Do you realize how hard it is to repeat in today's NHL? Especially when you have lost or have to had traded away a great deal of your depth. Detroit kept most of their team in 2009 and almost did it, but yet didn't. Pitt lost a few key ingrediants on the D and didn't get past the 2nd round. Chicago will be competitive all season, but will not come near repeating. So if Mike's idea is to play a couple more season in the hope of getting one more Cup, he should not sign with the Hawks. Not saying Detroit is the favorite, but of all the teams rumored to be interested, it actually is his best opportunity. Besides, who would rather be on a line with, Hudler and Cleary or Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith? If he doesn't sign with Detroit, he will retire...

Yeah, a guy who gets inflated point totals on playing the powerplay and in situations he would never get here, but would still not be a valuable asset to the team. Let's hope not.

Terrible trade idea. They're both equally valuable, they just play different styles of games. Getzlaf is more suited for the Ducks' style of play and Zetterberg is more suited to the Wings. The trade would make both teams worse.

Yeah, this is a question for me. At what point does it stop making the guys want to play harder, and start discouraging the younger guys because they think the Wings will just keep bringing in veterans and not give them a legitimate shot to grow through some ice time? I know, there were all the injuries this year, but to me, time playing with the skilled veterans on a healthy team is different than being brought in with all the pressure on you because the skilled vets are injured. Who will have to be bumped from that chance to accommodate Modano if he signs? Also, regarding the motivation level of Modano himself, I think there are a couple issues. He doesn't seem that completely sure he even wants to play another season; if we convince him to sign, will that hunger level ever materialize? How about if his wife is unhappy still being so far from L.A.? I'm not sure why some people are so sure he'll provide this surge of energy and motivation to the team. That may very well happen, but these other factors could easily make him just coast through, too. It seems just as risky to me as giving the guys we have the shot, or bringing in a grinder.

I am of the belief that anyone who hates Miller and wants him off the team has no concept of the defensive style of play in which he excells. His arrival coincided with the PK unit turning it around and saving our season. Honestly I hope he takes another step forward in Camp and secures a spot, because I believe he brings alot to the team, even if goal scoring is not something he brings.

Helm and Abdelkader: --Do not have arbitration rights --Will be signed to multi-year deals with an eye toward minimizing the cap hit --Are in a disadvantageous position to sign long deals due to their lack of production and thus their agents will resist the idea of signing them cheaply for a long time even if that's all they can really bargain for --These two deals are the most time consuming for Holland because there will be more negotiating involving trading term and yearly cap hit as well as arguments about the financial value of upside --In reality Abdelkader doesn't deserve a raise since he was overpaid last season for what he provided. Holland won't pay a million to score a couple of times a year. Is he a checker or a player with offensive potential. His AHL stats tells you one thing and his NHL stats tells you another. This means the two sides will likely be farther apart at the start of negotiation Eaves, Miller and Meech: --Not core players --Holland will be looking at one year deals to keep the cap hit low and the roster flexible --The players will be more likely to sign 1 year deals in the hope that they can produce a better season next year --All three have arbitration rights which means their contracts need to be sorted out as soon as possible

Man my original post reminded me of those minority of Wings fans who somehow find a way to dislike everything Yzerman does. Anybody ever seen those blogs? They make claims like "Yzerman was selfish for taking that shot on Jon Casey during Game 7 because it could've hit the glass and turned into an odd man rush the other way." It's like get the f*** outta here, man...

Third Line Center to start, could play higher if he performs (injuries as well will shake the lines up) and at least 2 powerplay unit, I would say that is a pretty good role on this team...

When I saw this title, I expected to see the Hindenburg in the first post.

Because, I am tired of people trashing miller that he doesn't bring anything we don't already have... having 3 players that can kill a penalty isnt enough, and hes probably our best defensive forward on the team... he doesnt play a flashy high powered offensive game or fight, so he doesn't get noticed like Flip or some enforcer. Hes a solid forth liner, and I think the wings are a better team with him.

Umm... no... Datsyuk and Zetterberg are better players than Getzlaf. Why would Anaheim's theoretical unwillingness to trade Getzlaf for any player on our roster establish him as better than all of them? And no, I wouldn't trade Zetterberg for Getzlaf. Zetterberg is a great player and the future captain of the team.
