That would definitely be an overpayment, and there's no way that Vancouver is asking for that. As usual St. James is exposing herself as clueless.

*twitch* *twitchtwitch* If Lids is your bar for a number one defenseman, NO ONE IN THE NHL HAS A NUMBER ONE. There are not 29 defensemen better than Niklas Kronwall. Hell, there aren't 15 defensemen currently playing in the NHL that are better than Kronwall. He is a number 1. He is not an elite, hall of fame defenseman. Nor are every other team's save for a few. On the topic of PK, I would love to have him, but not for the price we would pay. He's not "the answer," though his skill set is the boobs. I also agree with others that I don't think he would be able to be coached well by Babs.

Please tell me you're not judging a player on a 2 game sample size. Serenity now!

I wonder if Shero is really willing to sell the farm for Kesler or if he's just trying to scare away potential suitors/drive up the price for rivals. I mean, I can certainly imagine him going nuts and trading half of his farm club for an elite player...but wouldn't it make more sense for that player to be a defenseman than a forward...ya know, because their defense is laughable?

I've heard a year ago how Tatar gets pushed easily,Jurco's one way player and Sheahan would be the 4th liner at best.

I'm not going to preach to the choir, but yes, Ryan Kesler is a super good hockey player. You're correct that he's being underrated here. Is "Pascal Depres" a frankenstein monster made up of Pascal Dupuis and Simon Despres?

If anything I think Kesler is getting underrated in this thread. He dives and is kind of an idiot at times, but the guy has put up two 70+ points seasons, scored over 40 goals before, and is a responsible forward who's tough to play against. I don't expect that he'd put up 70 points on the Wings or pot 40 goals again, but he could be good for 20+ goals and 50+ points. How many players on Detroit currently could do that while playing Selke worthy defense? My biggest concerns with Kesler would be the d-bag factor and his health. I'd hope that in Detroit he'd knock off most of the diving. Though I hear that's already reduced under Tortorella. All in all though it's theoretical. I think it's extremely unlikely he's coming to the Wings.

Their top 6 would be tremendous but guess what if they are running into teams like the Blues, Kings, Bruins or any team with a strong defensive concept things won't end well for Pittsburgh again. It has been proven time and time again defense wins championships. Giving away their best offensive and defensive prospects + a first for a guy who will be an UFA after this year and for sure asking for a raise? If I'm Shero I'd rather look at at the Schenn brothers to bolster the D and O. For his size Kesler is also a big diver and a somewhat primadonna. Just listened to the Insiders and wow Gillis is insane if he doesn't come down on his asking price. Maybe he wants a second Luongo situation..

I'd take him. If you're gonna miss the playoffs, you may as well have fun doing it.

It seems every year we have a new young player who looks good in limited action and is deemed "untouchable" by fans. Then the next year comes, he plays more minutes and gets exposed a bit more or injured and doesn't explode into the "future" player he was predicted as and everyone moves onto the next flavour of the week. It has recently happened with Helm, then Smith, then Nyquist, then Tatar, and now Jurco and Sheahan and I'm sure it will continue on with Pulkkinen, Jankrok and Mantha. It's like clockwork every year... Bottom-line everyone's available for the right price and maybe we all(myself included) have a bad habit of over-valuing our young guys.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

No. No. No.....no We don't need Subban or his attitude, he wouldn't be a good fit, he's a player that comes above the team not the other way around. Babs would hate him...probably why he didn't see any ice time on Team Canada. If Subban was that awesome, Babs would have played him then. There's a reason he gets regularily benched at the end of the game when Montreal is in the lead. He's absolutely not the answer we are looking for on defense. I also think they got it wrong that he was the best defenseman last year.

If that's the asking price, I'd be strongly compelled to take it. Only thing is, if we lose Helm for another Center, while we upgrade the position we don't solve our current dilemma of not having enough good centers healthy. I agree with Holland about no rentals, but he should absolutely be aggressive about anyone else. I'd part with picks easily, since the draft will be weak and the Wings will finish somewhere in the middle of the pack. We have a lot of prospects, so if one of them gets us a legit top 6 or top 4 guy right now, you do it. The injuries to Datsyuk and Z only make it more imperative that we make a move, not less. Even with everyone healthy, the team still needs changes and additions. So make them now, since there are some legitimately good choices available. This year's deadline is better than previous ones because there are actually good players available, so don't wait for the off-season to upgrade somewhere. And as for Cammalleri, he may be small, but he gets to the dirty areas, doesn't he? And he snipes. I think he's like Tatar. Small but he plays big.

A lot of other teams would easily offer more than that for him in a trade. And we'd have to re-sign him for at least $6-7 million per. While Subban's an extremely talented player, there are too many question marks about his attitude and defensive zone coverage.

Are we really in for Kesler?!

I heard last night that Kessel only had one nut and didn't start a thread about it.

Detroit Red Wings Trade Rumors: Dustin Byfuglien [WIIM] I've said it before and I'll say it again: we should be in on Byfuglien. We need more right-handed players - he's right-handed. We need a top-four offensive defenseman who can be lethal on the PP - that's him. We need a top-six power forward who can park his ass in front of the net - also him. We need to get bigger, tougher, more physical - him. We need a guy who isn't a rental - him again. We need at least one of the Jets' 9,000 players who could potentially do wonders for us - him. There are some concerns about him, but that's the whole reason why he'd be traded - and possibly for a reasonable price - in the first place. We're not getting Duncan Keith or Alex Ovechkin. And, again, standing pat is not a recipe for significant improvement and winning one more Cup with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. It's praying that some rookies can be the difference between a second-round exit and the Stanley Cup, all while our core gets older every day. On that note: I'm very happy that we're in on Erhoff. Kesler's price is about what I'd expected. That's Helm/Sheahan, Sproul/Ouellet, and a 1st. If any one of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss were healthy, I'd say it's absolutely, positively not happening. But, fact is, we could really use a top-six center. (And if we get healthy down the middle, Kesler's able and willing to play RW.)

That's a fair POV I just think at the end of the day trading Helm is beyond unwing like.

Did you say yoots? What is a yoot?
  18. 2 points
no we need Defense too not another diver and one who will take away our biggest assests

weiss? that's like vancouver adding a piece. no one wants that contract.

Yeah, but recent Buffalo & St.Louis trade is the one of the better Hockey trades in years. It's not impossible, you just need 2 non-greedy and realistic GM's.
  21. 2 points
GM's have gotten so greedy lately that most trades have become one-sided. I miss trades where both teams come out happy and not with one GM feeling like he stepped on a flaming bag of s***. Too bad the Hockey trade that Holland is looking for has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I don't think the asking price for Kesler is shocking we are talking about Gillian here. A guy who rather makes his organization and the involved player look bad instead of accepting a fair deal. Kesler is not Toews or Crosby so yeah two top prospects and a first rounder is not gonna happen. Tsn is really hyping this thing up sadly also their last trade deadline f*** you Rogers

step away from the psilocybin mushrooms, friend. you're clearly not in a normal state of mind.

If he says no to Sutter, Pouliot a 1st and 3rd for Kesler, than he's as dumb as we know he is. There's your gritty 3rd line commander and one hell of an offensive Dman.
