#2254791 2/10 GDT : Ducks 1 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Posted by ogreslayer on 10 February 2012 - 06:40 PM

With the Winter Classic officially announced, I think he'll play one more season for sure.

I hope they just play a looped video of Homer saying "for sure" in honor of his 1000th tonight.

Got to say that I'm more nervous about tonight's game being the streak-ender than Sunday's with the Flyers. Hope the boys don't overlook the Ducks like they've done with teams like the Habs, Islanders, etc. Prove me wrong Wings!

#2254272 Jeff Carter

Posted by ogreslayer on 09 February 2012 - 01:21 PM

I think this is a very different situation. He ended up marrying her...this wasn't a notch in his belt over a teammate.....the dude fell in love. Shanny did not have a bad reputation or thought of being a prima-Donna. He alos wasnt injury proned and has never been accused of not having a ton of charactor or a huge heart. To suggest the 2 are comparable are kinda ridiculous.

Carter was only rumored to have slept with Hartnell's wife where Shanny did indeed do that & ended up marrying Janney's wife 3 years after the incident. So I guess that means by your line of thinking, once Carter marries the former Lisa Hartnell & confirms that their screwing around is what broke up her marriage, the Wings organization (and by extension you) would be able to welcome him with open arms?

Oh and for Carter being a prima donna & making it known he wants out of Columbus being something that Shanny would never do here's just a little bit of an article from back in October of 1996 about a little transaction between the Wings & Whalers...

Hartford is finally in Brendan Shanahan's rearview mirror.

The Whalers granted Shanahan's wish yesterday when they traded the disgruntled forward along with defenseman Brian Glynn to the Detroit Red Wings for Paul Coffey, Keith Primeau and a first-round draft pick next year.

The 27-year-old Shanahan, a first-round choice of the Devils in the 1987 draft, made noise all summer that he wanted out of Hartford. He was held scoreless last night during Detroit's 2-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Maybe take the Wings Rose-Red colored glasses off & see the situations aren't all that different after all.

#2250263 Winter Classic Idea

Posted by ogreslayer on 27 January 2012 - 12:49 PM

If you move the Winter Classic off of New Years Day, here's what you do....

1. Move it to the weekend after the NFL Conference Championship games & before the Super Bowl
2. Get rid of the All-Star Game
3. Still select All-Stars who compete in the skills competition Saturday night after an alumni game
4. Hold the WC that Sunday where the only competition will be the NBA & college B-Ball

My vote goes to the NHL's PIMs leader at the goalie spot

#2248939 Time for my Cleary update.

Posted by ogreslayer on 24 January 2012 - 10:48 AM

Would I mind seeing Cleary get traded? Not at all, given the right circumstances i.e. a serious upgrade. Say maybe in a package deal to NJ for Parise. For a gritty, older "Dallas Drake" style player capable of upping their physical game in the playoffs? We have one of those right now & his name is Dan Cleary. Regardless, if the Wings traded him, who would answer the phones at the Red Wings residence?

#2248262 1/23 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 3

Posted by ogreslayer on 23 January 2012 - 10:41 AM

f***....we have to listen to Edzo tonight? I would *almost* prefer to not watch the game in that case.

That's why you need to turn it into a drinking game. Take a shot every time Eddie mentions either the Blackhawks or one of their players. Make it two shots if he mentions Toews & the Hart Trophy in the same sentence. Granted doing that would mean you'll be drunk halfway through the 1st. Might want to switch that to every time he mentions a Wings or Blues player during the game for the sake of your liver.

I'm really hoping that the Blues stay out of the box tonight as the Wings PP seems to do nothing but kill their momentum lately. I'll say 2-1 Wings in a shootout again with Bert netting #300 & Pavs in the shootout.

My favorite part of the article is the byline:

Is the Sun not sure if Cole writes for them or are they not sure that they still exist?

#2244626 Congrats to Jimmy & Pavs

Apparently, Selanne declined as well.

Grumpy old men. :D

With age comes wisdom...

...that the All-Star game is really worthless.

#2241964 Krys Barch.

Wow thats pretty ridiculous to get a suspension for saying that. He could've even just been making a joke about how one got thrown at him during that shootout.

Wrong player actually. The banana throwing incident was Wayne Simmonds. Barch made that "slip on a banana peel" comment to PK Subban.

#2235292 Crosby has "concussion symptoms"

Posted by ogreslayer on 13 December 2011 - 12:57 PM

I think he plays again in the regular season, only it's in a helmet that makes him look like this...

Ultimately, I would rather have him playing than have to put up with all of the media coverage of will he or won't he play.

#2233070 Realignment decided - 4 Conferences

Posted by ogreslayer on 05 December 2011 - 10:19 PM

Let's see, the Wings wanted less travel out west especially during the playoffs & more games with traditional rivals in the east. And with this realignment they get....less travel out west & more games with traditional rivals in the east. How did the Wings get screwed with this move?

And from the reports I heard, the reason the 2 eastern conferences have 7 teams each & a better percentage chance to make the playoffs is to get those owners to buy off on the additional costs & travel time of now having more games out west under the new alignment. And for any complaints about teams missing the playoffs out west with more points than teams in the east, how is that any different than now?

Screw it, just give the C to Hudler or Ericsson & watch LGW erupt.

#2226205 Eaves needs to be in every game

Posted by ogreslayer on 16 November 2011 - 12:40 PM

Personally, I would love to see Patty, hell anyone really, bring some speed and energy on Pavs' wing so we don't continue to see Pavs having to enter the offensive zone with no other Wing close to him, try to stick handle around 4 players, lose the puck, & have it come right back out of the zone. Getting soooooo sick of seeing that happen multiple times a game.

#2226180 Mike Commodore

Posted by ogreslayer on 16 November 2011 - 10:45 AM

No. Columbus didn't even want him last year.

And a huge part of the reason for that, and why no other team claimed him on waivers, was the ridiculous contract Columbus signed him to. At the price Kenny signed him for, I think there would be a pretty good chance some team would claim him at least on re-entry waivers seeing as how they would only be on the hook for 50% of his salary. I'm pretty sure there are enough teams out there who need help on the blue line that would take a chance on Commodore on re-entry waivers for $500k.
