edicius 3,269 Report post Posted October 31, 2010 I...don't even see a penalty there. Of course, if I said I was surprised that the refs are blowing calls like this, I'd be lying.

dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) People are going to start to embellish this s*** as well, just like some "high sticking" cases. A rule that was meant to help out will get taken advantage of by the divers of the league. Edited November 1, 2010 by dragonballgtz
Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) This just pisses me off to no end and it's going to get worse I'm afraid. Wow what a blown call Edited November 1, 2010 by Hockeymom1960

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 Yikes.... That would have been outrageous even if it was only a 2 min minor. But another 5 and a game? They HAVE to make game misconducts reviewable, or even only callable by the booth. I don't have an easy answer, but that is just absurd. There is just way too much discretion put in the hands of incompetent decision makers. NHL, please make the rules more black and white.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 That might be the worst call of the year... There's no way that it should even be 2 mins... Wake up NHL wake up

Wingzman91 134 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 Trent Hunter was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding Andrej Meszaros in center ice. Poster has you guys riled up. The facts and details are on the link. 5 and a game for Hunter. 2 was for DiPietro leaving the crease. So, ok, blown call, except they are cracking down on needless blindside hits. You watch the hit, not a Doan hit but the refs were not close and it was questionable with Meszaros down on the ice like that, im sure the league will recind the misconduct. You judge. Bad call, but also a bad time to make that hit, in the NHL. Game on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axDTF0CPRoc

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 the league needs to do something about players that turn their backs to checks... this should not have been a penalty and players are going to get hurt worse and worse if this trend continues like it has been... even the penalty on Franzen the other night on Smithson, should have Franzen given up the hit? probably, but it was Smithson's own fault for turning his back to the hit and he's lucky he didn't get seriously hurt, let alone hurt at all... take your licks like a man and get close to the boards (not ON the boards, but close) and turn INTO your check, even initiating contact when possible... you will be more protected and will also take less brunt of the hit due to the absorption of the initiation... this is how the game is SUPPOSE to be played... Ram 240 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 I don't understand why the NHL cannot rule on this after the fact the same way they rule after the fact on hits that do not get called but are then suspension worthy. Since this was such a terrible call, can't the league at least rule that it was a bad call and will correct it in the future?
