Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 I think Nashville has a good chance as they would take Atlantas place in the Southeast, and Detroit would pick up a new Division opponent. I hope though that we go east... Come on Bettman take care of the founders of this league... lol

It GD better NOT be Columbus!!!! That would be just what the Evil Dr. Bettman would do to screw the Wings! This is OUR ONLY chance to move east, when is the next team gonna go west? Probably NEVER! Via Twitter May 16th TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie I'm of opinion that IF realignment is required, DET won't move to East, at least not in short term, maybe ever. West teams like DET in West. Just sayin'

Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 20, 2011 TSN says that NHL sources are refuting it. I read this as meaning that no deal is done.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 I doubt the Wings will move East. I don't think they'd leave Chicago as the only original 6 team in the west.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Bob McKenzie just mentioned this on TSN and said the deal isn't done and Bettman has no plans in the next few days to announce anything or go to Winnipeg. For whatever it's worth. I'm hopeful the deal is done. As for which team might go out East, for the first season I think Winnipeg stays out East if this is confirmed, then perhaps Columbus moves out East. Guest 13GoWings40 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Wow, I can't believe how fast this all seemed to develop, i know the article said negotiations had been taking place for months but I only really heard of this in the last couple weeks. Anyways, great news for all the loyal hockey fans in Winnipeg who never gave up hope. I really hope this lets the Wings move east, but this is Bettman's NHL after all... Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Atlanta Journal-Constitution: (this was posted about 25 minutes ago) http://www.ajc.com/sports/bettman-no-deal-to-951877.html Bettman: No deal to move Thrashers so farThe future of the Thrashers was a hot topic on NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's weekly radio show Thursday night. Bettman said no deal has been made to move the Thrashers to Winnipeg -– and criticized reports of a possible move -- but he did not rule out relocation unless someone steps forward to own the team here. "We get reports, speculation, that the team's gone. And there's no deal," Bettman said. "I can tell you that with certainty that there is no deal for this team to move. Am I predicting that there will never be or that there won't be at some point in time? No, I'm not saying there is or there isn't."
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Nashville will likely move to the Southeast. Minnesota will move to the Central. Winnipeg will move to the Northwest. As I've stated before, the Wings are the only team in the West that guarantees ratings. The league will not be benefited by this move, even though us fans would love it. LeftWinger 4,972 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) If Bettman moves ANY other team than Detroit east, he better NEVER set foot in Michigan again! He wouldn't make it back out! (alive at least) Moving Nashville to the East is as about as stupid as keeping Detroit in the West.... But since the NHL is run by idiots, I wouldn't be surprised if the moved The Kings to the East.... GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 So this will be the second time hockey doesn't work in Atlanta. That's what happens when you move to one of the worst sports towns in the US.

As I've stated before, the Wings are the only team in the West that guarantees ratings. The league will not be benefited by this move, even though us fans would love it. isn't that what the Hawks are for now? According to most if not ALL sports outlets, Chicago is a bigger hockey town than Hockeytown...Hell they have Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, Seabrook, Campbell, Sharp...Those are the NHL household names now-a-days, they all show them on the NHL network, I never see Datsyuk or Zetterberg or Helm on a commercial, so Chicago must be the team of the Western Conference, right? So this will be the second time hockey doesn't work in Atlanta. That's what happens when you move to one of the worst sports towns in the US. but...but...but...the Braves are America's Team! GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 So if the Wings do move, which division do we move to? Can't be the Southeast. No matter who moves there, only 3 teams will actually be located near the Southeast. Remember, Washington is already there and are hardly located in the Southeast geographically. McAwesome 754 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) If Atlanta moves west, and Detroit moves east, then someone is going to be moved into a division that doesn't make a lot of sense geographically. Florida, Tampa, Carolina, Washington, Philly? Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Boston, Montreal? Detroit, Toronto, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Ottawa? That might work, but as many have already said, the rest of the western teams count on the extra money when the Wings come to town, so if the move does end up happening, it would probably be Nashville moving to the Southeast, Minnesota moving to the Central, and Winnipeg moving to the Northeast. What we really need is to move 2 teams from east to west (Panthers to Seattle anyone?) so that Detroit and Columbus can both move east (preferably with the BJs moving to Quebec), thereby ensuring that all teams in the Eastern time zone are in the Eastern conference. But I digress... Edited May 20, 2011 by McAwesome

Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 I could see them keeping Winnipeg in the east but not long term. I also don't think they would move Nashville. Why move a Central timezone team instead of one of the eastern timezone teams...
