Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted January 7, 2016 We have this thanks to our genius GM: Weiss missing tooth out of work buyout 15 mil Howard backup goalie 4 more years 20 mil Tootoo playing in Jersey buyout 4 mil Ericsson 3 more years 15 mil Kindl sitting in the pressbox 1 more year 2.5 mil Cleary in the minors 1.5 mil There are about 3 other bad contracts, but those were all fairly understandable at the time. Our GM is the king of not knowing what he's doing. Don't forget: Hatcher Whitney Carlo C

cnot19 191 Report post Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Other than DeKeseyer, Ericsson is the best defensemen we've developed since Kronwall... Kinda scary I would argue we didn't develop dekeyser since he was an older rookie going straight from college to the nhl. Also we weren't the only ones going for him, it's not like we were the only ones who knew he would be good, so I don't know how much credit the front office should actually get for acquiring him Edited January 7, 2016 by cnot19 1 F.Michael reacted to this

I think Marchenko has a solid career in front of him and should surpass E quickly but we're trading him for Stamkos

I do think marchenko can be a good 2nd pairing guy on many teams in the future
e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted January 7, 2016 How does Nashville develop 3 franchise defensemen in the time we've developed Ericsson ...because Ericsson never had the ceiling that ANY Nashville d-man or prospect does.
Nevermind 363 Report post Posted January 8, 2016 Getting Zetterberg and Datsyuk and having both turn out as good as they were was luck. I agree with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Drafting superstars that late is like winning the lottery. But what about the other quality undersized European forwards we've drafted? Namely Filppula, Hudler, Tatar, Nyquist, and perhaps Pulkinnen if he gets better. Even in North America, Helm and Abdelkader turned out to be solid picks. Larkin hopefully becomes elite, but he was picked relatively high. We haven't really drafted similarly valued defenders. Kronwall turned out to be a solid, if unspectacular, #1 d-man. But after him, Quincey and Ericsson are the next best--and both have had severe growing pains and still aren't exactly success stories. Marchenko is a solid 3rd pairing type who might be able to be a shutdown type on the 2nd pair one day. Smith and Kindl have been disasters in their development. DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted January 8, 2016 A lot of it is who they take in the first 2 rounds. Since 2000 they've had 26 picks there. 19 forwards, 5 D, 2 goalies. It's harder to find NHL talent later in the draft, so by using about 20% of their pucks on D, they've limited themselves a bit. 3 krsmith17, Nevermind and PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this
