BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 It's a very tough call. Laraque controlled the fight, but when he had a chance to finish Brashear off, he let up and then he paid for it. I wouldn't call it a TKO by Brash, but it was definitely a KD. Either way, Laraque's advantage early had more to do with ragdolling Brashear than it did with punches landing. Good fight, regardless. Fighting numbers are up so far this year. Good times.

In my opinion a KD is a punch that sends someone down (usually to his knees) and the fighter is able to get right up and continue. Laraque got flattened. It doesnt really seem right because of the way Laraque dominated almost the whole way, but its not much different than a MMA guy getting hammered but then pulling off a shot out of nowhere and getting the ref stoppage. I realize comparing hockey fights to MMA and boxing doesnt always hold water, but in this case i think its similar.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 Fighting numbers are up so far this year. Good times. I know! I think they said around 40% or something over last year, which is great. There are a lot of young fighters coming into the game now. Guys like Jared Boll, Daniel Carcillo, David Clarkson, Milan Lucic, D.J. King, and David Koci are going to be very exiting guys to watch in the future. Plus, you got a good influx of other fighters still in the league, like McGratten, Orr, Boogaard, Ivanans, Brashear, Parros, Shawn Thornton, and a whole bunch of others. It's a great year to be a fight fan. I'm looking forward to even more.
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Couple good scraps so far tonight between the Ducks and Blues. I missed the King-Parros fight but was able to see the Moen-Walker and May-Jackman bouts and they were pretty entertaining. Good hard hitting game between these two teams so far heading into the second intermission.
Kutcher 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 I caught the highlights of the King Parros fight and King dominated him.

I agree with what you're saying, but in this particular case, Laraque did get back up, but the refs ended the fight. When Brashear went down earlier in the fight (it looked like he went down twice) that didn't happen. I thought Brashear landed the best punch of the fight, though. No question about that. Great stuff in the Ducks-Blues game tonight. There were like 4 fights and the physical play was way up.

I mustve been completely caught up in the moment as i watched it as i couldve sworn Laraque was laid on his back as the refs jumped in. You're right in that was getting back up as the refs jumped in...so...hmmmmmm! That does make it really tough. I cant in good conscience give the win to Laraque with the way it ended, but i cant necessarily give it Brash either as what i thought was a clear cut TKO wasnt. At best its a "ref assisted TKO" (like there is such a thing, lol)...so screw it, DRAW!
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Anyone see the Nolan/Stortini fight on saturday? I was watching it on hockeyfights, Nolan's still got it, he gave it to Stortini.

I hoped there might be a bit of a copycat effect from the Ducks, but I figured it was wishful thinking. Whatever the reason is, I'm just glad to see all the scraps. Anyone see the Nolan/Stortini fight on saturday? I was watching it on hockeyfights, Nolan's still got it, he gave it to Stortini. Yeah, that was shocking. Nolan should not still be able to hang with a young stud like Stortini, let alone take it to him like that!
Heaton 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 Chara just opened Koci's face with a punch. There's blood everywhere, all over Koci, the ice, Chara and the linesman. It was brutal. Hopefully Chara didn't break his hand.
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 Damn!! Chara just busted Koci up good!! Koci definitely has a broken nose. Lots of blood in this one.

johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 Originally I thought he got his nose broke but the blood was pouring from higher up so I think he got his forehead split open. To his credit he stayed on his feet after taking that punch and took some more punishment.

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 Chara's a beast. I wish he fought more, but he's pretty valuable to be spending 5 minutes at a time in the box. He usually destroys the other guy. Credit to Koci for going with Chara after his beak got opened up by Belak last weekend. If anyone gets a link of Lecavalier vs. Hartnell from their 10/25 game please post it. Here you go. Let me guess, it was probably a 20 second segment during the last 5 minutes of sportscenter. espn and Bettman can both go f*** off. Alll the people their gave Chara a decicive or clear win execept for one delusional guy who gave Chara the slightest of edge. Chara is definitely the 2nd best European fighting defenseman right now behind Lilja. He can hold his own against a top enforcer, but whenever they get the better of him, he always seems to lose his balance and goes down to avoid taking any more damage. I'd love to see him fight more often, but that's not what the Bruins had in mind when they offered him that huge contract.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 Curious to see who everyone's top 5 best fighters are. Notnecessarily who's having the best year so far, just who you think the best are. My list right now would be: 1) Georges Laraque 2) Donald Brashear 3) Derek Boogaard 4) Brian McGrattan 5) DJ King King might seem like an odd choice, as he doesnt really have the big wins like the others, but i consider him to be like one of those college football teams who just continues to climb up the rankings without a really good strength of schedule...like a Boise St type.
