evilzyme 769 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 Holland said the club hasn't relinquished hope that forward Todd Bertuzzi can return this season. Severe back pain has kept him off the ice since Feb. 1. He is riding the stationary bike. “A week-to-10 days ago the back wasn't feeling so good. On Friday, there was optimism again,'' Holland said. “Let's give it another week-to-10 days (before exploring other options).'' 1 hillbillywingsfan reacted to this

The Greek 323 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Before exploring other options huh..... amnesty anyone? No, he's not that expensive. If he never plays again then he'll languish on ir until his term expires. Save the amnesty talk for Sammy. Edited March 12, 2013 by The Greek
LeftWinger 4,973 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 No, he's not that expensive. If he never plays again then he'll languish on ir until his term expires. Save the amnesty talk for Sammy. I kinda like this idea....bury Bert on the IR for the next season, buyout Sammy and Colaiacovo... Nice!
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 we get 2 amnesty buyouts over the next 2 seasons. I agree that at least one should be a forward.
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 he can't retire, we would be on the hook for his cap hit since he signed a 35+ contract. see chris pronger for example.
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 How does long-term injury reserve work in a situation as this? Can the Wings get any cap space relief? Ya if he stays on IR we don't have his cap hit affecting us 1 F.Michael reacted to this
13dangledangle 965 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 Two years ago, you would have been throwing bags of shat at Kenny, because Z was nursing a bad back all season long. My analogy smells of roses. "I know you'd like to thank your s*** don't stank, but lean a little bit closer See that roses really smell like poo-oo-ooo, Yeah, roses really smell like poo-oo-ooo" Outkast. Euro_Twins 4,480 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 Two years ago, you would have been throwing bags of shat at Kenny, because Z was nursing a bad back all season long. My analogy smells of roses. While I would love to see bert healthy again, you have to admit it is a completely different situation, Zetterberg has missed 22 games since 2007, he played through any injuries he had, and he also is a lot younger. Big Bert is 38 now, and his back is seemingly only getting worse, it is unfortunate but I doubt he will back this season
LeftWinger 4,973 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) Bert and Sammy are washed up now. Thank Goodness that with this being a half of year of play, it still counts as a full year off their contracts. Bet should be buried on the LTIR and Sammy should get bought out next year. Add Colaiacovo to that buyout and we can have enough roster spots to start this rebuild right away and not have to wait until 2015... rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 Will he be ready for the game next year at Commerica Park? Are you referring to the old-timers/alumni game? If so, that's pretty funny.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Just an update. And not a good one. Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 29m After skating for several days, Bertuzzi said he's making no progress. Back problem saps strength from left leg. Can't push off. Frustrated
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Think Bertuzzi is done personally. Not sure how a back problem that lasts this long can ever recover enough to play such a demanding sport. Shame. When he was at his best he was a force.
kipwinger 8,557 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 This is a real bummer. I don't care what anybody around here says, his size, strength and hands, make him valuable to this team. I'm still holding out hope that Bert makes is back this season. 3 sjr2012, zetterbrunner and Nev reacted to this
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 That really sucks to hear. Have to wonder if it's time to hang them up rather than doing more damage. It will be a shame not to see #44 out there. Fingers crossed he can return next year
Guest irishock Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Bert is a good locker room guy and will be a valuable 4th liner next season. I say don't buy him out.
