Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

We had a desperate need for a solid proven two way nhl center and a leader for all these kids that we have in the lineup. Now we don't. We seem to be keeping our picks so we can easily replace Jarnkrok, and we are super deep at C for the next 5 years anyways. Why is this so hard to understand?

It's not legwand who's gonna help us get in and it's not his leadership that got nyquist and Tatar going .... Despite all of our disagreements here it think everyone here can agree on the fact if not for the kids we have no chance of getting into the playoffs

As for being super deep at center despite injuries or not weiss has been a bust last 2 years that's a fact ... He'd better wake up next season for our sakes .... Legwands 34 ... Zetterberg gonna be 34 and datsyuk 35'and the last 2 have suffered injuries last few seasons so not like there always healthy so we can't count on them playing 82 games a season every year

Where's the next center to come up and take over? Everyone's getting older .... I know you'll say we can s

Draft some but as we all know it's not easy to say well draft them and they'll be nhl players

He's 22, and he wanted lots of minutes without earning it. We need team players, not egos.

We need good players .

And seriously, where on earth was he going to play? with what ice time? Couldn't have seen him get more than 7-8 minutes a night. I doubt he'd have 5 points in 6 games with half the amount of ice time

We had a ton of injuries ... He could of played with nyquist and Franzen at one point .... Tatar jarnkrok nyquist could of been another line ... Alfredsson was on the third line for some time he could of plays with him ....would of been easy to find him spots lots of guys here he played with in Grand Rapids

This thread already induces headaches. That sentence does not help... :sleepy:

I'm replying to a bunch of people im getting headaches as well! Cut me some slack! Lmao .... At least you can say I'm not a sheep and stick to what I believe lol give me that

Anyways meant to say if we were gonna make a blockbuster deal for a defensemen now that jarnkrok is gone we're gonna have to lose an extra prospect than we would of needed to ifwe make the deal

Instead of say for example jarnkrok a first and pulkkinen athanisiou for whoever now we're gonna have to add say a Tatar instead and jarnkrok is gone as well ( not saying well trade Tatar just tryin to make an example )

Anyways I'm going workout lol break time f*** lol

Are we just rounded up ages on everyone over 30 now?

No idea what that means ....talking about the centers? Edited by nyqvististhefuture

Sheahan is 22, Helm is 27, Andersson is 25, Nyquist has played C, he's 24. Glendening is 24. Nestrasil is coming on at GR, he's 23. Janmark was drafted last year and he's further along than most 2013 drafts because he's played in Sweden's elite league and he's 21. Athanasiou has played C before, he's 19. We have young centers in the system.

This so called 'blockbuster trade' for defenseman. 1) not going to happen. 2) the guys that are 'available' because the market is so thin will only be acquired by giving an arm and a leg. I'm sorry, but we've got Almquist, Marchenko, Sproul and possibly Ouellet who could step in next year. With continued improvement from DeKeyser and hopefully Smith, I think we'll be fine on the back end. Feel free to disagree with me though.

The fact that Jarnkrok was highly rated means nothing. Here are a couple older RWC prospect rankings.

Abdelkader, Leino, McCollum, Kindl, Smith top 5.

Howard, Kindl, Abdelkader, Emmerton, Smith top 5.

The Leggy pass on the Nyquist Tampa goal is nothing to discount: he got the puck, turned with a stride and a half and hit a speeding Nyquist exactly where he needed it, all in an instant. Exactly the kind of pass our young D often struggles with.

While it may not be a difficult pass to make, it is an easy pass to screw up.

I can think of three roster spots they could have tried him in for at least a few games:

1. Luke Glendending, has a total of ZERO goals in 49 games... on pace for longest goalest streak in Wings history

2. Andersson - with 17 pts in 63 games and a -11, he's not really tearing it up

3. Anywhere else, we've had enough injuries, our 4th line has been a revolving whorehouse of players, Miller, Bertuzzi, Emmerton...anyone can sit.

again, just sayin, there were options to at least look under the hood in some NHL games, look at all the other kids that got called up this year and were sent back down...

I like Jarnkrok too, but he's certainly not going to draw the same assignments Glenny has been handling.

The problem is that Järnkrok is a very offensive minded center, he'd have to be given a decent amount of ice time and with good players or he won't be effective. He's certainly not the type of defensively responsible centre that Babcock loves and also he's tiny, we need size.

He's also not a great PKer like Sheahan and Glendening.

If you're counting on Jarnkrok to shadow Crosby you're going to get destroyed, that's why he isn't even considered for Miller, or Glendening's roles.

He could play in Andersson's spot that he's currently occupying, but at the time Calle was traded, Andersson was on the checking line which is the absolute worst place for Jarnkrok to play.

Emmerton wasn't even in the NHL at the time of the trade, he was only called up because another center went down. Had Jarnkrok not threatened to go back to Sweden necessitating the trade he would have got his NHL shot with the Wings right then.

And before anyone claims that the idea of him going back to Sweden was made up, he admitted it himself to Swedish media.

That's precisely it. He would wind up being like Pulkkinen. Someone who brings a lot offensively possibly to the table, but unless he gets the minutes, isn't going to do anything. And we know Babs like to make guys earn it first, especially rookies.

As for Glendening, he's not in the lineup to score goals. He's been tremendous in a shutdown role.

While Andersson isn't exactly tearing it up, he's good defensively and excellent on face-offs.

But yea, I thought, with the truckload of injuries we've had, that they would have slot him in somewhere. Just wasn't meant to be i guess.

You have absolutely zero evidence of this statement and it has been denied by everyone involved.

I like Andersson... I don't think his +/- number this year is a reflection of his defensive ability. He's a big body and he seems to know how to use it around the net. With the added space between the cage and the boards...having a big center that can control the puck and shield off a defender while working behind the net is a huge advantage.

I see him possibly maturing into a 3rd...maybe 2nd line C with a floor as a very good 4th line C

There would have been reason's that we are not privy to as to why Jarnkrok was on offer, Legwand is a top C with over 1000 games under his belt. Kenny at that time didnt have a top c to call on and he had to make a move. Leggy waived his ntc to come here so i would say that the option of a further deal has already been agreed. He wouldnt have moved just for the end of the season, only to be off again. I have no problem with giving Legwand a 2 year deal, he's only 33 and once settled in and is comfortable with the systems he will be good for 40-50 pts, which he is on course now. Bigger question would be could he or Weiss play the wing?

My ideal for next year would be;

Franzen Zetterbeg Nyqvist

Legwand Datsyuk Weiss

Tatar Sheahan Jurco

Abdelkader Helm Glendening

Miller Andersson Alfredsson

Something has got to give if we re-up Alfie & Leggy and we want to keep up Jurco, Sheahan and Glendening.

With the defence needing an up grade, at fwd we could go with what we have, the surplus forwards could be

used in any deal Kenny wants to make to get that top D guy.

Ya thank god for all the injuries cause sheahan was projected to be a bottom 6 but he's proven he might have the potential to be a top 6 ... Always loved helm he's the type of guy you need in the playoffs .... Andersson and glendening are expendable , wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have a longterm future here

Nestrasil has had a not streak in the ahl but so did janrkrok so i won't get too excited about that just yet

Jarnkrok was also in the same position as janmark in the swedish elite league and I'm very hopeful he will be great but again who knows

Looks pretty clear to me nyquist is a lock to play wing now just like Franzen who once was a center as well and I don't hold much hope for athanasiou who had this great junior season in his last year of juniors

My whole point with all that is no future longterm lock at center in the top 6 under 25 except sheahan and thank god for that

cuz there's no game tonight

What no ones watching the Carolina Ottawa game? Monday night raw? How I met your mother finale? Lmao

I hope it never happens ... I don't wanna give up what we'd have to give up to get that defensemen ... I like all those d you mentioned

Of course not everyone pans out but would of liked jarnkrok to get trial before sending him packing

And wasn't leino playing in Finland ? Wasn't a prospect ....Howard's our number 1 and I like abdelkader he's the type of guy you need in the playoffs

From what I've ready everyone's always said how good a 2 way player he is and is defensively responsible... Might also be a reason he's up in Nashville and forsberg is still in milwaukee

Since I am Swedish and can read that article and the tone of it I can tell you that you are grossly misrepresenting what he actually said.

He said it wasn't going very well at for a while and there were thoughts about moving home but he also said that there was a big transition playing in the AHL and that every player wants to be in the NHL and it would feel weird to throw that away and move home after just one season.

Interestingly enough the quote from the headline isn't even in the original article, I assume it's an exaggeration just to get people to click the link for the article.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

The Wings aren't known for starting false rumors and there were reports for months leading up to the trade that he was unhappy in Grand Rapids.

Just how unhappy we'll never know, and while I don't believe the reports that he already had a deal in Sweden, I do believe if he had stayed in Grand Rapids and not gotten any NHL time he would have went home.
