New commissioner, new deputy commissioner in charge of discipline. Problem solved. Until there is ANY consistency in this league, it will continue to be a fringe league at best...

    Bertuzzi Signs 2 Year Deal

There's still room to bring in a physical 4th line player. Bert's cap hit didn't take that away. Not to mention the fact that - Winchester: Career High 21 points...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Pyatt: 23 points last season and 19 the one before...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Asham: Hasn't scored more than 24 points in the past 7 years...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Malhotra: Has never scored more than 35 points his entire career...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Miller: Completely different type of player (who Kenny still could re-sign anyway).....meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Comrie: Hasn't played more than 43 games per season the past 3 years and only once in the past 6 years has he played more than that. Now he's a year older and more brittle. - Higgins: Currently earns $2.25 million *per* and hasn't played a full season the past 3 years...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. - Tanguay: Cap hit of $2.5 million...meaning not greater or less than but more importantly *not equal* too Bertuzzi. ...and why is it Bert's responsibility to be a "value" contract?

Ok-- time to list your favourite Datsyuk quotes: “I have blocked shot,” he said today. “I’m surprised myself, too. Today, it’s hard to put on skates.” “I want to make speech longer but my English short,” "I remember going to the party but I don't remember coming home," (asked at news conference about 08 Cup party) “I can't play with one leg. I need a second leg, too.” That quote where he said it was tough skating with Hossa at practice because he was used to skating with Holmstrom And there was the interview $5 one and the KGB one. Holy crap! I forgot this one: “He just used me like pony,” Datsyuk said. “He was on top of me. I don’t like being the pony. I want to be on top.”

Let me help: Hits the head are illegal. Anyone who violates this rule will be suspended Twenty seconds

"We're looking for precision. Not over-legislation." Umm, how about no hits to the head. Is it really that hard? And while you're at it, take out the ticky-tack hooking penalties for good measure.

If Babcock is trying to create 3 scoring lines and a grind/shutdown line, this is not the group of forwards to do it with, there are not enough scorers to fill 3 lines, plain and simple. If you go with something like this: Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Holmstrom Hudler/Filppula/Franzen Bertuzzi/Abdelkader/Cleary Eaves/Helm/whomever that gives us 2 stacked scoring lines and 2 wreckingball lines that also have some scoring potential. No way Hudler or Filppula are going to be bumped down to the 3rd line in favor of Bertuzzi, at least not on a regular basis. Putting Bertuzzi together with Cleary and Abs will be one heck of a hard line to play against, they may not be the most scary line in terms of skill, but all 3 will crash the net (hopefully not all at the same time) and wear the opposing unit down, even if they spend their entire shift chasing the puck in the offensive zone, that is what a grinding line is supposed to do, forecheck and hit. The 4th line of Helm and Eaves + whoever will be our shut-down line, and having 2 4th-liners who hit double-digit goals last season is nothing to scoff at.

Oh, right. Let's go over this: Shooting: Cleary: 20-30 goal scorer when healthy. Check. Bertuzzi: 20 goal scorer. Check. Abdelkader: Developing, but he has shown flashes. Passing: Cleary: 20-30 assists per season when healthy. Check. Bertuzzi: Did very well last year in this department. Check. Abdelkader: It isn't really his forte. Hitting: Cleary: Uhm, yeah. Bertuzzi: Less than usual, but he showed flashes during the playoffs. Abdelkader: Was one of our leading hitters in the games he played. No offense, bud... but you're a moron.

    Jacques Lemaire to retire

Yeah, he f*cked Minnesota pretty badly. He---along with those who kept him in the coaching job---is a very big reason why they are where they are now.

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what exactly a 1 way or 2 way contract means on this board... I blame the NHL series by EA for the way it mis-represents it -

I'm not ready to give up on him. He's an agitator that consistently breaks up the rhythm of the Bad Guys he plays against. I'd like to think there's still room for him.

I love Malts and it'd be different if we were a young team and needed some veteran leadership, but we don't... it's time to cut ties with Malts...

I put it in quotation marks and added an additional subject line... from every marketing class I've ever taken, I thought the purpose of a title was to be attention grabbing, while the content has the information? I'd be quite alright with Fraser being promoted to Assistant in Detroit, and Chelios taking a job in GR (whether it be head or asst. down there) and as I said in another reply - I'm also in the camp that I want McCrimmon gone one way or another, and although I think all coaches should work their way up so to speak, I think Chelios will eventually be a coach in this league anyway and I would have no problem with this move...

How about neither? 2nd Line Center.

If Babcock's quotes about next year are to ring true, Flip will not be on the third line. Bertuzzi will more than likely be a 3rd line winger playing on the second PP. Hence the lines will probably look more like this: Hudler - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Filppula - Zetterberg - Franzen Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves ---Draper/Ritola/I. Filppula You might even see these pairings, Babs mentioned this as well at some point Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Hudler - Filppula - Franzen Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves ----Draper/Ritola/I. Filppula I think either way would be fine, if the second pairing of Huds, Flip, and Franzen get it done, and surely they're capable of doing so, why not put the super first line back up there and let the Euro-twins work their magic like a few years back. I think that would be the best. Cleary and Bertuzzi could play up too in case someone isn't pulling their weight at even strength - talking about Holmer.... I almost wish they'd trade Draper, but it would be nice to have that veteran savvy on the back side of the offense. I am really pulling for I. Filppula, but I just think it would be cool to have brothers on the team. He looks like he could pan out, but I know i'm probably just dreaming. Who knows, maybe Eaves walks for more money, you never know. Ritola may be traded since we already have Draper as a reserve and he's not longer able to be freely waived down to GR.

    Bertuzzi Signs 2 Year Deal

Damn. Personally I didn't want to see Bertuzzi to be re-signed. IMO they overpaid for his 2 year deal. Oh well though. There is a reason why I am not the GM of the Wings and Ken Holland is not posting on LGW.

No, no, I think he was saying that solving all the problems caused when he was dropped on his head as a child will take time to fix. Head shots in the NHL? Pshaw. Who's worried?
