betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Koopmans re-signed for one more year. When did McGrath ever leave? I understand he has his problems, and is criticized a lot, but I never knew the Wings got rid of him. Where do you get the idea that the Wings got rid of McGrath? He's right there on the roster with #47.

I understand he has his problems, and is criticized a lot, but I never knew the Wings got rid of him. Iv seen both McGrath and Koopmans play for the storm last year, McGrath got sent down for a game or two, McGrath impressed the hell out of me, but then again it was on a dinky rink. As for Koopmans, i think he has what it takes to play in the AHL and possibly NHL, but with all our skillful netminders, we sure do have alot of insurance

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 I read that kid came from the same town a shanny, so its kind of like a tribute to him. Um, nope, Shanny's Canadian (Ontario IIRC). Cullen's from Moorhead, Minnesota, USA. There was an article about someone with that connection with Shanny, but I can't remember who offhand.

mooose kiiisses 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Wrong brother, I wish we had Andrew, that would be a nice addition. I think he is still in Boston though. I don't think Andrew Ference and Brad Ference are brothers. Andrew is still with Boston but his birthday is March 17, 1979 and Brad's is April 2, 1979, so they cannot be brothers, unless they were adopted.

They are not related, but jokingly call each other 'cousin' due to the common misconception that they are. They have played in the same league (often multiple leagues for both) every season since 1996 except for 2004-05, when Brad played in France and Andrew did not play, and 2005-06 when Brad played for the AHL affiliates of Phoenix and New Jersey. Opie 308 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 I was one of those people assuming, but yeah it would be physically impossible to have birthdays within two months unless one was a really delayed twin!!!!!
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 No Ericsson? That was my thought as well. Ericsson is the guy I'm rooting for to break into the top 7. But, I think that roster is kind of sloppy and not exactly a true reflection of how it actually looks (after all, they assigned 13 to Mark Hartigan and 33 to Adam Berkhoel), so I'm not reading anything into it. I was one of those people assuming, but yeah it would be physically impossible to have birthdays within two months unless one was a really delayed twin!!!!! Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 31, 2007 I thought Kindl was 6'4 or 6'5 Hah. I wish there was a defenseman as good as Kindl while also being that size. Kindl is 6'2, which is still great size, and will come in handy back on the blueline. I'm getting very exited to see what this kid can do. I'd like to see him make the team right out of training camp, but that's more just wishful thinking at this point. Guys like Lilja and Meech unfourtantly stand in his way. Hopefully he does get into a few games next year, so we can see what he looks like in an actual NHL game. He did look good in his pre-season games last year, so hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) Hah. I wish there was a defenseman as good as Kindl while also being that size. Jiri Fischer ring a bell? How about Pronger or Chara? They're all that big (or bigger) and better than Kindl. Kindl is probably one of the six best defensemen in the organization right now, but he'll play this year in Grand Rapids so he can play top pairing instead of third pairing. Hopefully he does get into a few games next year, so we can see what he looks like in an actual NHL game. He did look good in his pre-season games last year, so hopefully it's a sign of things to come. Kindl may see some time on NHL ice this year, he may not. But he's got a pretty solid chance of playing in the top four for 08-09. Edited August 31, 2007 by eva unit zero
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 31, 2007 Jiri Fischer ring a bell? How about Pronger or Chara? They're all that big (or bigger) and better than Kindl. I meant in the Wings organization, not NHL in general. I should have clarified that better. Kindl is probably one of the six best defensemen in the organization right now, but he'll play this year in Grand Rapids so he can play top pairing instead of third pairing. If he's the 6th best, I'd just rather play him now. He's already better than Lilja and Lebda, and arguably Kronwall. I don't see why he can't play now. Guest Yzer19 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 agreed.... now if i seen someone in the 16 i would be pissed What if they gave out the 1,7,9,10,12, or even the 19? Would you be mad or is #16 the only number you don't want them to give out?

EDIT: I have no idea why McGrath and Koopmans are on the roster, though." Koopmans and McGrath weren't regulars last season and certainly weren't acquired this summer. Hence my confusion. Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 damn i really want someone on the team thats at least 6'5 that could play would be nice isn't Ericsson 6'5... i know he's not as highly touted as Kindl, him being a 9th round pick and Kindl being a 1st, but if he's in GR it means he's got at least some potential... I wouldn't want to get any of the retired numbers in training camp for the Wings...it would be a sign of 'you have no chance, kid.' I meant in the Wings organization, not NHL in general. I should have clarified that better. If he's the 6th best, I'd just rather play him now. He's already better than Lilja and Lebda, and arguably Kronwall. I don't see why he can't play now. Kindl is better off on the top pairing in GR this year than on the third pairing in Detroit. The Wings already have seven defensemen who can't be sent down without clearing waivers, and Kindl can. Lilja and Lebda both played solid hockey last season, so there is no reason to make a minor upgrade and rush Kindl.
