BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 That was a solid 60 minutes from the Red Wings. The Flames played desperate but Detroit still outworked them. The defensive effort was the best I've seen all season. They came out blazing from the start, something we rarely see on these western Canada road trips, and never let up. Even if they lose a game like that, I'd feel okay because they worked so hard. But they got a much-deserved win!
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Howard deserves a star of the game. they gave 2nd star to Kipper. Jimmy "only" stopped 16 shots...but they never take quality into account, just the numbers. It's OK. we know he deserved the star. Pasha with #1, Giordana with #3. Wings are lucky to get even one star (Flames media picked the stars, I guess?)
Namingway 146 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Very nice game. I hope we'll be seeing some more of this against the Oil on Friday! Also, I think if they didn't change up the third line, this game could've easily been a loss. Modano didn't seem as useless as he has, Cleary showed some extra grit and Abdelkader was great. Oh, not to mention that the 4th line was brilliant tonight. Solid game

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Kipper was on the ball tonight or the score might have gotten out of hand. Wings definitely drove the bus tonight. Tough to complain, but the PP remains subpar. It would've made their lives easier to get even one more goal tonight. But a W is most certainly still a W. daniel1 32 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) Can you say depth when you're winning games with goals from Modano and Abdelkader? Its great to get good production out of the 3rd line. Anyone think Hudler gets back in anytime soon? I don't see how you replace Abby with Huds right now when Abby brings a lot more to the table every night than Hudler does. Abby has the same number of goals now as Huds does... and Abby actually know how to bodycheck. I'd love to see us turn Huds overpriced salary into someone that can actually help the team. What do you think the trade value for him would be? Even if we can get back a low cost "depth" defensman that we can either sit or send down then use the Hulder money and wait until the trade deadline to acquire a high-priced soon to be free agent scorer for the playoff push. Abby can do what Huds can do and do it at about a third the salary of the "defector". *Edit* My mistake! Abby now has 100% more goals than the Defector lol I actually thought Huds potted one earlier in the year, but sadly, no. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 So many positives... Cleary, Helm, Datsyuk, Howard, Lidstrom, Stuart, Abdelkader, on and on. I'm glad Modano got another one, hopefully he can keep it going. At this rate he's on pace for 8 goals!
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 It was a win but not a convincing win. At times we had a few bad passes and turnovers which lead to Calgary scoring chances but thank god Jimmy played good tonight along with some good defensive work at times. I think he specifically mentioned Edmonton. He doesn't want Modano playing a back-to-back. Modano scored a goal, now it's time for Hudler to make his case, as that final spot seems to be between these two.

Yak19 303 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Abdelkader ignited the 3rd line tonight, he's not going anywhere, he had one solid chance to score and he did, he set up Cleary for a sure goal if he put it up. Its Modano or Hudler
hockey23 79 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 How bout some love for Big E. He made some nice breakout passes and looked pretty solid. Definitely an upgrade over Janik.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Its Modano or Hudler I say scratch Miller. Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Franzen Filppula Bertuzzi Cleary Modano Abdelkader Hudler Helm Eaves
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Mo will play Friday, per Babcock. Why mess with that line?

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 I say scratch Miller. Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Franzen Filppula Bertuzzi Cleary Modano Abdelkader Hudler Helm Eaves Love having Miller on the team, and wish he could be rewarded for his hard work, but that doesn't look too shabby. daniel1 32 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 I say scratch Miller. Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Franzen Filppula Bertuzzi Cleary Modano Abdelkader Hudler Helm Eaves I like your thinking but Huds can't play defense to save his life and that would take away one of our better penalty killers. With the "hands", or lack thereof that Clears is showing it would be a sick 4th line if we put him down with Helmer and Eaves. Clears is all heart and hustle but I swear he closes his eyes when he shoots the puck on net lol. If we could get a proven high priced scorer near playoff time that would make the Abby/Modo/*Scorer* line really sick and free up Huds salary to address our needs through free agency over the summer. I don't think Babs will sit Modo, even if he does go cold as Modo is Babs 1st choice on the point opposite Kronner on the 2nd PP unit and is a great option to have for a third line center... and he's relatively cheap too. It would really take some of the pressure off of Z, Dats, and Franzen if we could another 30 to 40 goal scorer at the deadline from a team that knows they won't be able to re-sign him. Just checked and the FA's of interest this summer: Justin Williams Brooks Laich Teemu Selanne Steve Sullivan Andrew Brunette Erik Cole Cory Stillman Alexander Semin Alexander Frolov Brooks Laich is on the last year of 2mil/yr deal. He's 6'2" 210lbs, plays physical, can be a net presence, scored 25 goals last year and will be looking for a deal in the 3-4m/yr range, which I don't think the Caps can afford and still re-sign Semin who will want considerably more. Hopefully the Caps will try to get something for him rather than lose him to FA for nothing. He would look pretty darn good on our third line!
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 I like your thinking but Huds can't play defense to save his life and that would take away one of our better penalty killers So you mean that would leave us with just Helm, Eaves, Filppula, Cleary, Franzen, Abdelkader, Zetterberg and Datsyuk who can kill penalties? Theophany 110 Report post Posted November 4, 2010 Agree. Ericsson looked good, Kindl not so much. esteef I thought Kindl looked pretty solid as well. Ericsson surprised me. Other than a couple "OMG WTF ARE YOU DOING" passes, he played pretty well. Not well enough to be on the top pair, but I'm shocked I'm not begging for Janik to be back in the lineup.
