Osgood a good fit in his role

he is a much better starter that Haesuck sp???

Seriously? I didn't start this thread so that there could be a Hasek vs. Osgood debate. This is about Ozzie and how he's a good fit for the Wings. Nothing more, nothing less. Please don't turn this into something else.

Ozzie sucks.

(just kidding Reem!) :P

As for the article: no way that article was written by Rob Parker. It was actually positive, and there was no Lions bashing in it. Plus, Parker is too Busche league to use a computer and type something out in an article form. He'd much rather prefer to use cave drawings to describe his feelings non-verbally.

just ignore him. he's not worth the effort.

I read the article earlier today and I thought it was great. I totally agree that Ozzie is is underapreciated. glad to see someone else recognizing that!

I heartily concur. Osgood is 90% of the reason that I am confortable having Hasek in goal. Hasek is great, but I'd never take the risk if it weren't for the most excellent backup. Instead of insisting on people taking sides, we should all be grateful that we have so darn much talent between the pipes and holding the clipboard that our guys don't have to play if they aren't in their best form.

Here's to our heros, and the heros behind them who let them shine.

Oh, great, now I have "the Wind Beneath My Wings" in my head.

Anyways, read that article yesterday morning.

You don't have a whole lot of professional athletes in any sport with the same mindset right now as Osgood. He could probably be making more money somewhere else, and probably playing a good bit more somewhere else either as a starter 50/50 role with another goalie, but he's putting the Red Wings and Detroit first and sacraficing some dollars/work personally to be in a place that he wants to be at. I have a lot of respect for Osgood.

Not trying to shun "others" in bad light that consider themselves first to make a living at all, you got to take care of yourself personally and your family etc. etc. etc., and if that means making more money, then do it.

I also like Osgood b/c he seemed extremely shy when he started playing in the NHL, now he's turned into a smart-ass jokester. I like those people and consider myself one of them. :sly::P

How many athletes could be comfortable coming back to a team that let you go and then bring you back to backup the guy that took your job? Ozzie is a class act.

Ozzie is the main reason why if Hasek get's injured or finally loses it, I'm not worried. Ozzie can easily play 60 games this year.

Yeah, I'm not even concerned about Hasek anymore. Osgood is a starter on any other team in the league. The guy has NEVER let us down. He had a bum rap (much like Legace and Cujo, who I wasn't fond of, either) for early playoff exits even though the team in front of him never scored. The guy has a perfect attitude, brings his A game every night, even after long breaks, and isn't easily rattled.

His cool, collected level of play complements perfectly Hasek's erratic, passionate play. I can't think of a better two-goalie punch in the league right now.

A lot of people like to rip on Osgood, but in fact, he is and always has been (well, not while in StL or NY) a great asset to the Wings. Solid in net, great attitude.

Second in all-time team wins to Sawchuk

Fifth in wins among active goalies

Cup win as backup in '97

Cup win as starter in '98

'nuff said.

Is ozzie's contract up after this season?

If so they need to sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal so he can be a mentor/back-up to J-Ho next year.

It depends I guess.

Don't be suprised if Hasek signs for another year.

And don't make Jimmy Howard the automatic starter for next year. He had a horrible regular season last year in GR, although he bouced back nicely in the playoffs.

However, he has to show some consistency this year. Being called the next Red Wings goaltender doesn't mean you are the next Red Wings goaltender.

So, there's a number of combinations possible.

Even so crazy trade with Vancouver or Anaheim for that matter...

As long as Ozzie stays for another 5 years, I'm happy !
