If it is indeed Ozzie's last season, I bet nobody wears #30 in Detroit again for a long time, if ever.

That same case could be made for a lot of players in the Hall.

As for the whole Osgood/Babcock and getting treated unfairly or whatever, it wouldn't surprise me, but nobody knows what's going on behind closed doors so life could be peachy neat between the two of them for all we know. As for this past season, sure I would've like to have seen Osgood play more, but given the situation - Howard doing very little to justify getting benched on a consistent basis after Osgood went down with the flu or injury or whatever in December and the Wings having the unusual part of fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot, Howard was going to be the guy unless he absolutely s**t the bed. Sure he did it here and there and for a game or two in the playoffs, but you can pretty much put any goalie on a list who does that from time to time, even the great ones like Hasek or Roy etc. It wouldn't been great to see Osgood play a bit more, but the handling of goalies and what not was not the end of all end things that cost the Red Wings this season or the playoffs, it didn't really play much of a factor as some might want to believe. I'd love to see Osgood play for a few more seasons.

Mangina, ******. Thing is, babies come out of vaginas, therefore they're pretty tough. Williams is nothing compared to that kind of toughness.

    Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

All I said was that he has only played one full season in the NHL. While its a skewed comparison in terms of skill, his situation could be reminiscent of Ericsson's, who was very highly touted a year ago after a great stint at the NHL level, but is now somewhat of a question mark. Not saying he'll falter, but you never know. My point was that 1.5 seasons of good play isn't enough to warrent 3.5 million in salary, but hey, anything that makes their situaiton more complicated is good in my book, but if I'm them I'd rather keep Sharp over Hjalmarsson.

That is just that writers expectation, not fact. I haven't heard Osgood say anything about retiring. In fact he has given quite the opposite impression to me. There are certain goals he want's to accomplish and given the year he had last year, he wasn't able to make much headway. Now if this year is the same as last, well then he might look at retirement, I love Jimmy, but I for one see a bounce back year for Ozzie with closer to a 50/50 game distribution, if Osgood plays well.

What's also forgotten in discussions about Osgood? Only 8 goalies have played more playoff games, and only 7 have won more. Of the seven goalies who have won more, there are 25 Cup rings, 24 earned as starter of the last 30 Cups, and 5 Conn Smythe trophies of the 9 awarded to goalies in that time frame. No other goaltender during that time frame has come even close to those kinds of numbers. If Osgood plays a couple more seasons and gets playoff time, he passes Vernon (77), Dryden (80), perhaps even Belfour (88), Smith (88), and Fuhr (92) in playoff wins. The active top-10 list? Osgood (74) Nabokov (40) Khabibulin (39) Fleury (38) Giguere (33) Kiprusoff (25) Ward (23) Miller (22) Lalime (21) Turco (21) Fleury, Ward, and Miller are the only ones with a realistic chance of matching Osgood by the same age. Osgood has 74 wins at 37. Fleury, 25, would have to average 3 wins per postseason. Ward, 26, would have to average 4.5 wins per postseason. Miller, 29, would have to average 6.5 wins per postseason. Khabibulin, 37, would have to win 35 games this postseason... Those three and Khabibulin are the only starters on the list, and Khabi is as old as Ozzie and playing for a non-playoff team. And it's likely that none of them will do it. Fleury has the best chance; he might do it or come close. The other two have to average a second round appearance over the remaining time.

Maybe he's just considering his options, consulting with his family, and making a decision about where the best place is for all concerned at this point. You guys make such a big deal about him consulting his wife. Hey, guys, we gals need to be included in huge decisions like where to move to. We have responsibilities and we need to know what our new surroundings will be like. I mean, really- suppose you moved to a new town, got a new job that came with 20+ new friends, and you invited them all over to your house for supper and your wife couldn't get you all a beer because she didn't know where the store was. Wouldn't you feel silly then? I bet you would! It is your manly duty to make sure that the wife has a comfortable kitchen and convenient grocery/liquor shopping in the event of the aforementioned scenario. If I had three or more job offers sitting on the table, all of which involved moving to a new place, you can bet I'd take my time to be sure it was the right decision.

I was one of those people who were extremely hard on Ozzy this season; and justly so. But for some reason anytime Ozzy is supposed to be a back up he plays amazing, so I'm all for letting him be the back up for the next year or two.

    Remaining Free Agents

Drapers usefulness is getting limited but he can still play well enough for a 4th line role. Holmstrom had 25 goals last year and to say he needs to go because he's soft is just ridiculous.

With booze, and arrests??? Really though, I feel that he should be back in time for Traverse City, and will probably start the year 1st pair in Grand Rapids.

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

With all due respect why would Modano have any emotional tie to Probert, other than basic human emotion. Lidstrom, Draper Homer?? Ken Holland, Osgood? Would want to win one for Probie before Modano would, Modano would probably like to win one for Modano!

    Brett Lebda signs with Toronto

Lebda is a Notre Dame Fightin ***** and I thought he always will be a depth defensemen. Good luck with that one, ass. Also, my buddies were at Cheli's when Lebda dropped the Cup and dented it. That is not a rumor. It's true. Photographic evidence to come once I find it on Facebook..

    Getflaf for Zetter

Hah, yeah, because the loyalty this organization shows to its players is NEVER reciprocated, NEVER makes other players want to play in Detroit, and, in general, NEVER pays this organization any dividends. Oh, wait... you're wrong. Yes, the loyalty has its downsides, namely that some longtime players get contracts they may not deserve. However, you're completely oblivious to every intangible if you think that it doesn't have far more upsides than downsides. Excellent discussion strategy, bud! "YOU'RE WRONG! HE IS ONE OF THE BEST! THAT IS FINAL! YOU ARE A HOMER IF YOU DO NOT AGREE!" Big and wonderful. Have at it, you!

    Getflaf for Zetter

Hank has intangibles that Getz can never have. Zetterberg shuts down other teams forwards like no one else in the game, (besides Datsyuk)and still finds a way to score during the playoffs, I don't give a rats ass who has more goals in the regular season, it's the playoffs where I judge the Wings. Let the Ducks chase regular season stats. On your second comment, Nick Lidstrom is still a top five defenseman in the league at 40, and top five of all time, to suggest that Getz is on his best day a top fifteen, maybe a top ten forward in this league to suggest that he is better than any one player on our entire roster is just plain stupid. This is Independance Day not April Fools Day... if you weren't confused about the day, perhaps it's the site, you might find this one more to your liking: A better site for you...
