As I was assembling my data for this year, I considered the following: at one time, games were called "Home" or "Away". Somewhere along the line, "Away" was replaced by "Road". When this happened, I don't rightly know. I remember photocopying an NHL schedule, from the late 1920's, and the term they used then was "Abroad".

I think my month-old baby cousin might be a werewolf. He has very hairy ears for a baby. (It's all around the outside of his ears, not growing out from the ear canal like old man ear hair.)

On the other hand, he's going to be a Red Wings-loving werewolf if I have my way. I was holding him up to watch the Wings-Leafs game on Saturday night (thank goodness my cousins have NHL Network out in the wilds of rural Illinois) and explaining everything to him as it happened. I know he probably can't even focus on the TV screen* yet, but you can't start too early with these things.

*They have an HDTV! I thought HDTV was overhyped, but after seeing an actual game on it I changed my mind and now want one for myself!

I know what you mean about the HDTV, it's very worth that extra charge because hockey never looked so good! Your nephew will likely lose all that hair on his ears, just like some babies are born with a full head of hair and it falls out that's probably the same deal. Either way I'm sure he's adorable and so glad you're starting him off right by teaching him hockey. :)

He's a perfectly adorable little fuzzy werewolf. laugh.gif I'm sure the little ear hairs will rub off (they're very fine, soft hairs, but the baby just happens to have dark hair), but in the meantime I can tease my cousin about how her baby is going to turn into a wolfpuppy when the moon is full. She's very much a dog person, so this is not as insulting as it might seem.

Aww, that would be so perfect! I think she's got her heart set on having the baby and the dog dressed in matching pumpkin costumes, though.

Oh! The dog is a large-ish black lab mix, so if the baby goes as a werewolf, they could be Remus Lupin and Sirius Black from Harry Potter! laugh.gif

That is cool. All you need is to have a parent wear antlers, and borrow a rat (or other small rodent) for the night.

That would be so perfect! Unfortunately, my cousin seems disinclined to go along with my plan. I'll have to lobby for next year.

It's amazing how a certain moment just stays with you. I was just thinking about something that happened a year ago and it brought me to tears again just like it did when it happened, even though I'm over it those feelings are still strong enough to take me back.

I still cry over a friend who died suddenly 11 years ago, even today, I tear up thinking about him. I don't even cry over my parents anymore, but I do when I think about Garey.

Did you ever wish you were the opposite gender?

I used to wish that so I could play hockey and football and wouldn't have had to take home ec. It was more wishing that I could get out of my societal stereotyped activities than wishing to actually be the other gender.

Now I'm glad I'm not. When you get old, it's a lot less of a sucks to ask for help with lifting or things like that if you're a girl. The older I get, the more help I need. I'm sure when I'm actually old, I'll be needing to play the old lady card. It will come in handy for tire changes and that sort of thing.

I'm glad I learned to do what I need despite being a girl in a world where it was assumed that your husband will do it for you, so you don't have to, but I'm also glad that there are still young people who will help an old person if needed.

I'm thinking of this because the first part of your post made me think of my friend Jodie, and there was a time she was coming to work and got a flat. She had no sooner gotten out and opened the trunk than a car with 3 college guys stopped and changed it and refused to take anything for it.

She was another tough old bat like me, but she said that being a little old lady had its perks. She was just shy of 70 at that time, and could still have changed that tire if she'd had to, but she was grateful for those boys so she didn't have to.

Blah, blah, blah. I'm blathering today.

Good for those college kids! It seems like younger people do not care to help anyone but themselves in the world today. It's always nice to see people that actually care about others. But I'm sure your friend is a good person and I believe that you attract good things when you do good things.

In the "Entertainment" section of the 22/10/2011 issue of the Toronto Star, they used the following premise: William Shatner was allowed to be the Editor of that section this week. As a result, every article had something to do with Mr. Shatner and what he's doing: a new book, a new album (that's right), a whirlwind two week tour, etc, etc. I never have, nor ever will be a fan a Star Trek, but I find him to be very interesting (did you know he's 80?); someone who now seems to be out of work for very long. Some of what was in the paper is also found at their website here. Unfortunately, the online interview by Rob Salem doesn't include the story of him wearing a Shatner mask when he took his children out for Halloween. Did you know: instead of being paid money for his commercials for Priceline, he was paid in stock options. Last year, experts figured he had earned two hundred million dollars on that alone, before he sold it off.
