wingsfan75 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Way to think out of the box a bit. I don't know what kind of salary he'd command but he's not a terrible player to pick up. It all depends on cost. He hasn't won a cup yet as far as I can think. The hunger and desire might be enough to push him to be a decent rental. Plus, the Cheilli connection could work in our favor. His contract this season was only for 1.2 million and that is with incentives built in so he would cost next to nothing.
theman19 47 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 i'd take him only if lang was gone. There's no doubt he'd be hungry but i just don't see it happening

TimeBinder 28 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 What's his contract? If he's had at a good price - why not- he's got grit that everyone talks about...just dont' give up too much.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 I love Roenick, but if we pick him up as a "big" pickup, I'd be upset. I wouldn't be too upset about a straight up Williams for Roenick trade, or maybe Lilja and a low pick for Roenick.

I love JR and all but he would also do next to nothing for us. Edited February 18, 2007 by superstarsingh
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 This is not the type of move I'd like to see the Wings make. 7 goals and 12 assists in 52 games? And I think those who point to his grit haven't seen him play the last 2 seasons. Nothing to see here...move on.
gowings1985 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Roenick Blows...What the hell is he gonna do for the wings, with his 19 points in 50 something games on the damn coyotes. He sucks and I wouldn't trade and old goalie trapper for him, I went to the game a couple weeks ago vs. coyotes and he sucks, all he did was injure Markov with a cheap hit, J.R. IS USELESS HERE!!!! Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 I would totally take him if just for the entertainment value. That being said, I would want Lang and Willams both traded before hand and Smolinski out of reach before I would consider it. Also anything beyond a last round pick might be reaching, maybe we can get him for a dollar! I could see him being on our fourth line and being the experienced guy with two youngins. Him between Jiri and Filpula or Samuelsson might work.
metalwinger_13 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 roenick would be useless here. and i woudlnt even give up williams for him.. id maybe give up a last round draft choice.. but thats pushing it.. hes lost it and runningon fumes right now.. has been for the past what -24 years now.. hes done.. and why the hell is everyone wanting to trade lang. ya he migh tbe over paid but he was signed when they were handing out outrageous price contracts. he fits this tema well and one of our best playoff performers.. keep him. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 I don't care what anyone thinks or says. I'd take Roenick in a heartbeat. I think the Wings would be PERFECT for him and would definitely fire him up. I think he'd be great to have for the post season. At least he'd stick up for the players. The guy's not the same player he use to be but he's still capable of throwing his body around, and changing the momentum of a game. I've always been a JR fan and I'd LOVE to have his kind of character around the Wings. Get Guerin or Tkachuk and Roenick. That'd be great.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Acquiring Roenick kind of reminds me of when we acquired Thomas. Yes, they are different players, but for some reason it takes me back to then. Thomas was older, and we weren't sure what he'd provide, but he stepped it up for us. I think Roenick would do the same. Keep in mind Roenick would be on the third or fourth line, so he would be helping out. I think he would be a good mentor to have on a line with Flip and Huds, or he would be good on a line with Maltby and Draper.... In either case, he's feisty, WANTS to win a cup already, and we should make a move for him. Wings trade for Nolan, Roenick, and Laraque..... Sounds pretty damn good to me.
