MasterPavel 115 Report post Posted March 11, 2014 If he is coming up to the wings, it will be to watch games. He won't be playing in them. He has a rather large learning curve ahead of him. I would rather see them take their time rather than try to rush him and destroy his confidence. That's not the Red Wings way. If they feel he isn't ready they won't play him. However there are those special players out there that can transition immediately.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 11, 2014 That's true but the Wings haven't had a prospect like Mantha since Datsyuk and Zetterberg, both of whom made the jump straight to the NHL. I'm not sure if their respective leagues were equivalent to the juniors or not, but it's entirely possible that Mantha might be an exception Holland is willing to make. DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 Could he be much worse than Bertuzzi? At least he can skate.

But we like our team right now, so just sit in the press box and kick tires instead of playing hockey...ok?" - Kenneth Holland
Richdg 267 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 He may play. With the way our guys are dropping like flies....... Abby and Sheahan both played a game or 2 after their college seasons ended.

DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 These are his stats after tonight's game. He could finish the season a goal per game. 56+62 = 118 points in 56 games

number9 3,297 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 I know Maltby scored 50 goals in the CHL. But a goal a game is something to be excited about

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 I wonder If Holland is still considering calling him up this season. Not that we need him, but if we lock up a playoff spot it might be a good idea to let him play the last game. Then again, our team is finally developing great chemistry. Unless he walks into Grand Rapids and scores a hat trick in his first 3 games Id say you have a better chance of winning the lottery than seeing him with the Wings. Remember hes been playing against kids. Lets see how he does against men in the AHL. 1 Rick D reacted to this
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 There was a rumor going around that he was to go to the Wings, not the Griffin, once his season was done. Coming from Fischer. But it wasn't very specific, so we dont know, if true, if that meant he was going to watch, soak in the atmosphere, or play. Why come up here when he could play with GR and get playoff experience there? It just seemed strange. But if ever the Wings would take a chance on someone it's this season and the player would be Mantha. 1 wingsfan4795 reacted to this

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 I say don't skip steps with him. Let him transition and learn how to carry the mail and be The Guy at the next level, the ah, like he's been doing in the Q. Confidence is a strange thing, often times when it's lost it's never regained, that's why sports psychology is such a huge industry now.
