Redwings 1926 47 Report post Posted April 5, 2015 For the rest of the evening, I'm a Maple Leafs fan. I hope they can pull of a win against Ottawa tonight, instead of give me another reason to hate them like they did against the Bruins.

GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted April 5, 2015 This team has regressed because its core has gotten old. That's what happens to every hockey team on the planet - Detroit fans are just too spoiled to recognize that it has to happen to them eventually, too. The best player on our team is on the wrong side of 35 and dealing with nagging injuries. Our captain is getting there and has even worse back problems. We're also down Franzen, as well as our two big guys (Cole/Abby). What part of "this team is in the middle of a rebuild" don't you understand? This team isn't supposed to make the playoffs, let alone contend for the Cup. It's only because of Babcock and our incredible farm system that we're even in the race at all. If you feel fine throwing that away, then fine. But there's a reason that Babcock would be the biggest FA in the NHL this off-season, and a reason you're not a GM. And thank god for that. Really? Why weren't we supposed to make the playoffs this season? Did I miss something? And thanking God for me not being GM is rather silly. I mean, how many people on an internet forum would have a chance to be GM?
nyqvististhefuture 1,002 Report post Posted April 5, 2015 Any chance we just shove erik cole on the ice regardless of his injury status next game?
Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted April 5, 2015 They definitely missed Abby. Someone who stands in front of the net, can take a beating, and actually knock the puck in. Homer? 1 haroldsnepsts reacted to this

GoWings! 179 Report post Posted April 5, 2015 Didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that missed 5 on 3 opportunity would prove to be the difference. I never thought a month ago I'd be saying now that we have a high likelihood of gagging the season away like the 2013 Maple Leafs did. Mrazek seems to allow at least one bad goal a game but once again the offense fails. And seriously where is Cole? Really hate trading for guys that disappear when you really need them. But then again it's not like he isn't injury prone either.
derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted April 6, 2015 Agreed. I guess I'm just not very confident in those two games being as easy as they should be on paper to win. The Wings look defeated and either gassed and/or injured as a group. Helm and Nyquist are the only players that looked like they had anything in the tank tonight. I don't think they looked gassed the second and third period tonight. They just had a very well coached quality team in front of them. That should be different with Carolina. Plus opposite to our usual games against bottom feeders I'm optimistic that we will be desperate enough to fight through these games if things don't go our way. Wings showed that kind of attitude the last two games. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this

Pat 44 Report post Posted April 6, 2015 Tatar has been a joke the last 20 games. He constantly looks nervous when making passes, turns it over, his shot is 10ft over the net or wide.

I noticed his positioning for shots was poor in the 3rd. There were a couple of plays where his teammates set him up well, but his stick and body were in poor positions for a shot. LeftWinger 5,130 Report post Posted April 6, 2015 We now sit in the final wild card spot, only 3 points ahead of Ottawa... This team showed so much promise this season. But it looks like, in the end, they are still continuing their downward spiral since 2009... Can't figure it out, but if they fall out of the playoffs, it will be the end most of us saw coming as this team struggled the past 3 years to even make the playoffs, now it looks as if they will miss them. I am not even sure going 2-1 the last three will help, unless Ottawa cools down...

JoeBFan 5 Report post Posted April 6, 2015 So the Caps strategy is to trap with 4 guys back and keep icing the puck? You'd think this was an offensively limited team who needs to hang on to any lead they get. I like to think that this is Trotz playing for every point he can get, even if he has to get them one at a time based on what the division is doing. Wings threw a lot of pucks at Holtby in the 3rd but he had his A game tonight. As a Caps fan since I moved here in '93 the Trotz hire was one of the most exciting things since the Ovie draft. About time we stop hiring coaches that either coached for us in the AHL or played for us.

We've barely won a few games out of our last 10 and Ottawa can't lose to the '84 Oilers and the '77 Canadiens right now.

derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted April 6, 2015 schedule easy? pitt at home, on the road with nyr and philly? not that easy. boston has 3 on the road too. we have by far the easiest out of the 4 teams battling for the 3 spots. Pens are slumping without their two best defensive players and Philly is already out of the playoff race. We had two tough back to back games against the still fighting Wild and red hot Capitals and have a strong Montreal team ahead. We don't have the easiest schedule, in fact the opposite is true.
