I'll 2nd that! That would be WAY overpaying. Power forward and he never should have won the Selke. Stupid shortened season put the trophy committe on the short bus. Kesler got Selke and Subban wins the Norris those each get a laugh.
I don't view Jurco in the same category as the mentioned ones so if he is part of a package for Ehrhoff I would be okay with that. What do the Sabres need? They suck at every position so maybe Mrazek Jurco and second rounder are enough
It seems every year we have a new young player who looks good in limited action and is deemed "untouchable" by fans.
Then the next year comes, he plays more minutes and gets exposed a bit more or injured and doesn't explode into the "future" player he was predicted as and everyone moves onto the next flavour of the week.
It has recently happened with Helm, then Smith, then Nyquist, then Tatar, and now Jurco and Sheahan and I'm sure it will continue on with Pulkkinen, Jankrok and Mantha. It's like clockwork every year...
Bottom-line everyone's available for the right price and maybe we all(myself included) have a bad habit of over-valuing our young guys.
But I like our prospects. I'd rather trade a kid that's still good, but out of options on our end like Ferraro or Almqvist.
Quincey is actually only 3rd on the teams D in giveaways (Smith 39, Kronwall 33, Quincey 32, Kindl 31, Ericsson 30). He's also played more games than any other D-man on our team... suggesting that his giveaway's per-game is lower than most of our other D (I don't wanna compute the numbers, but I believe that math makes sense). More, Quincey is also leading our D in take-aways (Quincey 27, Kronwall 20, Smith 14, Lashoff 13, Ericsson 12, Kindl 12). More, Quincey is also 1st among our D in even strength ice time, 2nd among our D in shorthanded ice time, and only has 23 minutes on the PP... suggesting that his giveaways and takeaway numbers are better per minute than our other d-men.
Is Quincey good? No. But he's not a horrible ball and chain like everyone suggests. We brought him in for a first at the deadline and he wasn't the savior everyone hoped for, and he gets crucified for it. He's just another Eaves. Good? No. Bad? No. Just blahhhhhhhhh
Datsyuk is arguably the best 1st line center when HEALTHY. Trade him too?
I do like Ehrhoff's contract
Smith leads the list cause of the HORRIBLE passes Q gives him. I must throw that out there. I say trade him to the B's cause apparently they were interested in him and bring up Ouellet, whom I think is our most ready D prospect from what I've seen.
So, what do you suggest. Stand pat, do nothing, do not try to improve? Kesler is MUCH better than Andersson, Weiss and Glenny. And whether you like to believe it, way better than Helm.
No, I do not WANT Kesler at the deadline, but I do WANT to improve our team and if it takes trading Helm in order to do so, then trade him. As a matter of fact I do not even like Kesler and his Avs-loving, Ohio State arse...heard he was a prick in High School as well. But I do like making our team good enough to win.
Maybe I should say those players are REPLACEABLE. Is that better?
I'll bite on Erhoff and say that the Sabres could benefit from Almqvist, Ferraro/Andersson and then a piece like Jensen with a 3rd round pick, but I wouldn't pay more than that for him. As far as Kesler goes, if the Wings get him, I will likely cancel my Gamecenter account. That's how much that diving piece of trash is worth to me, not worth trading my favourite player behind Z and Dats for either, aka the best 3rd line centre in the NHL. Z will be back in time for the last week or 2 of the season, quote me on that. Weiss will return very soon. Also, you can have Helm centre the 2nd line for now with Franzen, whom is playing lights out his past 20+ games centre the top line, keeping the whole kid line intact. Then you have Glendening on the 4th line. Say you make the move I stated and Weiss comes back Thursday after the trade deadline, you have this: (with Dats out for a week just for arguments sake)
Alfredsson-Helm-Weiss(ease back in on the wing with Helm doing the grunt work)
Smith-Quincey (though I hate this pairing and wish we'd trade Q to the B's and bring up Ouellet)
Add Z and Dats to that team and you're in good shape. Nyquist has been on another level lately, Tatar is justf****** awesome and exciting and that whole line is great and Helm seems to score like a 2nd line C when he plays 2nd line C, kinda weird, but we'll take it. He's due for an outburst. Glendening can't buy a goal, but he plays like a young annoying Maltby and skates like an animal, so he gets my nod for 4th C pretty much for good, maybe on the wing should Helm move down.
Our team is good, but there's no sense in mortgaging the farm for Kesler or any rentals. We still have to find out what Pulks, Jarnkrok and Mantha can do up here as well, along with Ouellet, Sproul, Marchenko and even Backman on D. I'm going with the thought that we don't need any more veteran presence than Z, Dats, Alfie, Kronner, Ericsson, Erhoff, and Mule and we need to keep the young legs in there to keep the team moving and to learn from the useful vets we have.
So Pav is out Tuesday and Weiss had a setback. Without our three top centers. Man, I hate thinking about selling the farm for someone but I feel like we might be more in on Kesler now.
I'd do Helm, Tatar, 1st for Kesler.
Kindl, one of Oullet/Sproul/Jensen, pick for Erhoff.
IF we could make it to the playoffs and have Pav and Z back we could go...
WORST thing I've ever seen. Helm and Tatar with a 1st should land you Shea Weber for the blueline, let alone a diving sissy in Kesler. And Ouellet and Sproul are the very definition of "top prospect". They alone will both likely be better than Erhoff, who is injury prone to boot.
I say yes to a D-Man...and maybe a FWD if the right deal pops up. Rumor has it that the Wings are one of 3-4 teams that are in serious talks with VAN for Kesler...but even if a Boyes or Jagr presents itself I think Holland will move on it...within reason of course.
DO NOT MOVE Sheahan, Tatar, Nyquist or Jurco. Thank you.
The guy has a couple injury issues and you cast him aside as expendable?? That's like all the people on here saying Weiss sucks and to trade him despite his groin and sports hernia injuries hampering his physical ability. Helm is no more expendable than any of the guys on your DO NOT MOVE list, though I'm not surprised you think that because you want Kesler the tumbleweed at the deadline. Hilarious...
NHL officiating: predictable, as always. Where getting a lead is always punished.
I mentioned that earlier. Where a penalty is called against the team that's leading but not against the team losing for doing the exact same thing. they shouldn't reward a team that's losing by giving them chances to get back into the game that they don't deserve. Call penalties both ways. Same thing with our 1 goal lead last night. Montreal got no more calls against. Last night, PP 1 for 1. Tonight, PP 1 for 1. Not getting another chance no matter how dirty the dirtbag Sens get.
