e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) According to recent reports Nabokov will not report to Islanders, going against what his agent stated earlier in week. Can't say I blame him for it. He wanted to play for us. Maybe he still will. Edited January 22, 2011 by e_prime
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 And now the Islanders will waive him, causing him to fall from team to team, not reporting to any until he lands in the hands of the Wings. Just as planned! That might take a while.
WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 He would have to go through all the teams again with who ever put in a claim the first time getting first shot. If no other team put a claim in for him the first time, the Wings will have first dibs at reclaiming him! If someone else put in a claim for him, they will get first shot before the Wings. That was the way I was understanding the whole situation. That's why it was though earlier that NJD would pick him up and just rewaive him so the Wings could have them. Hockeytown_Ryan 119 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 why? what did Ken lose in the deal? We could have gotten a great player for nothing.... NOTHING. Its just the process and dealing and negotiating, then KNOWING this would never ever make it past the 1st 4-5 teams... Why do it? I understand that he was just trying something... but jeez... would you step into a fire just to see if you would get burned..? or hope you wouldn't? just a analogy..... Not really. You got your hopes up way too high most likely. A unique opportunity to get a world class goalie at dirt cheap.... Who cares if we didn't??? He is paid a ton to be the GM of the greatest hockey franchise in the world. We can scratch our heads all we want but we move on. I did not get my hopes up high... I had been saying all along that he would not be a Wing.... Just a waste of time and effort to let it go to a s*** team like NY. I am not questioning what Holland has ever done..that is insane. I am well with in my right to wonder what was going through his head to think that a World Class Goalie (as you put it) would make it to us for (lets face it) a cup of coffee. That's all I am trying to say He has been in this business for a long time.... He knew the outcome before the process started.

Wingzman91 134 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 lmao, so here we go again? I doubt it, at that cap hit, they will keep him because he can only go to a better team that he may play for and then help beat NYI. The cap hit is too low, Nabby is a Islander this year. Let next year's speculation begin! Howard-Nabokov - 2011-12 Vezina Trophy winners!!
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 A team that wanted to keep him away from Detroit could just claim him, suspend him for not reporting... and leave it at that, still keeping Detroit from getting him... Wonder whats gonna happen

WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 You anger me Your first paragraph is right. So with that logic how can the final sentence be right haha sorry. I worded that wrong. I remember everyone speculating that the NJD would pick him up and rewaive him so he could report to the Wings. So if the Isles waive him and no one else put in a claim in the 1st time, Wings get first claiming rights. If that clears that up at all.

CenterIce 83 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Looks like Sharks may have put in claim, too. So, if Isles place Nabokov on waivers, Sharks would be among first to get a crack at him.

Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Now all the Islander fans are calling Nabokov stupid not to report. Man, I don't think I would either in that position. To go to ISLANDERS because of some stupid waiver rule right after I negotiated a contract with a contender team.

Not a snowflake's chance in hell he reports to SJ; they've made it very clear just how much they value him.

Just saying more teams get a quicker shot than Wings. If someone picks him up and suspends him, no one else could get a chance.

Selliria 76 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) This was funny. If they suspend him, I'm sure he'd file a grievance with the NHLPA and the only outcome would be to be waived.

WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Wouldn't it be logical for the other NHL teams to look at this and realize that he doesn't want to play anywhere else but Hockeytown and realize that he won't play there and just let him come to Detroit!
