GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Red Wings on Thursday recalled defenseman Doug Janik from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Janik, 30, makes his second trip to Detroit this season after logging a seven-game stint in late-October when he went scoreless with seven penalty minutes, eight shots, a minus-two rating and an average ice time of 13:13.

A 10-year veteran and alternate captain of the Griffins, Janik shows 17 points (4-13—17), 55 PIM and ranks sixth on the team with a plus-6 rating through 46 games with Grand Rapids.

Janik will be available for action Friday night when the Red Wings host the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Not sure what this means.. maybe Raf is gonna be out longer than expected?

I'll just repeat myself because this is already in another thread but...

I guess this means Stuie's not good to go for Friday or Kindl is being sat and Salei's wife is finally having their child. Any of these could work, it just depends if Raf is coming back.

Janik is iffy whenever he gets called up. Will we see rock solid Janik playing it safe and doing a good job out there or idiot Janik who makes 10000 mistakes a game and looks like he has never played professional hockey before? If anything he can still be a physical presence.

Any of these options or possible or this could also be Kenny sending a message saying you defenceman pull up your trousers and start playing or we'll put Janik in the lineup.

Oh well, maybe we'll get to see a fight or 2 while hes up. Hopefully he is playing his solid stay at home style and not messing up too much

I like Janik, so I am glad that he gets to play. I hope he has a good game and its not like our defense could play any worse with him in the line up.

Please don't say that. Anything is possible with this group of defensemen. <_<

why not smith! :hehe:

Because Smith's defensive skills make Lebda look like Lidstrom. Smith is not very good defensively right now.

I'm guessing this means Stewart's ankle is worse than expected. They probably want to be as careful as possible with it so he's healthy in April.

Man, oh man. Drake, I expect so much more from you.

Hopefully it means Rafalski is ready to come back and Erikson can sit down for a while instead of turning the puck over every shift.

It blows my mind the amount of incorrect spelling of player's names in this forum. You're better than that!
