GAME 1 (4/12): Red Wings 4, Flames 1

Hey, thanks!

This team has lowered my expectations significantly. Its not the same type of that made Calgary fall in love with their Flames in 2004. That lunchbucket crew was just so gosh darn inspiring! Its easier now to look at this team objectively, instead of getting emotionally wrapped up in it.

We can sympathize with that, believe me (hell, look at my avatar...that sums it up pretty well :P) If you look back at GDTs for the Wings over the past couple seasons, we've felt our share of frustrations, objectively looking at the team on ice. It's one thing to be on a high (like we are right now - and believe me, we haven't felt like that often this season), but it's another thing entirely to throw emotion out the window and essentially think like a Vulcan - using logic to really see what's going on with your club.

I'll admit, Calgary doesn't look right. Could be Playfair. Could be a bunch of other factors too. And on the other side of the coin, I haven't seen the Wings play like this in ages. It's a lot to take in.

he looked great! I read in another forum where some commentator was saying no one could be out as long as Hank was and come back and play that well, so he was faking and the Wings were embellishing the injury. I really wonder where these "experts" get off saying crap like that. Not that it doesn't happen ALL the time. It's just sad that some will believe it...

Word. Did they forget all about Forsberg's playoff heroics after missing the entire season in '02? If a player is of great ability, he can be right back in it in no time. Hank is and was.

Couldn't have been Clement, since I remember how much he was gushing over Forsberg after he missed the 2001-02 regular season and reappeared in time for the playoffs...and THAT was a hell of a lot more suspicious than Zetts' injury! :P

EDIT: Dammit, I got beat by two of you? I hate you guys.

So with the Wings winning tonight, I've gathered this much from alot of Flames fans:

Cleary is a dirty player for "running" Kiprusoff

Hasek should be run by a Calgary player in the next game

McGeough won the game for the Wings

Oh, looks like Cheli has a new friend for this series

man oh man.

i am so proud of those Wings tonight.

they all seemed to play great.

idont think cleary got any points tonight, but he played real hard (he did NOT run Kipper)

Dom was solid as ever,. and Hank, wow what can i say? he looked faster, and better than anyone else out there.

Calgary : you run around like a bunch of goons stiring up trouble when you've already lost the game. i hope your team gets annihilated by Z and the gang.

great start the post season :siren:

equal time, there, Edi. I don't know who said it, I read it third hand on another board, but I don't doubt it was said. I refer to any "convenient" hiatus due to injury as a Forsberg Vacation. :D

Oh, you're back in perfect health just in time for the playoffs? How conveeeeenient!! *said in Church Lady voice.*

I agree that great players can come back to form very quickly, and besides, Hank has been working hard behind the scenes, I bet, getting back to speed. This game was just what he needed tonight to get back in the rhythm of playing an actual game.

All you need is love *bum bah dah duh dum* all you need is love, love... love is all you need.

Laughing out loud at those expressions. Cheli's gonna have a sneer pasted to his face the rest of the playoffs. God, I love it.

I missed the first period and a half of this game, and it is nice to see that someone saw what I saw. Cleary, as usual, played hard, mixed things up. I can't wait for Sunday :D ....i love the playoffs.

I take it as a compliment. Most people don't realize how good Zetterberg is because they don't watch him all the time as we do.

There's a picture of Dom and idiot boy too, and Dom is just kinda looking at him like "bring it on kid" :P

Hindsight is 20/20 but... this is a comical pre-game comment from Jim Playfair regarding Homer:

"He won't be a problem," coach Jim Playfair insisted, already sounding annoyed. "He's a competitive player that goes hard to the net. But with the new rules you're not allowed to go hard to the net. So the referees can take care of him. And our defensemen can take care of him."

...One assist and one perfect screen later, who's taking care of who? :D

Tazzer, that picture is great. :) I only hope that now that the pressure for that first goal is off of Datsyuk, he'll start scoring more of those pretty little things.

Also, Dats seemed kinda different tonight. ;p Usually he doesn't celebrate his goals right? He did this little awkward arm pump thing tonight...kinda cute. XD

Well, not quite 58 pages tonight, but not too shabby nonetheless.

With that, I must be off to sleep. Great game tonight, let's hope we get the same grit and determination on Sunday!

GO WINGS!

I believe!! Night, all.... must go recover from 7.5 hours of OTs last night. :) xo looooooo

Let's hope the Flames keep talking. In fact, I'm praying for a, "Burke-in-'02 like outburst" from Sutter.

Sutter isn't the outburst type.

We're more likely to see him have a "cryptic comment burst that reads like a poem"
