Ron MacLean saves a man's life
thegerkin and 8 others reacted to T.Low for a post in a topic
I know someone who was going thru a hard time and try to take thier own life...and now 22 yrs later she is the best thing that has ever happened to me, so I married her. She's pregnant with our child right now. Looking at her now, no one would ever believe she ever tried to kill herself. She doesn't waste a moment, overfilling with life, motivates me, challenges me, and inspires me. Good job Ron and "other guy". -

With all do respect, some people have what we intelligent people like to call "mental illnesses". I'm not going to go into great detail but what I will say is that your a ****** and you shouldn't just jump to conclusions about how someone is just because your too ignorant to try to understand them. Obviously this was a cry for help for a man that just needed some evaluation and maybe some meds and someone to talk to. It's people like you that need to have their eyes opened once in a while. Just because you haven't dealt with this yet, doesn't mean you should butt in with stupid talk that makes everyone stupider while reading it. So I'm going to say good job Ron and other guy. I'm glad to see that some people in the world care for others in need. -

Lidstrom also has an immeasurable lead over Pronger in class and honor. Unlike Pronger, Lidstrom has accomplished everything in his amazing career without ever once playing dirty hockey. -

I'd rather see Pronger and Philly with the cup then Chicago. Pronger winning a Conn Smythe won't put his career over Lidstrom's anyways. At least not with level headed fans. -

^ I really would only like to see one of Bert/Homer back next year. I'd rather spend 3 million (if we have the space) one someone who will make a little more impact than Bert. He was good the entire year, but as for actually putting points up, outside a few bright spots he wasn't very good. -

Claude Lemeiux... oh, I don't know... for pile driving Drapers face into the dasher and then leaving it to his team to handle his business. For starters. Corey Perry... seriously, you can't even dispute this. I could go on... -

What are the Pros and Cons of next season?
Jasper84 and one other reacted to stevkrause for a post in a topic
except we're not... you'll have a 100% Franzen, a 100% Kronwall, a goal scorer in Hudler, a better seasoned Howard and a better gelled and cohesive Abdelkader, Helm, Eaves and possibly Miller... plus, there's a good chance we add some toughness... -

With a management philosophy like that you'd be overhauling the roster every year. Great way to suck, but much less effective as a way to build a Cup team. Yes, Nick and Rafi are getting older. That happens. Trade core players, both of whom have friendly cap hits, and both of whom have a history of strong playoff performance? Give up on a Calder nominee after a somewhat poor playoff in his first time? Get rid of his hall of fame caliber mentor (who has one year left on a rather cheap contract)? Kronwall too would be tough to replace at his money. Cleary is one of our more versatile players, had a great playoff a couple years ago. I'm not in love with his contract, but it's not that bad either. He can still be a very valuable player. His injury problems haven't been near as bad as you suggest. How would you propose replacing those guys? Matby and Lebda are all but gone already. Draper only has a year left and won't likely be back afterward. Meech could likely be gone. None of those are really important moves (individually at least), nor do they represent enough money to really make a difference. They're minor roster tweaks that are already happening, not sure what you're complaining about. I guess I understand your point, and agree to some extent. Our years of success combined with the salary cap are taking a toll. But I hardly think the situation is as grim as you seem to suggest. Not much to be excited about this year, but we won't be a bad team. Maybe not a top contender, but really any team in the playoffs has a chance if they get hot at the right time. And we still have great management and a solid core for at least a few more years. No reason to think it will be impossible to solve the problems we'll encounter. -

You mean based on 60% of a season? And 900,000 isn't that high comparatively speaking. There are always options. Despite a rough season, Holland shouldn't have turned his sights right to one of our most valuable prospects. 900,000. Okay....? You do know Kris Draper makes more than that and Kirk Maltby just made a tad less that season. Oh okay, but 60% of a rookie season does. We have a log jam of defensemen. One (whether it be Lebda or Meech) could have easily been moved. And even if we didn't move a defenseman. Why not get rid of guys we know won't be coming back next year? Maltby? Williams? I would have been fine with either one over Leino who at WORST was a question mark. -

45, not that it seems to matter. He just won league MVP, best goalie, and lead his home-town team to the national championship in Czech, setting records for wins and shutouts in the playoffs. I hope he plays forever or until he decides it's not fun and a challenge anymore. Rock on, my goalie!!! -

Are they currently under contract to the Wings for next season? If they're contractually obliged to work for the Wings why the hell would you paint this like he's being cool? He has no right to try and raid the organization now that he's in charge of TB especially because he has inside information and relationships with the Wings employees-- the NHL has specific rules against doing that and it's also a ****** move. Recruiting employees under contract to another organization is an aggressive move no matter how you want to paint it. If he wants to "try to get people to work for him who he is familiar with" he can wait until they're not contractually obliged to work for another team or he can do this and look like a ******. Let me make one thing clear-- being a legend who's beloved by the Wings fans and ownership does not give Steve Yzerman any more right to try to poach employees than Brian Burke has. In fact, he owes Holland the professional courtesy of not using the knowledge he gained of the Wings organization while employed in Detroit to try and steal employees. Edit: Are Wings fans going to give Yzerman a free pass to make aggressive managerial moves aimed at Detroit just because he used to play here? That's retarded. When he's working as the GM of Tampa he has zero concern for Detroit. Don't think that he would hold off making a move the hurts us if it helps his team because he wouldn't. He knows who he is employed for. Yzerman the GM wears a Lightning jersey. -

You need to stop using strawman arguments to defend your completely silly beliefs. No s***. Based on his s***ty season, lack of improvement and high salary? Detroit didn't have "a little bit of time". If they weren't up against the cap Leino would have stayed. How much was he making? 13 games doesn't make a career. Once again you completely have no idea the basis upon which Leino was moved. Do some reading. Nobody is asking you because everybody who pays attention knows why Leino was moved. You obviously don't. Brett Lebda is a defenseman. Not much of a point in getting rid of a defenseman for a forward to replace when you still have to put a defenseman in the lineup anyway. -

Holland didn't make a mistake, in fact, Holland got something for nothing; he got a pick for an underachieving Leino that was more of a liability than anything else. Leino was absolutely brutal and had to go so Wings and Co. didn't lose Johan Franzen or Lilja. Leino was downright awful though-out the regular season. I cringed whenever he was on the ice. Holland was a genius for getting a pick for him.... and that late round pick could become the Datsyuk or Zetterberg. That said, I am glad Leino is playing like a beast. I certainly hope he wins the cup and trust me, I will use the image of him lifting the cup over his head for my avatar. EDIT: Also remember DRWs acquired Leino undrafted, so Holland virtually got a free 5th round pick in the magical midst of thin air. -
1 pointThis team will be better by virtue of the fact that they couldn't possibly be hit with the injury bug any worse than they were last year. Hudler is a reasonable upgrade from Williams because when you overlook the fact that both are lazy backcheckers, Hudler can actually shoot, score regularly, and run a powerplay, and he isn't a locker room cancer. Howard will get another year under his belt, though I felt that he played too much last year and would like to see Osgood start 20-25 games if Babcock will let him. Will this team win the President's Trophy? Probably not, but unless you're Washington or San Jose, who has wet dreams about earning that meaningless piece of hardware? They should be neck-and-neck with Chicago for the Central, and probably finish 3rd or 4th in the West with 1st round home ice advantage.

Not a single person on here can say Hudler will be s***, Abbie will get to 20 gino potential, and oh my goodness Nick was overpaid blah blah blah. Get it out of your systems, its definitely forgotten that we were reffed right out of the playoffs. And yeah, the Sharks sure figured us out and got swept but a round later so they don't scare a whole lot of anyone either. Fact is not a thing can be given a pro or a con until November or even December. Pump the brakes and all the negs in here give it rest cuz with this kind of support I would just rather you guys go ***** and moan on the water cooler. No one is saying its our Cup or no one's next year. But I hardly see us regressing as much as everyone seems to think on here.
