Most people don’t care for hockey fights anymore but I figured when I watch them it be fun to talk about them here 3 minutes ago, GMRwings1983 said: How long before they ban fighting in the NHL altogether? Well with the PC world we live in, everything is going to get banned that has to do with violence. WWE is next, trust me. WWE will end before The Undertaker retires (unless we assume his recent retirement is forreal) Edited November 8, 2017 by kickazz

Neomaxizoomdweebie 3,083 Report post Posted November 8, 2017 Removing fighting from the NHL isnt just about the violence. It's also about liability. The NHL doesnt want to end up in a NFL scenario. It's too easy for former players to sue the league for brain injuries and the like. Remove fighting, eliminate hits to the head, make the players wear helmets...and you make a physical game with risks "safer". Insurance premiums and lawsuit payouts go down, operating costs go down, ticket prices go down...or at least they should. I don't blame the league or even the PC crowd as much as I blame the lawyers. The NHL is only enjoyable if you want to watch large goalies with oversized pads swallowing every shot. The hitting, fighting, and bad blood that the sport was once known for isn't there anymore. Scoring isn't what is used to be. It's very sad.

Fighting plays a very minor role in head injuries. The issue was always elbowing, shoulder to head hits and glove to head hits. That's why the department of player safety address those issues. Someone needs to do a follow-up study on the results of those changes if they haven't already. Maybe I will one day actually. https://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/20/sports/hockey/citing-costs-nhl-injury-study-urges-more-safety.html https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23637116 Edited November 8, 2017 by kickazz 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Low scoring. Fancy toilets machines in the new arena. Oh and the Red Wings missed the playoffs. Sports are a lie. Nothing is real.

kliq 3,755 Report post Posted November 8, 2017 16 hours ago, F.Michael said: The NHLPA will have their say before the league goes full-blown tard by eliminating it from the game. I'm sure the PA would be ok with this, and if they are not while the league is, that pretty much kills the chance of any future lawsuits so the league would win either way. You can't sue the league for damage caused by fighting when the league wanted to do away with it, and the union wanted to keep it.

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted November 8, 2017 1 hour ago, F.Michael said: Watching some fights on YouTube...This is probably my favorite tough guy who never wore the Winged Wheel...Classic throwback - could play the game, and dropped the gloves when needed. He had an impressive fight card, but always fought a boring style for me. Although, that helped him have a long career and avoid any huge losses. Youtube videos of classic fights is about the only way to see heavyweights tangling in the NHL. The current league isn't set up for that. A guy like Lucic may be the top fighter in the league now, where 10 years ago, he'd be lunch meat for any of the best enforcers.
