BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Better question...Why would Tubby want to go to Minnesota? At least at U-M you can say the program has some big upside, but I don't think you can say that about Minnesota. There's less pressure in Minnesota. Hell, if they have a practice facility, they're already ahead of UM
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 There's less pressure in Minnesota. Hell, if they have a practice facility, they're already ahead of UM No they're not. Is Detroit, Saginaw, or Flint located in Minnesota? Those 3 cities are hot beds for basketball talent. There is enough talent for U-M and MSU to both be top 15 teams every season. BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 (edited) Tubby Smith to Minnesota?! ARE YOU TAKING A NAP MARTIN?! Tubby wasn't ever going to Michigan. He can go to Minny, go .500 every year (his career winning percentage is north of .760 BTW) and practically write his own paycheck. He wouldn't be able to do that at Michigan. Oh and Sean Miller of Xavier just re-upped with them through 2016. Edited March 23, 2007 by BuckeyeWingsfan80
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Michigan is not a great school for a coach to go to. Here is why: #1 Michigan is a football school. #2 Tons of pressure to succeed even tho the history of Michigan basketball hasn't been that great. Great team every once in a while. #3 Michigan still has a black eye from recruiting violations during the fab five era. #4 Michigan State is recruiting the same players from the same state. Tubby Smith doesn't have that much competition in Minnesota unlike Michigan. On the flip side, Minnesota is a hockey school so there is less pressure to deliver. Michigan blew a great candidate in a head coach today.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 F****NG REFS!! How the hell do you take off 1.1 seconds off the clock on that stupid lazy pass? *tears up his bracket sheet* there it is offical. With Memphis knocking out Texas A&M, I am done.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Yuck. Tennessee, an SEC team, up 12-10 on Ohio State, a Big 10 team. If Tennesse end up winning this I'll be physically ill ... to say the least.

Tubby Smith doesn't have that much competition in Minnesota unlike Michigan. On the flip side, Minnesota is a hockey school so there is less pressure to deliver. Michigan blew a great candidate in a head coach today. Plus, from the few things I've read, Tubby basically gets to build the program his way. I get the impression that A) the UM admin doens't really care about basketball, they think they're a football school first. Schools like Florida and OSU have shown there's no reason you can't be both. Hell, even is a two sport school, once every 6 years when MSU has a good football team. Plus, everyone knows the facilities for UM basketball suck. Despite what they may be saying, I have a tough time believing UM is going to be expanding the big house and bringing Crisler up to the 21st century. Plus, the fanbase is pretty apathetic to basketball. I think a lot of that has to do with the large UM fanbase that never attended the school (I'm being serious here, not taking shots). They don't have the connection, and therefore don't care quite as much. If UM had a program like MSU, Crisler would be filled with mullets and the smell of meth (ok, now I'm taking shots ). Or worse yet, their football fans are the "I cheer for UM in football and MSU in basketball." There aren't many people lower than that. Reading a few comments from Martin makes me think that UM is going to try to get by how they always do. They're going to figure that because they're UM, people are going to be beating down the door to coach there, despite the poor facilities and fanbase. The AD doesn't seem to care as long as the basketball team doesn't get in trouble and doesn't distract from football. UM could be a good job, but as of right now, I don't think it is. BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 well at this point I'd usually be slamming Ohio State's effort, but Tennessee is just hitting everything they throw up. This is looking kinda similar to the game in Columbus, except I don't think Tennessee will stop shooting 3s like they did in Columbus. Eh nevermind. They lost Conley to foul trouble early and I don't think they can pull out of this one. Screw that, now they have both Conley AND Oden in Foul Trouble. Hell better yet, they've completely forgotten how to play defense without Oden in there.... Not a good night, the Wings can't score and neither can the Buckeyes. Looks like I picked a bad time to quit amphetamines

BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Vols playing very smart tonight. Hopefully they can keep this up in the 2nd half. Smart my ass. Ohio State is playing so stupidly that they'd make a High School team look good at this point. Honestly at this point I'd leave Oden in so he can go ahead and foul out and get on a plane to the Celtics before their next game.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 A quick note on Tubby Smith: A side benefit of him leaving Kentucky is that Kentucky is one of the competitors for five-star recruit Patrick Patterson, who is also considering Duke, Florida, West Virginia, Wake Forest, and - you guessed it - Virginia Apparently Patterson is pretty surprised and not entirely pleased that Smith no longer coaches at UK. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 OSU is getting their ass kicked, and I love it. I bet my friend (who has the Vols in the final 4) that OSU would win. I don't care if I lose ten bucks!!

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Greg ODIN! First off, its Greg ODEN. The Buckeyes got lucky yet again and that game pretty much sums up my bracket for this year. Lots of 1 pt should have been, could have been losses.

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 I'm glad I won ten bucks for that OSU game, but I'm pissed they keep dodging bulletts. OSU deserves to go out. Am I the only one who thinks it looks like Oden plays with no passion or emotion?

Am I the only one who thinks it looks like Oden plays with no passion or emotion? No I'm pretty sure he plays with emotion and with urgency, but he doesn't show it like the others. Remember I've seen most every Buckeye game this year and I have seen every game he is in. Besides which, I'll take his defensive presence any day of the week. Offense will come for him (he's shown some signs this year), but defense and timing, like he both has, can't really be taught.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Typical Ohio State...I had friends calling me freaking out at halftime. I told them to relax, we'll win...obviously I was beginning to wonder if this was the time they didnt...but we've seen them do this all year. Tennessee couldnt miss a shot in the first half, any team would have been down with that kind of shooting. So we just kept fighting and closed the gap within 10 minutes of the second half. It was a great game and the more talented team won. Winning games like this only helps us.

Pretty much I just watched the second half in my chair at home and enjoyed it. I was to the point that if they could get the deficit down to somewhere around 10, I'd consider it a learning experience and would wait until next year. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted March 24, 2007 It's too bad that Ohio State and Memphis are facing off this early. If this was the final game, yeah I'd still be pulling for the Buckeyes, but if they lost at least it's to Memphis. I abhor every other team still remaining.
