number9 3,297 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 I wonder if Holland ever thinks to himself, "I guess I should have 'overpaid' for a good defenseman when I had the chance". Like, I don't expect him to ever come out and say it, but I wonder if he thinks it. If so, it was probably right around the time he was trying to trade assets for the very same Christian Erhoff that half this forum was screaming to sign three years ago. Ehrhoffs rights got traded around that year and he never hit FA. I doubt holland would ever trade for a players rights

I doubt holland would ever trade for a players rights Erhoffs rights were traded to the Islanders, whom he didn't sign with, before he hit the market and signed with Buffalo in FA. If I remember correctly. Edit: And I didn't remember correctly because his rights were traded twice that year, first to the Island and then to Buffalo. So your point is valid and mine was wrong. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 The thing I like about the Blues is they never had welfare picks handing them Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane, etc. Sure they've had high picks (ironically they one 1st was Eric Johnson) but I never get sick to my stomach thinking about them the way I do Chicago and Pittsburgh. They both got s***-ass lucky and sucked at just the right time to land elite generational talent. Hell, look at Edmonton. If they had been this bad from 2004-2006 they would have had Crosby and Ovechkin. Instead, they got Hall and the Nuge. Basically, I like St Louis because I don't think the league gifted them a team. That's a good point about the Blues. Honestly I'd probably like them more if Backes wasn't their captain.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 How do you not like Backes? He's got a lot of great qualities and I wouldn't mind having him on the Wings in the same way I would've taken Pronger on the Wings. But he's also a dirty player who runs around cheapshotting guys, especially when his team is losing. As long as he's in another team's sweater, I'm not going to go out of the way to root for the guy. rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 I've always loved Michalek, I think with his shot he'd do great with Pav. After this barf bag of a season, Holland's #1 MO above all else this summer should be to not sign any guys who have a reputation of being injury-prone. Guys like Michalek, Hemsky, Gaborik, and Markov (although amazingly, he's played 69 this year)

LOL They don't play him much though. Easier to stay healthy sitting in the press box. Even for him

Guys like Michalek, Hemsky, Gaborik, and Markov (although amazingly, he's played 69 this year) Tough to argue with that, but just because a player has never been injured doesn't mean he won't have a groin pull in training camp and miss the season. Such is our luck.

Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 I was just on capgeek.com and am I reading this right? Wings are going to have 20 million to spend coming this summer? New estimates put the cap at 68 than the original 71 projection. So that's 16m in space before signing RFAs Tatar, Sheahan, Dekeyser, Glendening, Almquist, Ferraro, Callahan (5-8m) and UFAs Legwand and Alfie(8-10m). It'll be closer to 5 mil after Holland resign: Quincey, Cleary, Bert, Sammy, Alife, and Legwand... God I wish I was joking but you know some of them will get resigned. *shakes head* 1 SimonSin reacted to this

NitzGuy 38 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 I really don't think any of those guys will be resigned in my opinion. I think they're all gone. I doubt it. I'd say cleary is back since I think he was given some Kenny promise for this years contract. Earlier in the season I'd say Bert would stay but now I'm not sure anymore since he's proven to be only useful with Z and D. Alfie is up to him, if he wants to stay Holland will sign him again. I think legwand will be back, kenny's recent trade won't be thrown away. I think Quincy is the only for sure to be gone unless he takes a huge decrease and Holland can't find anyone else. It's how I think Holland will think anyway. Not how I'd do it.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 Legwand and Alfie will return. No one else. Tata and Deke will be re-signed. I'm worried about Quincey though. Holland might be afraid of missing out on another D-man and re-sign him as insurance.

If Holland does sign Quincy (I don't doubt that he could) I think every true Wings fan owes it to Mr. and Mrs. I to storm the Joe and leave with Holland's head on a stick. 1 dirtydangles reacted to this

LeftWinger 4,964 Report post Posted March 18, 2014 the centers you'll have next season even with Z and D on the same line are Datsyuk, Weiss, Helm, Andersson, Sheahan, Glendening, Legwand. I do believe Legwand will resign with Detroit. Something has to change and someone (or two) has to go.
