Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 So my favorite goalie of all time is back! This made my offseason! And like that quote we were talking about earlier, he just loves to play, granted he made more last season than I will ever see in my life. However, the love of the game brings him back that's awsome.

Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted June 14, 2007 As long as his age doesnt finally catch up to him we will be just fine. Hell, if he can play the way he did this season, we're in damn good shape between the pipes. The Dominator is back baby!

lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) This sucks! Hasek is an ass-clown! I'm feeling very butt-hurt right now! Just kidding! This sounds good, we were so close this year, hopefully next year we can send Dom off with some hardware. Lets go wings! Hell, if he can play the way he did this season, we're in damn good shape between the pipes. The Dominator is back baby! Yeah all he has to do is play the way he did all year. If the Wings can stay healthy in the playoffs they will have a good chance to make a push again next year. The lack of blueliner depth cost them I think. But thats the nature of the cap. Makes you have bring young guys in. You can't carry 8 veterans anymore like in 02. Lidstrom, Ollauson, Fischer, Cheli, Duchesne, Dandy, Krupp and Slegr. Won't see that happen again. motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) Memo to Dominik: Do all you can to ensure you stay healthy next season. Memo to Babcock: Keep Dom's games played down near 50 like the 56 he played in last year. Memo to The Team: Go out and finish the job!! puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 Memo to Dominik: Do all you can to ensure you stay healthy next season. Memo to Babcock: Keep Dom's games played down near 50 like the 56 he played in last year. Memo to The Team: Go out and finish the job!! Good advice! I don't think there's any issue with number 1 and 2. Hasek's already proved to all but the most cynical fan that he's willing to do whatever it takes. I thought Babcock was excellent last season and look for another just as good. As for number 3, I look forward to seeing the team play all 60 minutes of each game next season. Like it or not, Hasek was pretty much THE reason the Wings won a couple of games in the playoffs, because he held the other team scoreless until the Wings woke up in the last 20 and roared back to win. I know it drove me nuts to see the Wings do that, probably did you guys as well. If the Wings had been healthy, if we hadn't lost Schneider and Homer to injury (say what you will, he was not the same after the Pronger assault) -- we would be planning a Cup parade right now. Rinse and repeat, Red Wings. Just try to stay well next season!

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) I am so happy he's coming back. Dom was great this year, especially in the playoffs. Health is still a bit of a concern, but overall I'm really glad he's staying here. Another great part of this deal? The Wings won't go out and majorly overpay for someone like Giguere, or try for the "next best thing" which is basically about the same as Ozzie. I hate trying to be part of a goalie bidding war, and thankfully we won't have to be now. Edited June 14, 2007 by Kp-Wings

Cheli could have just given him a good talk, too. They don't have to be bffs. Although a few Cheli + Dom bff avatars would be a good idea about now... puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted June 23, 2007 So come on and sign allready... :deal: And Dom it can't be you thats trying to take us to the bank, is it? Say it aint so ...say it aint so... this isn't directed at you, Production Line... I'm only quoting your post to make a point -- I doubt that Dom is the problem, really. He played for a ridiculously low sum last season, when you consider what he brought to the team. The Wings got past Round 1 this playoffs for the first time since 2002. It was not a coincidence that Hasek was in net, IMO. In 2006-2007: Kipper raked in $3.5M. Luongo commanded $6M, Giguere $4M. Heck, even "I can't get past the 1st round to save my life" Turco made $6M Miller (Buffalo) made $2M, and Emery - who is probably worth more - made $925,000. Dom made $750,000 before the bonuses he earned by getting the team to within four games of the Cup, a reported $900,000. Take that, along with the fact that the refused to collect $3M or half of his salary in 2003, and I'd say the Wings owe him a couple of bucks. Dom's not an injury risk - less of one than Hank, Bert, or Kronner in reality. So the argument that he should play for peanuts on the chance that he might be injured doesn't cut it for me (nor for agent, Ritch Winter, apparently). I don't think it's Dominik Hasek's job to be the one to make sure the team stays together by playing for nothing. That's Kenny's job, to get the rest of the unsigned player into the fold. It's also up to the rest of the players - if it comes to that - to take a little less as well, if they all want to play in Detroit. Like Hasek did.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted June 23, 2007 (edited) Well I'll agree that any player can get injured throughout the course of the season, but disagree on Dom; you injure a specific part of your body repeatedly (such as his groin muscles, or Hank's left wrist) - that area is then more susceptible to injury down the road...However he, & the Wings training staff have taken every precaution to reduce that risk which has resulted in a great season with little issues concerning his health. I just hope Holland, & Dom can get a contract signed as to where both sides are happy. Me, too! As you say, with Dom taking such extraordinary care of his poor old carcass, I expect he will have another healthy season, because of his diligence. So, he's less of a risk than Bert and Hank with their bad backs, or Kronner --who is just a train wreck, due to either bad luck or just the way he plays, or something. Ozzie was hurt more than Dom, and made $200,000 more for the games he did play. Not his fault, just saying.... Following the threat of injury as a rationale for reduced salaries, Bert, Hank and Kronner should take less, since they are very likely to get hurt again, too. Or, they could forgive the part of their salaries when they are not able to play, like Hasek did. Bertuzzi, $5.3M - overpaid, though I love the guy anyway and have faith in him to come back stronger in the Fall Hank, $2.6M - underpaid, if he shows up next season as one of the Eurotwins again Kronner - I forget, but it's not league minimum, as I recall... All they have to do is take a reduced salary because their injuries might recur, and we can afford Schneider. Right? You know I am just yankin' your chain a little bit, but people saying Dom should play for rookie pay because he might get injured just doesn't make sense, unless everyone plays by the same rules, saalry-wise. Hasek is not worth a couple of million, when he's the reason, with Lidstrom, that we got to game six, third round? SInce there isn't anyone else decent we can get for the money, I'd say so. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 25, 2007 But... I have it in very good authority (Toronto fans) that next year is Toronto's year... You got it wrong. It's not 'Next year is Toronto's year' meaning the very next season, but it's ' "Next year" is Toronto's year' meaning that success for the Leafs is always just out of reach over the horizon.
