The thing he has that lets me KNOW he's going to be good, just like I knew Zadina was going to be bad, is instincts. He's clearly reading plays faster than all 9 other players on the ice. That's what made Zberg, Dats, and Lids great, and that's ASP's best bet to becoming great. If he can keep his head up and scan the ice and read plays the same way at defense he'll turn into a monster Dman.

Max Bultman of The Athletic compared his ceiling to Kris Letang. Agree or disagree?

Yeah I agree with Buttman on that one. Fair comparison for cieling.

The weirder one is Danielson IMO. He skates like the wind. Plays in all situations. But is he truly a top six scorer?

Seen him compared to Dylan Cozens, Elias Lindholm, and Roope Hintz. I just don't see someone with his physical profile, skating, and skill not being able to score. It works far more often than it doesn't.

I don't watch the Brandon Wheat King, but everyone says they were total garbage and Danielson carried the team on hiss back, playing in all situations. So I havee faith in him for that. It will be interesting to see him join GR and get decent players like Hirose and Czarnik on his wings and seeing what he can do with that.

I’ve seen some interesting takes on him via the YouTube recently.  Mostly his ongoing battle with Bedard and how in their 18 games against each other in recent years Bedard was only ahead of him by a few goals.  I can’t find the exact stats at the moment but it was definitely interesting and the video was saying that it shouldn’t be that surprising Yzerman picked him as Bedards a generational talent and this Danielson kid isn’t only keeping up with him he’s being the most difficult opponent Bedard has had.   Video also had some pretty silky moves by him, the kid can definitely do it all.

Yah, and he's 6'2, 185 already.  That ALMOST an NHL body size.  Freshman 15 to 200 lbs and hello Detroit.  Something is telling me Yzerman completely nailed it with our first 2 picks this year.  I would not be surprised at all if a redraft article in 10 years has Danielson and ASP both in the top 5.

It's kind of an interesting narrative. Bedard goes to Chicago. Our biggest historical rival. We draft Danielson in the same draft, Bedard's biggest rival, but also someone he became good friends with and said was the hardest to play against. We will probably be watching a Bedard vs Danielson matchup in the playoffs in the near ffuture. Two friends. Playing for two differrent families. Montagues v Capulets. Forbidden friendship.

Danielson will be fueled by his testosterone and gigachaddiness.  Bedard will wear his pride jersey under his blackhawks jersey.  The era of "The Nate One" is upon us.

So we can agree, Yzerman changed everything.

He made some great trades too. Not necessarily for players that were going to be around for the long term, some were trial and error, but he got rid of nearly all Hollands junk. Vrana was a fleece, even though he didn't work out. Mantha was topped out, he wasn't getting any better. The other assets Yzerman got in that deal, and how they all played out thus far was far better than keeping Mantha. He made some flops too, but again, he was basically trying to make the team competitive while dumping Holland's junk.

This off season he got 4 players I believe he feels are going to huge to this team for years and years. Debrincat (obviously) Kostin, Danielson and Pellikka. The others are just stop gaps to make them competitive in order to take the next step of progression the next 1-4 years.

An underrated part of Yzerman's tenure as GM has been his cap management. By keeping contracts low and short he's been able to sit on a ton of cap space, which he has routinely used to acquire (and flip) players for draft picks and better players. He made something out of nothing in a way that would have baffled Ken Holland.

Holld would have signed the same types of players, but he'd be throwing out 7-year deals like candy.

Just 4 short years ago this was the roster. Only TWO players remain. Four if you count Veleno & Rasmussen, but apparently they played all this season in GR Yzerman has been at least constant in trying to ice a better team, and if you look at today's roster, they are leaps better!

Not to diminish your point, a almost total overhaul, but I count three: Larkin, Fabbri and Lindström.
