bringback91 2 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I'm not particularly fond of it either. Every team's fans say the other team sucks, I don't care what name is on the sweater. That's what they're supposed to say. Nothing new there. What do they expect them to yell? "Red Wings Suck! Except for the Hall of Famers!?" It's neither here nor there, but we do own the Preds this year, that's a fact. esteef BTW, the OJ comment is a little over the line. It's a bit different though. It's not a planned out, every game s*** talking chant. Boo the team, boo a goal they score, whatever floats your boat I guess, but something that's systematic and planned out is stupid and makes them look as such. I'm in favor of cheering more for your own team, than wasting energy on trashing the other one. It's not only the team, city, and goalie they try to trash it's the refs and linesmen. Now don't get me wrong, I can't stand most of the refs either, but to boo a linesman for an obvious offside, not only booing but chanting "ref you suck!" numerous times for a percived missed call (in a game where your team was let go many a time) is childish and silly. The antics that crowd participate in only fuel the perception and stero-types that seem to bother so many of them. Sure I didn't like Forsberg and the av's, and I'd say they "suck" but when I'm at a game I'm too busy cheering for my team, doing the wave, "Lets go Red Wings!" chants and the like to act like a four year watching WWF wrestleing. I'd like my team to first prove something, get off welfare, and actually beat the team, before I started with the "YOU SUCK" nonsense. As for the fans who trash obviously great teams with signs that make no sense and razzing great players when they're beating your team... sometimes hockey kharma is a harsh mistress. Remember the "Red Wings Suck" t-shirts the Avs handed out in the '02 WCF to Avs fans sitting behind the Wings' bench? What a farce! How stupid did THAT look on TV, given what happened? That, and Hartley's stick-measuring antics, and Patty dropping the puck in his own goal, along with the 7-0 drubbing game 7. All hilarious - makes me laugh, still, to think of all that. It's kind of hard to explain. It's like switching schools, or moving to a new town. You never like it at first, but the more you get to know the people, and the little nuances, the more you appreciate it. That's kind of how I see fanbases of pro-sports teams. I hear how horrible Nashville fans are all the time, and what a classless organization we have, and I just don't see it. But before I started reading LGW, I really wasn't very fond of Wings fans either. I thought it was a bunch of bandwagoners, and I thought the Wings were the Yankees of the NHL. But with time, I realized that there are a lot of great Wings fans, and that you've got an awesome orginization. If anyone who criticizes Nashville came and spent some time here, came in with an open mind (thats the key in most areas of life) and took a look at what's going on here, you might just find a bunch of great people who love their team in a wonderful city that hosts a pretty darned good franchise. Sure our coach looks like a troll, and our color commentator seems to be drunk during every broadcast. We've got an inuit running around hitting everything that moves, a goalie who looks like a terrorist and another like a caveman. And we've got some chants in our arena that you won't find in too many pro sports venues... but that's who we are, and I don't think anyone who seriously takes the time and effort to find out what Predators hockey is about could possibly come away with so much criticism. What makes Nashville fans look silly is their indiscriminant boo'ing and moaning and razzing of players who quite simply don't "deserve" it. It's ridiculous, and it makes the fans there look really dumb, taken as a whole. I am sure there are good, knowledgeable fans there who are embarrassed by the behavior of the rest of the herd, however. Too bad they get tarred with one brush. It's enough that we can laugh at them, and local journalists recognize it and call them out for it. Maybe in time, the Preds' fanbase will grow out of this immature phase, eh? They flood every arena and yell "You Suck" at every chance they get. I always like it when their fans boo some team then get destroyed, like by Pittsburgh and Ottawa . Who sucks now Leafs fans? The author is right, if it weren't for the likes of Detroit, et al, the Preds franchise would be one of those looking for a new home. Enjoy your team while they last, because once they stop winning, there will be NO support from the community and then you can stop explaining to us why everyone else sucks. ...BTW has anyone heard anything from any AVES fans recently? Seems that since now that they really do, to coin a Nashville phrase, "SUCK" there is no point in anyone comng on here and telling us how much we "SUCK." I can remember all the Colorado trolls that came on here telling us to stick our History up our arses, and Detoilet sucks because Colorado has the best fans and the best team and they will NEVER stop winning, then they said something along the lines of they are creating their own history and the AVES will always be better than the Wings, and so on... well, look now, no AVES in the playoffs, no fans to deal with. Soon as your owners attempt to re-sign your UFA's and claim they cannot pay them what they are worth, they too will bolt and soon your team WILL be dwelling in the cellar. Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I couldn't agree more with every point, except one. 30-35k new arena? I really dont ever want to see that, because it will ruin it for everyone. When you make arenas that big your worst seats are horrible. The furthest back seat at the Joe are still good seats and cost 22 bucks a seat. A bigger stadium will not make seats cheaper, in fact most new stadiums increase their seat costs even with more seats available. I tell you what 35k seat stadium that last row would be twice as far away and cost twice as much. JLA forever folks. The mother is half empty every game anyways...
