The Ducks winning the Cup has already taken a back seat to Paris Hilton's release.

I hope they enjoyed their 10 hours in the spotlight.

For California it's about as big a deal as an indoor lacrosse team winning the title.

 so true, so true.

Congratulations to Anaheim.

God...it must really suck to be a Los Angeles Kings fan right now. Zero Stanley Cups since 1967 and your neighbors in the OC gets Lord Stanley in 14 years.

One of these days, a historic NHL team will win the Stanley Cup. I can't imagine what a victory parade in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Philadephia or in New York (for the Rangers) would be like. I thought the crowd in Ottawa was ten times louder than Anaheim. THE BETTER TEAM WON AND THE BETTER FANS LOST. All well...the NHL doesn't award Cups to fans after all.

That's for sure. The NHL does very llittle to reward its fans these days.

So, what's this, the fifth year in a row that the Stanley Cup Final has either featured the Wings or the team that knocked them out of the playoffs?

You mean like what happened in Detroit 5 years ago?

Cool pic.

What's the word on Giguere's son? While I've watched all but game 3 of the Finals since the Wings got eliminated, I really haven't read a lot of hockey news in general and of just skimmed through some of the major sports sites online a few times, so I'm out of any loops.

I read his eye is something that probably isn't life threatening, but still unfortunately isn't going to go away anytime soon. Hopefully I am incorrect there and can get some more understanding of the situation.

Congrats to Giguere (save the large pad jokes, that joke got stale a long time ago), congrats to his family, and congrats for also having a new baby boy that should be healthy for the most part it seems. *crosses fingers*

Maxime's condition is not life threatening. He will have to have surgery as he grows older but it's nothing major. He can see out of his left eye. When I saw that picture, I started crying again.

I cried through the entire ceremony. My dad called from some country in the Middle East (he's in the military) and listened to me crying. I'm so sad that the year I move away the Ducks win the Cup. That was so amazing. I cried for about an hour. It was so beautiful. I don't care what you have to say about our team 'cheating' their way there, because they didn't.

Thank you for the congrats. I personally appreciate them. My bible study leader is a die hard Wings fan, so I know how hard it is for you guys. Good luck to your Wings next season (except against my Ducks, of course ;))

The emotion is incredible... I was cried in '97 & '98 (Vladdy). Congrats on the win... it's an amazing ride ain't it?

Congrats to the Ducks. They were a great team from start to finish.

I was also very happy to see Teemu get his name on the Cup. He's a class act and he deserves it.

However, I still can't give Giggy props. When he gave the CBC an interview without his upperbody gear on I just about laughed my kids awake. My 4 year old son has wider shoulders than him and yet he looks like a damn robot with his gigantic equipment on. What a joke. Even my wife was shocked. She asked "That's Giguere?!?!?!?". She couldn't believe what a frail birdlike man he looked like.

If that doesn't send a message to the competition committee I don't know what will.

He is a great positional goalie, but without that defense in front of him and without that mountain of padding he'd be nothing.

Congrats to the rest of the Ducks. You earned it.

Word on the street is that if he doesn't sign with us he may be coming your way...since you guys don't have OUR defense, looks like you won't be getting the Cup next year either.

Oh fighting is so bad, PIM are so bad, those teams don't go anywhere, you want your goon's go to the 70's and 80's, wah wah wah. Go give Don Cherry a kiss. Huh.

The Anaheim Ducks LED THE NHL this season in FIGHTING MAJORS, BY FAR with 71 fights, about 20+ ahead of the 2nd place team.

The Ducks also led the playoffs in fighting majors, and led the regular season in PIM for all teams!! Burke and Carlyle stressed this as being a key to their success. TOUGH, in your face hockey, Canadian style, taking NO s***, and forcing the issue.

Congrats Ducks... see ya next season

I agree 100%. This was a win for all fight fans and physical hockey in general. Its for all the nay sayers who say you cant win with a guy like Shawn Thornton in your lineup and would rather have a Josh Langfeld type instead. Anaheim wanted a tough as nails team and stuck to it the whole way....just when you thought they couldnt get any tougher, they go and grab Brad May as their only acquisition at the deadline. They even played Shawn Thornton in the playoffs. They took a guy in Travis Moen who wasnt much in Chicago, and developed him into undoubtedly one of the more valuable 3rd liners you'll find. I absolutely loved the team attitude instilled by Burke and Carlyse. Almost everyone up and down their lineup played with an edge. Even Teemu Selanne showed that attitude, not physically but remember him talking up the Beauchemin/Iginla fight last year as a key reason his team won the series? Its like he became "North Americanized" i guess you could say and Ive liked him ever since hearing that comment!

I do not agree with this comment on the "southern markets" at all, there are probably more people from the Midwest in Los Angeles alone, than in all of the Midwest....Think about that one for a bit.

We are crazy about hockey.

Not to mention how badly the Lakers have been lately, the Dodgers and the Galaxy as well, plus we do not have a professional footbal team....kinda thnk about it, neither does Detroit, oops, sorry about that one! I take it back,,,,

My wife's from Michigan though, and she's a bit upset about the Wings not being in the SC, but very happy the Ducks won it. :P

In case you did not know this, California has more people than all of Canada...... <_<

The LA Kings would be an exception, since LA is such a huge city. Not to mention the fact that a ton of actors like hockey, and all the northern transplants.

Anaheim doesn't do it for me. It just doesn't. The city is nothing more than a suburb of LA to begin with. If the Kings would have won the year (a long shot, I know :P ) I would still be upset, because I am in no way a Kings fan, but at least something in the way of a big market would have won again. Tampa and Raleigh/Durham are both big cities, but that's about as far from a hockey market as you can get. LA at least has some good history behind, starting with the "Triple Crown Line" and the years that Gretzky was there.

I'm just not big on the Ducks winning. If you guys can show me that the fans will care about winning the Cup at least one week after it happened, then maybe I'll re-think my thoughts. As of right now though, I'm not very happy about it.

Hmm, bitter in victory, HMom? This is SO not like you, the rest of this topic (which I haven't read) must be pretty sucky. Apologies to you and other Ducks fans re any negativity.

Strictly speaking, the Wings didn't even have THEIR defense this year: the loss of Matts and Kronner ended up being bigger than anyone really expected. This is NOT an excuse, because our depth should have been better-enabled to absorb the loss of these two key players. *shrug* Oh well...

Jiggy won't be wearing red next year. We cannot afford him, he doesn't want to come here, etc etc.

Conga Rats to Anaheim. May this be the beginning (or, as you've suggested instead), the continuation of a solid

hockey tradition in SoCal.

(one favor, however: pleasepleaseplease dinna let your littles ever think that Pppprr-- ehmm, The Evil Sith Lord (TM OsGod) is a proper role model. Give them Teemu or Scott or Andy Mc instead

Pathetic.

There are no "fans" in California. Having lived there half my life, I can honestly say that there are no "fans" in California.

Pathetic.

Quoted for truth... testify brother!

I might be a bad sport for this but I got no congrats for the Ducks. After watching them play a few times, they looked like 3 checking lines and one scoring line. And the Michelin man in net. Now why did they win? Execution- if you're skills are limited but what you CAN do you can execute at the level they did, well we all see the result. Unfortunately it's about as exciting as watching a football team that runs the ball 99% of the time. Oh yeah and wins the championship.....

This is a season to forget....

I was also thinking it must suck to be Paul Kariya right now. He bolted out of Anaheim - the face of the franchise - to try to ride to a Cup with the Avs. That backfired - he couldn't go back to the Ducks, and he winds up in a dungeon of hockey in Columbus (sorry Jackets but its true). Now he's watching his best buddy Teemu lift the Cup without him with his former team......now there's someone that should be depressed. ;)

Good that he should eventually be all right. While I bet it was hard for Giguere to miss time early in the playoffs, it's great to know that he put family first over job.

I cried through the entire ceremony. My dad called from some country in the Middle East (he's in the military) and listened to me crying. I'm so sad that the year I move away the Ducks win the Cup. While I certainly don't think much of a small bunch of the Duck players, pretty much Pronger and Perry, the Ducks did deserve to win it in spite of what a lot of us might have to say in here right now about the Ducks or a lot of their players.

I'm still disappointed the Wings were so damn close to going to the Finals but not able to pull it off, I'm not bitter or angry at the rest of the Ducks, that's just not healthy. I pretty much put that aside the day after the Wings were eliminated. I mean what can you do, the Ducks just did enough with less chances to move on, it sucks for us but I can't control the outcome of the game.

Some of the bitterness and posts about the Ducks cheating or playing cheap and dirty has gone completely overboard in here over the past few days unfortunately, but hopefully after a few days all will be calm in here and posters will give the Ducks their fair due and fair amount of credit for doing what they had to do to win the Cup (minus Pronger, we're gonna be upset at him for a while ).

Keep soaking the championship in, cuse the celebrations don't last long. ;)
