I hope Yzerman isn't done for the summer. The D and G situation has to be taken care of.

After Velenos arbitration buyout Husso and then buy a Dman. Fact that Talbot got a 2 year deal spells the end for Husso to me.

Now that Seattle has Montour they are loaded on RHD. I've mentioned this guy b4 here - Will Borgen - get him off the Kraken. He'd be a poor mans 4th D but better than what we have and young and cost controlled.

Another name still out there as UFA is Justin Schultz

Here's Husso buyout info:

We also need to remember that (D) Jacob Truscott will become UFA in August since he isn't signing with Vancouver.

Not sure where Truscott fits after signing Laggeson. We have Wallinder, Buium, Laggeson, Viro, and possibly Eddogg down the left side in GR. Assuming Eddogg joins the Wings and Viro goes to the Walleye, there still doesn't seem to be much space.

And don't forget about Brobeast

He'll block any trade that takes him away from Bakersfield

Husso could be LTIR and Copp could be the buyout candidate. Holl cannot be bought out, but could be sent down, which will save $900k from the cap and allow Johansson and Edvinsson to stay up.

There is no way the season starts with 8D and 3G. At least one has to go.

Husso is fully healed and ready for training camp. Wtf would you LTIR a below average healthy goalie? Stop being purposely retarded.

Copp is nowhere near a buyout, and if you don't understand that you havent been paying attention.

Because it is an injury that could easily reoccur before the season starts.

And Copp could very well be the buyout. He is the least value contract. 5+ million dollars for a 3C, at best. The only other buyout options would be Chiarot or Husso.

If Yzerman wants to add to the roster, he is going to need cap space. Waiving Holl, buying out Copp, and placing Husso on LTIR all accomplish that.

Unless you think this team is great the way it is, then sure, let's do none of those things.

??? News to me. What's the injury specifically?

My point exactly: You haven't been paying attention.

Copp plays the hardest minutes of any forward on the team. He's our #1 PK center, and his line is consistently used as the matchup line against other teams top lines.

You see 33 pts, but don't have any clue to the context in which that player is deployed or how those points are earned. Cancel out powerplay pts, give Copp better matchups and better linemates, and he's probably ahead of JTC on the score sheet.

But since he's probably the best defensive forward on the team, he's asked to be a shutdown player. And SY has routinely said this offseason he's trying to improve the overall defense of this team. Buying out your #1 shutdown center is the antithesis to that goal.

I'm not surprised to see you mention Chiarot either. Another player fairweather fans with little to no understanding of defense don't appreciate. Even though he's Lalondes most trusted defender besides Seider...

I don't care if you care to absorb any of this, but the notion that Copp and Chiarot are going anywhere in the near future is beyond foolish. Scott literally trolls you guys with this stuff and you eat it right up lmao.

Copp can be replaced on the checking line by Motte.

And Veleno's arbitration window opens up another buyout period if Yzerman needs to free up some more cap space.

Per Puckpedia:

If a team has a player go to arbitration and it is either settled or awarded, the team receives a new 48 hour buyout window beginning 3 days after the arbitration settlement or award.  The only contracts that are eligible to be bought out in this window are for player with Cap Hits greater than $4M AND they were on the team's roster at the last trade deadline.

This means that on defense, ONLY Chiarot is eligible. And at forward, Copp would be the most likely candidate that is qualified. Also, Husso could be bought out.

If Steve wants to use that window to buy out a contract, those are the options. Facts are regarded, I guess.

And I don't care what Copp does for the team, there is no way you can justify that he is worth 5.625 million per for the next 4 years.

Edit: Petry may also be eligible due to his cap hit being over 4 million, but spread out over more than 1 team.

Exactly.  People act like we have a special cap hit of 99 million.

Yup.  Jimmy, would you rather have Copp and Chiarot at 10 mil a season, or would you rather have Hampus Lindholm and Nate Danielson at 10 million?

Jimmy: Chiarot and Copp.

Conversation over.

You didn't answer my question about Husso. What is the injury he has that is you suspect is likely to reoccur?

Thank you for the info about arbitrations and buyouts. I understand it a fair amount being the one who originally brought it up regarding a Husso buyout...

"I don't care what Copp does for the team"

You lost all credibility right there.

Hockey isn't all about pts. As soon as you learn that you'll understand why guys like Copp and Chiarot get paid and why guys like Ghostbear have to sacrifice 2 million to get a small amount of term.
