rwfan007 18 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 The Leafs defence was fine (8th fewest shots given up), they had no confidence in Raycroft. He gives up at least one softie per game, usually at the worst possible time. like the one softie that we have been spotting Dom every game? Dom, great as he is, gave up his share of softies... even in the playoffs. Raycroft is young, healthy, and relatively cheap for a starter. Why not give him a chance. We have a solid defense which will keep any goalie's work minimal. We can start out with a young goalie for a change... when was the last time we did that? Manny, Ozzie, Dom, Cujo... all over 33 years old. Time to go young if we can't get Dom back in Detroit I say.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 (edited) Raycroft isn't exactly a bargain for 2M$. and it's most certainly not a price Fergusson can ask for him in this situation. everybody knows Leafs situation and no GM will give Fergusson a free lunch I'd rather play Oz and bring Howard who needs to get the chance to finally play NHL minutes if he's supposed to be future starter. Well, soon, you'll get your wish. Howard will be the young unexperienced starting goalie next year. Why not one last kick at the cup with Hasek in the meantime? Offsides 21 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 If we get Raycroft, Ozzie will end up being #1, unless Babs seriously does have a vendetta against him...but Raycroft could be insurance if Oz gets injured.
superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 Well, maybe his bro could whip him into shape... If nothing else, between the two, we'd have a healthy Kronwall more often. Nik has to whip himself into shape before he can do anything to help Staffan.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I dont know what posseses someone to say something like this.. Lets put ourselves into the head of Brian Burke. He's just gone and signed 2 of the Wings free agents, which not only was for need purposes, but obviously an attempt to weaken the Wings at the same time. Now, after all this, he's going to trade us a goalie. Uhhhh....NO! As for Raycroft, hell no. Hasek will get his 3 million dollar raise and end up at 3.5 mill for 1 year. I'll be very disappointed if the Wings end up shelling out 3.5 mill for Dom.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I'll be very disappointed if the Wings end up shelling out 3.5 mill for Dom. that would make Mason's 3M$ a steal
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I'll be very disappointed if the Wings end up shelling out 3.5 mill for Dom. As would i, of course theres no source or anything to substantiate that number, its just what i feel is coming. The reason he hasnt been re-signed yet is because he'll be getting such a big raise. And with so many free agents gone now, this is how a big portion of that 8 mill will end up being used.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 A big yes from me. Why do you think the Leafs got Toskala? Because Raycroft wasn't getting it done. No thanks. Dom will be back.
superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I don't know why we just try to deal for bryz or offer lundqvist, or emery. Goaltending situation solved for years Brian Burke trading Ilya Bryzgalov to us is less likely than Tim Cheveldae coming back to be our goalie.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I don't know why we just try to deal for bryz or offer lundqvist, or emery. Goaltending situation solved for years There's a good chance Howard will be at least as good as either of these guys. Maybe better in big games under pressure. And he will be cheap as dirt for the first several years playing for the Wings. Why spend big money on Lundqvist or Emery.

I want the cup back in '08. Not '09, '10 or '11. To do that we need one of the top goalies in the league. Raycroft doesn't fit the bill. If we wanted to take a risk with a young inexperienced goalie, we would start Howard who probaly has the same potential as Raycroft. To get Raycroft would make no sense. Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I'm still confident Dom will return for another season. And if not, Raycroft could be an option for the right amount of money. 3 million or less. $3m? Umm...
KnightFire420 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 Why the hell would any intelligent Wings fans want Raycroft on the team?? Come on people use some common sense when looking at these players it's embarrassing to see that Wings fans are just as stupid as Maple Leaf fans when it comes to subjects like this. If Raycroft was the goalie for the Wings we wouldn't have a hope in hell to win the Cup no matter who was in front of him. Raycroft can't steal games and he allows a lot of weak goals. If a bad team like the Leafs don't want him why would the Wings?

It does seem like there has to be some disagreement on the money. It's not like Kenny and Dom are just sitting around taking their sweet time to sign on the dotted line. They're still far apart on money, or Dom is checking out offers from other teams. I just hope you're wrong about that raise Lou.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 For what we're probably going to have to pay Dom, bringing in Raycroft for $2 Million to back up Ozzie is an interesting idea. Maybe Ray can only play 30 games. Raycroft and Ozzie will only cost us only $3 Million in Salary, freeing up money to sign a few more solid players and having wiggle room at the deadline. Who knows, Raycroft maybe better with less work and an excellent team in front of him? I think with Hasek, we need to quit while we're ahead. Why the hell would any intelligent Wings fans want Raycroft on the team?? Go_Wings_Go_13Dats 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I live in Toronto, so I see a lot of Leafs Games. Let me just tell you: No. Raycroft allows soft goals, can't steal games for his team, and is dreadfully inconsistent. I wouldn't have him in Detroit for 1M.
