Barrie 900 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 We killed 7 penalties last night, Tatar and Nyquist don't kill penalties. I wouldn't worry to much about ice time, or worry to much about how badly we were out shot. I would think shot will be more even on Saturday. I agree with putting Cleary in there, he can play on the PP and kill penalties.
MrazekFanBoy 223 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 Why is everyone hating on Marchenko? He killed important penalties for us and I can't really recall him being the reason why Tampa scored a goal, we're playing the best offense in hockey right now and one of the best goal scorers in this generation be happy that they only scored two goals sip a beer and get ready for the next game. 3 canadian wings fan, jimmyemeryhunter and marcaractac reacted to this
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 The idea that we should say "No one played good at forward" does not excuse Tatar and Nyquist…That's crazy. It does however negate your suggestion that they should be the ones benched. 1 DatsyukianDekes reacted to this
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 i wasnt at all happy with Zetterbergs game. That was probably one of his worst playoffs games. If we split Z and D what worries me is Z's line could get stomped on. Do we just keep Z with Dats and hope he picks it up? He was floating around a lot last night. Tatar/Nyquist I didnt mind, they were playing against a tough line. Imo we need to have less penalties, more PP opportunities. 14 shots was pretty bad. rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 I would put Nyquist or Tatar with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. No reason why our three best defensive forwards should all play on the same line. Along with that, I like Helm, but he seems to be Datsyuk's conjoined twin. He shouldn't be leading all forwards in ice time. Don't put him on the top line. Except for that part where he retrieved a lost faceoff and fed the puck to Datsyuk leading to a filthy filthy snipe. That's precisely why Helm is on the top line. dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 We need Abby in and the lines get deeper. Z - Dats - Abby Nyquist - Sheahan - Tatar Weiss - Helm - Jurco Miller - Glendening - Andersson Any combination of these guys looks far better than what we had last game. I think Sheahan could be a force if we give him someone with bigger bodies than gus and tats. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 17, 2015 When Abby gets back, I'd split Z and D. Tatar and Nyquist don't really play well together, I know people like to reference them, but the real kid line was Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco last year. Outside of line combos, really what we need is two things. 1. Cut back on the dumb penalties. Plain and simple. How do we do that? 2. Take time with the puck, think, make good decisions. Turnovers have been KILLING us for over a month, gotta figure it out. Too often the Wings want to make some pretty ******* play when there up by a goal when just clearing it off the glass and out and getting a change is the right play. This is the playoffs, every single mistake could cost ya. Simplify it. 1 PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this

Idk, D and Z are too slow to not have a fast skater or at the very least a power forward on their line that can retrieve pucks. Tatar and Nyquist are neither as fast (as helm) nor can they help with upfront battles like Abby can. My only issue with Helm is he shud just be the fast skater and retrieve pucks instead of trying to get cute with the puck. I also thought that was one of the worst playoff games I've seen him play. Unfortunately he had some stinkers like that in the regular season too. We really need him to be a threat and our #2 punch after Pavel. He seems to have artists block or something. He goes around the net too much relying on his awesome puck protection skills or fires bad angle shots on net. That's it. I would love to see more creativity from him. Work the give and goes (sp?) sink into the quiet areas and get that good one timer off. I mean c'mon Z it works on my NHL 15! Lol.

There was that one odd man rush that was a result of Marchenko pinching, I believe it was the one where Mrazek made that really nice glove save (I could be wrong). On Sportsnet the announcers pointed it out, this would be my guess as to why. I only noticed it the one time, I didnt have a problem with having him in. jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted April 18, 2015 I thought marchenko was better than zidlicky. He always seems to take really bad penalties at the end of the game, granted, Mrazek going behind the net left him with very few options on the cross check, but his pinches were bad, and his assignments were oft left open. if he's not putting up points, hes our most worthless d man. I'd almost think about using kindl over him for the next game. Almost.
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) For his first NHL game, Marchenko did just fine. He had 1 major giveaway that Mrazek bailed him out. But even Kronner has made 1 or 2 mistakes per game. It almost felt like Zid was thinking too offensively and not enough defensively. He's got to realize that Tampa is too damn offense heavy to try to make cute plays. He's got to play more balanced this series. Edited April 18, 2015 by kickazz 1 Desert Rat reacted to this

Agreed. He was doing it in the regular season too, he does some really questionable things. He is a veteran, and you gotta give him another game to see how he's gonna respond, who knows, he could surprise me. But I have not been as impressed with him as I feel like I should be given his offensive numbers.
