I do too, but reality is, it will only get worse once we are in AZ.

Refs have orders from Bettman and Co. to extend series' as long as possible and to throw games to the teams that are less skilled and would by all accounts be swept, or nearly swept, but will now go to 7 game matches, by orders of Lord Gary. (bet we won't see any sweeps this year too, wonder why?)

Business as usual...

That's the feeling I have too!

Datsyuk amazes me every game. Plus it was great to see the Mule get back out there and be effective.

Let's go pretty much end this series except for the pleasantries with a win in game 3. :siren:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I really enjoyed the NBC broadcast without Pierre McGuire. He's on the Philly-Sabres game right now. I really hope he does Eastern games this playoffs and stays far away from Detroit.

One of the best games I have ever seen from one player.

On the down side, Ericsson had one of the worst games I have ever seen him play. He didn't have many turnovers, but there were 6-7 times were he did not get the puck deep. Likewise, Howie had a sub-par game.

It's just like last year. We will win every game if we take no more than 2-3 penalties. PHX can NOT score on us 5v5 or 4v4. They will get 90% of their goals on the PP.

My thoughts from this game:

Pavel is one sick m-f'er

Doan is a douchebag for hitting Franzen when he knew he was already falling...he saw Franzen falling all the way.

Franzen will look like:

By the end of the playoffs.

The refs, even though they actually called part of the game correctly, let a team that had NO REALISTIC CHANCE OF WINNING THE GAME back into the game...refs SHOULD NOT TRY CREATE PARITY IN THE LEAGUE....that's just total bulls***.

I want the PK from game 1 back.

Defensemen TOI

Game 1

Stuart - 23:25

Kronwall - 21:21

Rafalski - 20:16

Ericsson - 19:18

Lidstrom - 19:16

Salei - 16:29

Game 2

Rafalski - 22:17

Kronwall - 21:52

Stuart - 21:24

Ericsson - 21:23

Lidstrom - 19:16

Salei - 13:48

Is it odd to anyone else that #5 ranks, well, #5 among defensemen TOI in both Game 1 and 2?

From a Yotes board after Franzen was injured.

PHX FireBirds18: Franzen demonstrating how active the boards are at the Joe...
Swat Ultra*** Hockey! ***: gota stay on your skates.
Muppet: He's faking it.

There was an awful lot of discussion about the refs favoring Detroit.

I noticed that too. I know Nick's getting up there in years, but it's still surprising. Maybe he was taking a lot fewer shifts when the Wings were up by a few goals?

I was surprised how few minutes Salei played. He had an okay game overall, but also a couple inexplicable moves, like not taking one more stride to gain center ice before firing the puck in the Coyotes zone, instead handing the Wings an icing late in the game. Someone who's been in the league as long as he has should know better.

Maybe Babs is just really confident in the Wings chances and is saving Nick for a long playoff run. :D

He's a bum. Trade him!

In all seriousness, he mostly plays the PP while playing only 29 seconds on the PK for both games. If you're not playing the PK and aren't needed at even strength because you are completely and utterly dominating the other team, then the best players are going to be rested, especially if they are old.

I guess it would just be Babcock being frugal with his ice time. Maybe that says something about his opinion of the Yotes offensive prowess. :P

Also, Datsyuk weighs in on his between the legs move:

"I am maybe trying to do too much. It was a stupid thing. It worked, though," Datsyuk said. "I go one-on-one, sometimes I like to use it sometimes between the legs. Maybe next time, I try more easy way to score."

I thought about it so more. He had a two minute penalty in Game 1. So there's some time right there.

If Stuart and Kronner get off the ice during that 5 on 3 in today's game, he gets some more ice time there too maybe. Although Nick got 0 SH TOI...

Weird.

Why is Abby playing on the 2nd line instead of Helm?

Helm had a great finish to the season and is now being bogged down by playing with Draper and Eaves on the 4th line. I don't think Abby is a better 2nd line center than Helm.

Our powerplay has been great and the top line has been good, but I'd juggle some of the other players around.

Very weird. Ericsson, who also kills penalties, had almost no time on the PK. But Stu and Kronner had massive PK time, partly from the 5 on 3.

Just finished watching the 3rd period and I have to say, I couldn't disagree with the majority more about the 5 on 3. Franzen clearly cross-checked the phoenix player and Helm interfered with Hanzal.

Don't tell me this board wouldn't be blowing up if that happened to us and the refs didn't call the coyotes on it. The refs weren't perfect as always, but those were two easy calls to make.

Blinders, people, it's not hard to take them off.

I truly think that Babs is just resting Nick for when it matters in the playoffs... especially cuz Phoenix is trying to hit to hurt and we do NOT need further injuries... Also, we had a 4-0 lead today and it was 4-1 for quite some time which is where a lot of rest came into play for Nick. He started playing more after it got 4-3. It is an interesting move by Babs tho as he usually does not "plan ahead" like that. I like this move tho because if Phoenix is unable to beat teh Wings without Hank (and Franzen for when all 4 goals were scored)there is no way they will beat a fully loaded wings team so Nick may as well rest for the later rounds.

The Franzen one I'll give you, but Helm has as much right to the ice as the other guy. Just because Usain Bolt is the fastest runner in the world, you shouldn't penalize him for being fast and making him start ten yards further from the end. Just cause Helm is fast and can get to a spot quicker, don't penalize him for doing so. It's no surprise the Coyotes got 6 or 7 straight PPs to end this game.

I think the majority of the posters just want consistency. Penalties are penalties no matter the score or time of the game.
