Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

I've stopped reading these posts on a frequent basis because of the negativity spewed all the time. All you naysayers must be NHL legends.

Anyway, here is the TSN scouting report:

Assets Is a very smart player from the back end. Knows when to pinch in from the point and owns a hard, low shot. Possesses tremendous size and reach.

Flaws Has had a hard time grasping the physical aspect of the NHL. At his size, he's always expected to be far more aggressive than he is.

Career potential No. 5 or 6 defenseman.

Why? Cross has 5 inches and 30 pounds on Rivers, Rivers doesn't hit and isn't much of a penalty-killer, while Cross does (occasionally) and is.

Maybe Rivers' one lonesome assist this season is proof of his offensive firepower.

Unless Cory Cross has progressed significantly from when I saw him play all the time in TO, I'll take Jamie Rivers thank you very much. You are underselling Rivers, IMO. He was a better depth d-man than he got credit for. The fact is, and I repeat for the thousandth time, Cross could not hold down a spot on the worst defensive squad in the league.

Anyways, though acquiring Cory Cross is indeed pretty insigificant, the fact that at the end of the day we shipped Jamie Rivers and a fourth out for Cross and a seventh kinda perplexes me. What was Holland hoping to accomplish?

The Pens are in a position where they are just stacking draft picks, to get a 4th round pick is like gold to them right now.

yes and they should replay the interview within the next hour

Hopefully they'll replay it. When I clicked on the link, an error page came up. I'm assuming its over.

What did Holland say?

Basicly he said, we're doin fine as we've been all year, we can't afford to make a huge move right now, we added some depth, and If the elitist wing fans don't like it they can go root for Edmonton or Nashville.

What did Rivers ever do to convince you he was worth anything? Myself, I've never been too happy with his play. As for Cross, there's lots of instances where players just don't fit with the teams they're on. He was perfectly decent in his past stops in Edmonton, Toronto, and Tampa Bay.

To CGY: 2006 4th RD draft pick - To NJ: C Jason Wiemer

We could use Wiemer

I doubt CGY would give him to us even if we asked.

Willie Mitchell ended in Dallas...

Roloson in Edmonton...

Anything is possible...

Exactly Gulo, there are alot of teams not interested in helping the Wings remain on top of the league, the Wings have a target on their back.

Listen, I'm not too happy with dealing a 4th rounder for a nobody, but let me place you in this scenario:

Kronwall and Chelios get hurt (GOD FORBID). Who are you going to bring in to get the third line minutes? Rivers? Who's been perfectly horrible this year? Or Cross, who's proven he can be a warm body and leave the ice just as it was when he crawled over the boards.
