STRIKE. That is how they'll respond. IMO it's not the length that needs to be wrangled in, it's the AAV. You cannot even grow with a team and watch the same players for 10-15 years like we once did, these contracts are getting so ridiculous that teams won't be able to afford to keep a "core" around for 15 years.

Players would strike over that too.

I do agree that dropping it from 20% to around 15% to 18% might be a 'saving grace' - however we'd then probably see more players getting closer to the max %.

If it's not 1 thing - it'll be sumthin else...And yeah - I'd be shocked if the NHL/NHLPA avoided a work stoppage a few years from now.

It's not the off-season any more, but...

I really think Chicago wins this trade (unfortunately)... Strome could end up being a bust, but I think there's still a ton of potential there, and he's still only 21. To get Perlini as well, is a big win in my opinion.

I thought Chayka was going to be a good GM, but he's made some really questionable trades so far in his tenure. Shipping out Duclair, Domi and now Strome / Perlini in short order... Not good. It's fun to see GM's being active (trigger happy), but I'm glad our GM is a little more patient (trigger shy)...

Oh, hey, Arizona accomodates Chicago again. Cool. Great. Awesome. Love that Coyotes franchise, yessiree. Tremendous people there, just the greatest.

Offseason!

Also: *shuttt up!*

Seriously though, if Yzerman is a general manager anywhere over the next few years, it will definitely, 100% be with the Red Wings. He's leaving Tampa to "be closer to family". He's not going anywhere but Detroit.

What if Yzerman doesn't want to GM anymore or be the GM of the Wings(I know blasphemy)

Could he jump up the ladder to be a president? He is a BC boy maybe go be president of Nucks and Benning does GM work cause I think Benning is still dual roling it out there.   The whole move back to Detroit is a shell game and all he is doing is packing up the house to head west.

If that were to happen what would Tampa get in return provided it happens before his contract is up?

I will agree that anything is possible, but truth be told I feel Stevie Y sees himself as an 'adopted son' of Detroit, and he's lived there the most throughout his adult life (also considering his wife is from the area, and his 3 girls still consider metro Detroit their home).

Again - anything is possible, but I really do believe he wants to go home (Detroit), and work in some capacity within the Detroit Red Wings organization.

Yzerman will be let out of his contract after the turn of the year, he will step in as New GM of Detroit, Holland will step aside as GM, continue his role as VP until it is announced that he will be taking over in Seattle, in which then Detroit will be compensated with a 3rd round pick from that franchise for allowing them Holland.  Tampa will be compensated with a 3rd round pick from Detroit for Yzerman.

Also, despite being born in BC, he grew up in Nepean Ontario. They moved when Steve was 10. I believe he probably has more ties to Ontario than he does to BC. He most definitley has more ties to Detroit than he does BC. If he left Tampa, a great team, and nice warm place to live, in order to be "home" more, I don't see a scenario where he would tempted to move to Vancouver to be what he already was in Tampa.  He moved "home" to be in the Wings organization.

Here's a nice little read on him from 2008 when he was inducted in to the Ottawa Sports HOF.

Jimmy D is Senior VP and Alt. Governor, plus he is VP of The Tigers.  Holland is Executive VP and GM of Red Wings only. He'll step aside as GM and remain VP, then let out of his contract when Seattle expansion is announced. Jimmy D has no reason to go anywhere. He and Yzerman will return this team to glory!

But I have a feeling your question was sarcasm.

I was looking into the crystal ball this morning...
