Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I'm calling it a draw. Drake got some good punches in, probably would've taken Perry out if he didn't have his helmet on. Perry got some good punches in too, and eventually the takedown, but Drake wins the "real fight" category. No helmet, no hair pulling.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 awe yeah... sir dallas is great... Gosh i missed him!

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) It was probably covered in the GDT, but I wasn't at my compute during the game, so I'll be the 1st to say (in this thread) that Perry is a ***** and a half for not taking his helmet off. Not only that, but he waited until Drake started to go for his to throw the first punch. Normally not taking your helmet off isn't a big deal, but when you're wearing a visor and have the opportunity to do so and refuse, you're a ***** plain and simple. Regardless, it was great to see a fight in the first game of the year. Kudos to Drake for the entertainment tonight. Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) That fight was definitely a draw. They both landed good shots(although Drake's punches seamed to look more powerful). I dont like the fact that Perry left his helmet on either. But Drake didnt really take his off. It more or less got punched off. But either way, Perry should have whipped his helmet off. Definitely a good scrap though. And you could tell it sent a jolt through the crowd and the players bench. Problem is, it sorta pumped up the Ducks as well. So momentum-wise, it was sort of a wash. But it just brough more electricity to the building. And any punches being thrown the Ducks way, sure does put a smile on my face. Drake is just the kind of guy we needed. He's a scrappy, gritty guy, that still has speed, and still likes to drop the gloves. And im sure he will do it to stick up for a teammate as well. Not to mention the guy knows how to put the puck in the net. Great acquisition by Kenny Holland. I look forward to seeing some more red gloves hitting the ice. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Drake wins...Perry is disqualified for sucker punching while Drake was removing his helment and for failure to remove his own.
Guest micah Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Solid draw, nice showing by both guys. Perry should have ditched the visor, but oh well - it might be a ***** move but fighting with a visor is way less ***** than not fighting at all (I'm looking at you, Maltby)
Opie 308 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Hey man I understand if you want to wear a shield to protect you from a puck, we all saw how quickly Yzerman went to the shield after taking that puck in the playoffs. But seriously dude, if you are going to fight remove the damn thing from your head, or you are officially a big fat hairy *****!!!!! That is weak at best. And then to top it all off just as Drake goes to remove his, uh you throw a punch, WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! This is the same mentality that went into his cheap shot to start the fight, an overall lack of respect. I hope next time the play Drake gets him in the cross hairs with his head down and the puck on his stick, Stevens/Kariya-esque!!!
Rob the Badger 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Drake wins...Perry is disqualified for sucker punching while Drake was removing his helment and for failure to remove his own. That pretty much sums it up.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I was a little ambivalent about Drake coming back to Hockeytown at first. He just earned my respect. Welcome back, Dallas, we needed you! PS - you won that one by default. Perry is a wimp.
union drone 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I give the slight edge to Drake for the fight itself. Perry got in a few, but Drake was far more aggressive. Also, how can a guy who leaves on both his helmet and visor *possibly* be considered a winner in a fight?! For that alone (if all else is equal), Drake gets the "W". Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 That was a nice solid scrap. I call it a draw. Perry is a little ***** for refusing to remove his helmet w/ visor, then waiting for Dallas to reach up to flip his off to throw the first few punchs and Dallas had every right to be furious. Anyone see a rematch later thiis year?

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I miss this... I remember that fight clearly. That ******* linesman about got Shanny KO'd because he grabbed him and Shanny lost his balance just as Pederson threw a bomb of a right hand that caught Shanny good. A lesser man or a man with less Irish in him might've buckled right there. It was a decent go and Pederson ended up throwing Shanny down. It wasn't a Bertuzzi throwing Phaneuf down move but he got leverage as they were hugging and torqued Shanny over to the ice. I just remember that fight so vividly because I wanted to punch out that fuggin' linesman for nearly getting Shanny smoked. Fighting with a visor = automatic DQ As a matter or principle, yes. On a technical level, if you wear a visor and instigate a fight you get penalized for it. But if a guy instigates a fight on a guy with a visor its not penalized. I banged my hands up plenty bad punching helmets over the years. It got to the point where I'd take off my helmet sometimes even if the other guy wasn't wearing a shield in the hopes he'd take his off too. I left far more fights with injured hands than I did with an injured face or head so it seemed like the lesser of two evils.
hoogs 8 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Thats not the linesman's arm there grabbing Shanny Also I think Drake should have ripped Perry's helmet off once he realized Perry is a huge ***** and douchebag. I think Drake would have won easily if he had a free shot at Perry's head.
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 You guys summed it up. Totally weak of Perry to not only refuse to remove his helmet/visor when Drake motioned about it and started removing his. Then to go after Drake as he was removing his visorless helmet was even weaker. I get the impression Drake is the type to hold a grudge. I look forward to the next time the Ducks play the Wings. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Yeah, that isn't the linesman's hand, because linesman don't wear red. As for Perry, he's a gutless puke just like every other player in the league that fights while wearing a visor. Why doesn't he just wear a cage on his helmet next time like they wear in college? Opie 308 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Why just a few weeks ago we were discussing the value of fisticuffs in the NHL/roster spots for those whom can play/fight; it now appears that you may have enjoyed the Drake/Perry scrap Our little Opie has 'all grown up' LOL Hey man I love a good hockey fight as much as anybody, my argument was always why have an enforcer just to have one. Then Liddy changed my opinion about the necessity of it. Here is my question is Downey still necessary?
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 LOL Hey man I love a good hockey fight as much as anybody, my argument was always why have an enforcer just to have one. Then Liddy changed my opinion about the necessity of it. Here is my question is Downey still necessary? I'd say we could still use Downey to stand up against the "heavyweights" of the league, except that Downey doesn't seem to win those either. But I'd rather him be the punching bag rather than Drake who I think can contribute more.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I miss this... I remember that fight. Pederson got the benefit of the doubt, because he threw punches right as the ref grabbed Shanny. It wasn't really a fair fight, to say the least.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Pictures like that make me miss Shanny. He'd always score goals and fight .
