Kindl has a good plus/minus and scores way more points.

Smith does nothing. He's somewhat physical, but only compared to our other guys. That's not saying much. Occasionally he fights and makes me feel funny inside.

I'd keep Kindl so far.

I'd sit Kindl and reduce Smith minutes down to what Kindl has been playing.

Ugly game in the end but we needed the win and got it.

Good to see Brunner score a nice one. Nyquist set it up beautifully and was great all game.

It's painful to see the personnel decisions this season. We'll see what happens, if anything, before the deadline. It's pretty clear to me this team is not better with White on D. Coliacovo doesn't impress a whole lot either. I'm hoping Dekeyeser can at the very least make solid hockey plays, keep it simple and clear the zone etc. He doesn't have to tear the league apart. Him and Lashoff could make our D atleast bearable. Then maybe we can either pick someone up as a top 6 winger, or atleast bring up Tatar.

COliacovo's first game back. Judge him later

You just don't like soft Euros. :tounge2:

you're kind of right, at least about the soft part. I'd probably be more forgiving of Kindl's screwups if he were knocking guys around out there instead of bailing out of hits.

He and Franzen are about the smallest playing 6'3" 215+ lb guys you'll find in the NHL.

Can't take the credit for this, but here's the Tootoo incident Gif. Comes from @redwingsfeed on Twitter, I think.

the replay they showed during the game you could see him smiling as he popped back up from the bench after going in headfirst.

Really, you'd sit the guy who's at least playing well in transition and putting up points for the guy who's done jack s*** all season, just because one is better about taking hits? Smith doesn't score as well as Kindl, hell he doesn't even score as well as Lashoff this season, and he's been horrible defensively. Worse than the other two by a long shot.

He's going to be good one day. But he's having a lot of growing pains this season. Probably because actually playing defense has always been a bit of a after thought for him.

playing well in transition? were you watching tonight?

Smith plays the PP, PK, and plays more minutes than Kindl. Kindl gets the easy minutes as a #6 guy and has been good on the PP.

so yes, my suggestion was that if you are going to sit someone, don't stunt the rookie's development just let him play fewer minutes. Smith has higher potential than Kindl, even though Kindl is finally looking like he's capable of holding a #6 spot.

one game? How he made the nhl is beyond me... One of the worst in leavue

You aren't serious are you? Kindl has been one of our better defenseman.

Had a bad game tonight, but he's miles ahead of Smith and Kronwall defensively.

I strongly disagree

Kronwall has struggled in taking on the #1 spot, but there's no way Kindl is better than him defensively.

Kronwall is asked to do a ton more than Kindl on a nightly basis facing the top competition. The last couple games notwithstanding, Kindl has looked good as a bottom pairing guy. If Kindl played Kronwalls' shifts night after a night, it would be a disaster.

Sarcasm is hard to deliver my bad haha

Kronwall has been really disappointing for me, but yea he's better than Kindl no doubt.

I do think Kindl has been impressive though

It's one game. Granted, Kindl had a bad game tonight, but not any worse than Smith to be honest.

As for the rest...

Smith averages 18:40 ice time per game, Kindl 17:54, which is the difference of one shift. Both play on the 2nd PP where Kindl has noticeably outplayed Smith. Neither saw significant PK time until Quincey got hurt, as Quincey, Kronwall, and Ericsson are the primary penalty killing defensemen, so it's not like Smith has been carrying the load there. Even then Smith only has 1 minute of PK time during Quincey's absence.

So with the exception of one minute of PK time, they play pretty much exactly the same amount of minutes and Kindl leads Smith in every single statistical category.

I understand not really liking particular players, but it's hard to conclude that Smith should play while Kindl sits.

However, they're both better than White or Cola, which I think we can both agree on.

Cola out played them both tonight. He was sound and seemed to move the puck out of his own end with some nice passes...something that lacks at times with this team. Smith and Kindl are young and are going to make mistakes like we have been seeing lately. I wish the Wings could have got Regehr. He could have been a good partner for a young d-man.

ive been saying smith is unimpressive for weeks. took a give away to a goal for you guys to realize it?

he was supposed to be a huge boost on the blue line, hes been like i said unimpressive in both ends. his outlet passes are ******* ugly and most of them lead to turn overs. if its not a pass its just a flip to the other team

i also agree with others kindl looks a lot better then smith. he takes the time and makes smarter passes

anyway gus looked good tonight he held the puck real good set up brunner which was beautiful. brunner looked very thankful haha hopefully it takes a little bit of pressure off him

i really hope we see dekeyser thursday
