haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 I can't believe we're still talking about attendance when everyone knows what kind of economy we have right now in our city/state.19,000 isn't enough?? I mean seriously DO NOT compare us to CALGARY,EDMONTON,VANCOUVER ETC,HOCKEY IS ALL THEY HAVE!!!! They are going to sell out.The attendance doesn't bother me,it's game 1 for God's sake. Yeah, but I thought the Pistons have been selling out, which would mean the economy isn't really the factor. The Wings not selling out a playoff game is a big deal to me. They have been since the team was any good. Playoff tickets were impossible to come by. Now there's empty seats??
FinWing 26 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Oh, Holmqvist, you f@#%ing suck! Way to give the puck to the Devils. No kidding, Tampa deserved to win but thanks to him didn't.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 I guess the Flames at the end of the game were "giving us a message", but to me that's bulls***. I hope by the end of this series to see Stuart wallowing in a pool of his own blood. Same for Iginla. I love what a tough guy he is picking fights with Zetterberg. By the way Flames, St. Louis lawyers should be calling you soon. You stole their patented move. You know, the one where you can't play with them, so you resort to goonery, by taking on the Wings skill players with your supposed tough guys.
DetroitNativePride 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 People don't want to spends $$$ when everyone is figuring that Detroit won't make it through next week. Once the team starts rolling in the playoffs people will pay to see it live. I wonder if the TV ratings are down just as much? I'm assuming that people are still watching it... for free. Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 The Wings could always pull a Nashville and have $19 dollar seats. I mean, obviously it isn't realistic, but wouldn't that be nice?

Zenithian 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Tonight's display by the Red Wings was absolute, total domination in all facets of the game. At no point was Calgary in this game; if not for Miikka Kiprusoff, the score could have easily been 8 or 9 to 1. With the way they played on this particular night, the Flames didn't even deserve to skate on the same ice as the Wings - not only were they horrible on offense and defense, but they tried to goon it up when the game was far out of reach. I said in my post this morning that I felt some uncertainty about this game and/or series, and that most (if not all) questions would be answered at the end of Game 1. I think the Wings resoundingly gave their answer - if Calgary doesn't make some MAJOR adjustments and quickly, not only are they going to lose, but they will be humiliated. Bear in mind we didn't even have Bertuzzi. At any rate, great win for the WIngs!
rivieraillusions 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 I'm not sure if you guys were thatgood or we were that bad. Very disappointed in the Flames tonight. this has been a Jekyl and Hyde team all year....hopefully Hyde shows up Sunday. Don't sell the Flames short, Detroit dominated from beginning to end. The only response Calgary had was to goon it up. Our defense was stifling and theirs . . . not so much.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 True, but I'd guess its more likely that the majority of people who declined playoff tickets were individuals, instead of corporations. Why would anyone make fun of Preds fans. Everyone knows we don't have a rivalry with them... I think the cheapest ticket was $63 which was probably top of the upper bowl. Not sure what lower bowl seats are. $63-$145. Without taxes/service fees.

Isn't there a huge discrpancy in price though? Also, I thought I read somewhere that Pistons season ticket holders don't have to pay in advance like the Wings season ticket holders do. What are the prices of Pistons tickets? I get what you mean, though. Hopefully it's a wake up call to the Wings orginization that they need to be a bit more fan-friendly. Then again, 19,000 at $100 is better than 20,000 at $50.

Jiggy_12 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Alot of talk about Bertuzzi coming back to play in game 2, don't forget Robyn Regehr should dress as well. Regehr has a ton of value to us. Hopefully the rest of the team can pick it up though, this was an abomination. I'm not liking Stuart so much right now. I want Andrew Ference back.

RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Yep, I'm with Harold. The fact that the Wings didn't sell out tonight has really ruined all of this for me. It's shocking that, in Detroit, we can't fill a building for a playoff game. Talk all you want about the economy and ticket prices, it doesn't take away from the bigger picture. I'm not sure why this affects me the way it does, but it makes me sad. I mean, listen to us. "Oh, well, the game on Sunday will be sold out, I think." Jesus Christ, I hope so. I guess I just miss the old days.

The Wings not selling out a playoff game is a big deal to me. They have been since the team was any good. Playoff tickets were impossible to come by. Now there's empty seats?? I agree that it's a big deal that the tickets aren't sold out... but comparing it to the Pistons is tough because the Pistons have been making it a lot farther than Detroit (edit... Red Wings). In the past few seasons the Pistons have made it to the Conference Finals, the NBA finals, won the Championship, and madeit to the Conference Finals the year before. The Wings, on the other hand, have only made it out of the first round once in the past 5 years. There is a different expecation. I guarentee that the Joe will be sold out once the town realizes that the team is for real. Edited April 13, 2007 by DetroitNativePride
Lollipop 8 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 I've gotta say that I was really disappointed in Iginla tonight...how embarassing for the Flames to be represented by a Captain who acts like a 3rd grader. I can't imagine Lidstrom acting the same way, and I'm glad for that. >_> That being said, I'm trying to find the right balance between cocky and humility now...I hope the Wings will find that balance too and be confident while still showing they want to win it all on Thursday. Cockiness could be no good.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) I'm not liking Stuart so much right now. You and me both. Back on the topic of the game for a moment... This was definitely one team at their best and another at their worst tonight. The Wings caught some good bounces, to boot. It's also true that they absolutely kicked ass and made it look easy, but the Flames will be back and better than ever for Game 2. With that said: 2-0, I'm looking at you! Go Wings! Hopefully the rest of the team can pick it up though, this was an abomination. Yeah, Regehr is good, but adding him to a defence corp that was brutal will only make them mediocre. Adding Bert to a forward corp that was hustling and lethal will only make them that much better. I'm not liking Stuart so much right now. I want Andrew Ference back. I personally thought that was a bad trade.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Re: ticket sales, I was listening to Karsch and Gator today and they were discussing how this game likely would not sell out. They scoped the rest of the league, and the Wings have the 2nd highest "lowest price" tickets of all the playoff teams. In other words, if you compare the cheapest tickets in every arena, the Wings charge the 2nd most (I think Vancouver was 1st). The Wings cheapest seats are $63 for round 1. In Dallas, you can get them for something like $13.
