#2017846 Antti Niemi files for arbitration

Posted by Doggy on 21 July 2010 - 08:41 PM

I read that wrong and nearly posted, "The f*** is going on when Clark MacArthur gets $4.2 million?"

Would it be more beneficial for the Hawks to keep Niemi and lose Sharp, or the other way around and go with Huet?

If they go with Huet they'll have to lose Sharp anyway.

#2017841 Clarke MacArthur

Posted by Doggy on 21 July 2010 - 08:33 PM

Atlanta's situation is interesting. Its a little early to predict what their lineup may look like, but I'm thinking:

Peverley-Antropov-?
?-E.Kane-?
?-Slater-?
Boulton-Thorburn-?

Enstrom-Hainsey
Bogosian-?
Valabik-?

With Eager and Ladd set to file for arbitration, you never know what they will be awarded.I'm not sure what Todd White's status is.Anyone think Patrice Cormier (Yes,that guy) has a chance at cracking a roster spot?Is Byfuglien gonna be there next year.I think he's an RFA and I haven't heard much about him lately.

Byfuglien is contracted through 2010/2011 as is Todd White.

These guys are still without contracts, but I'm sure Little, Ladd, Eager and Bergfors are more likely to be regulars for Atlanta than Cormier. They're all RFA's. I would imagine their re-signing would be somewhat of a formality.

All signings today include a Little Caesar's pizza.  Do it Mikey!

Would that count as cap circumvention? Gotta be careful.

Honestly, the dude seems like a total douchebag meathead. I enjoyed every second of this video, and I'm completely surprised that he didn't throw something through the TV. Although, if he did, that would only reinforce my sentiment that douchebag, meathead, chin-strap-beard-wearing assholes like this don't deserve the cute and clever-arsed girls that they end up with.

Bitter.

Why are you posting about the MTV Video Music Awards here?

Oh wait... my bad.

#1997330 Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?

Posted by Doggy on 10 June 2010 - 12:24 AM

Evgeni Malkin stole it from the officiating crew last year.

Gigure was a product of his pads and his defense in 06-07.

I always thought Sakic and Forsberg did more than Roy in 01.

Didn't Niedermayer win it in 07? You're thinking of '03 and he thoroughly deserved it then. Big pads or not.

On-topic: this thread is a joke.

#1995743 Why Holmstrom

Posted by Doggy on 07 June 2010 - 09:05 AM

I could mention thing likes Jason Chimera made $1.875m last season with his 15 goals and 34 points. Is that the kind of scorer you're looking for? What about Eric Belanger's 15 goals and 41 points for $1.75m? Hey what about Radek Dvorak's 14 goals and 32 points for his $1.7m cap hit? Better option than Holmstrom?

Okay, I see your point, but you have to remeber some players are a product of their environment, like Osgood, he was terrible in NY & below average in STL, but on the Wings he was better than average. This will be the same with Chimera, who is and will be much better on WAS. Also remember, if you are going to give stats from last year, you have to use salaries from last year also. Holmstrom made $2.25 last year. Radek Dvorak, really?????? He had one good season in NY on a decent team, he was horrible in EDM, and bad in FLA. In my opinion, they are over payed for him too. I think Belanger could be a decent player given a different roll, & maybe that will happen, he could be that diamond in the rough you speak of.

Okay. These are all free agents BTW (Although we know Modano has retired).

Mike Modano - 14 goals, 30 points @ $2.25m
Chris Higgins - 8 goals, 17 points @ $2.25m
Keith Tkuchuk - 13 goals, 32 points @ $2.15m
Marek Svatos - 7 goals, 11 points @ $2.35m

The only comparable players that had season's as good as Holmstrom were Selanne (27 goals, 48 points)and Guerin (21 goals, 45 points) both making $2m.

Do you still think the same way about this signing??

#1995728 Why Holmstrom

Posted by Doggy on 07 June 2010 - 08:25 AM

Never said he was a free agent, was just comparing salaries to what he made last year, I have no idea what his next contract will be & neither do you, it's all speculation at this point.  Still does not debunk my point that money could be spent more wisely & better talent generated.

For all intents and purposes it does debunk your point because what you're suggesting is unrealistic. I do have an idea of what Jokinen will get -- apparently moreso than you because you've displayed zero knowledge of the value of a hockey player.

I could mention thing likes Jason Chimera made $1.875m last season with his 15 goals and 34 points. Is that the kind of scorer you're looking for? You can complain about bargain deals everywhere. Young players on entry-level or second contracts are not accurate comparisons though. Otherwise everyone would be complaining about the value of Tampa's 50 goals from Stamkos.

Funny, clever and true.  I still don't get how the get Bufflin or Bucklin out of By-Fug-Li-En.  Perhaps the Y, F, and E are silent and it's supposed to sound like Buglin?  Or is there a way to silently move letters around?  Maybe the U takes the place of the Y, and the G and E become silent...

No it sounds like Bufflin.

#1993234 Boston entertaining offers for #2 pick overall

I added Maltby how can anyone say no to this?

I think if Kenny threw Chris Chelios' phone number it'd be a done deal.

#1993216 There's really only one question about next season's team now.

Posted by Doggy on 02 June 2010 - 04:31 PM

I dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but I'd really like to see Holland spend $2m on a player that can consistently win face-offs to play on the third line. The biggest difference between our 2010 playoff team and our 2008 playoff team was our aptitude in the face-off circle.

#1991870 CBC's Hotstove: Lidstrom to determine future within 7 days

Posted by Doggy on 31 May 2010 - 04:40 PM

Wrong. You want to say that Lidstrom is better than Pronger, be my guest. But to say that he is clearly better is just flat out wrong. Right now, I would take Pronger over Lidstrom on a one year deal for next season, in a heartbeat.

Just because other players are overpaid, doesn't mean everyone should be overpaid. Alot of the salaries people are referencing are from contracts that were written before the full pinch of the cap was felt. Look at Rafalski.

The market is still a little weird. It doesn't say you are right.

That's kinda like saying that despite the fact that billions of people will buy Coke at $1 a can every week, it's still overpriced. A product is worth what someone is willing to pay.

The market clearly shows that Nicklas Lidstrom is worth more than a cap hit of $6m despite the opinion of you and the other armchair GM's at LGW.

#1991857 CBC's Hotstove: Lidstrom to determine future within 7 days

Posted by Doggy on 31 May 2010 - 04:14 PM

Duncan Keith 5.5m
Christopher Pronger 6,25m (next year 4.9m)

kthxbye.

Lidstrom's clearly better than Pronger.

Keith is a great deal - can't argue with that. Still there are actually even more examples of worse players getting over $6.5m - Bouwmeester, Campbell.

The market says you're wrong, kiddo.

#1991835 CBC's Hotstove: Lidstrom to determine future within 7 days

This is the Red Wings' Captain's chance to show the rest of the team what's important to him - personal riches beyond the wildest dreams of almost all professional hockey players, or the success of the team.  He has collected somewhere in excess of 87 million dolars from the Red Wings.  Today is Memorial Day and I'm reminded that great men have given everything they had for the good of people they never met - demanding $7 million dollars as a forty-year-old to play a child's game after he's made as much bank as he has off the team seem like a bit more of a **** move than it otherwise would.  At the end of the day Lids' job is to be an entertainer, and entertainers should be fairly compensated....but there is more to life than just taking as much as you can get.

What's it gonna be, Lids - a major discount, a real shot at a Cup and they knowledge amongst those you Captain that you gave money away for a chance to make this team work, or a few extra inches of money to put on the pile next to the rest of it?

I'm gonna be frank. This is just a hideous display of idiocy. Lidstrom has already foregone an arguable $15m-$25m in hometown discounts for the Wings over the past decade and a half and you sit there and post this.
