One goal and one assist for two points and a minus two in seven games. Note that, in a stunning continuation of former Wings scoring on us this season, both of those points were against us in the first game of the season.

So, that's zero points in his other six games. Did I mention that he spent some time on the IR as well?

Anyway... so far, so good, Kenny--good move. Burke: enjoy your buddy's company.. I hope it's worth $4m and some whining to you.

I'll always be a fan of Bert, and wish we had re-signed him. But, great move by Kenny not panicing and letting Burke give Bert a ridiculous contract. He isnt worth 4 million. I wish his agent wouldve just accepted the like 1.5 mil 1 year deal from us, but noooo.

I doubt he'll have a very good season, and I would cheer for him, but he signed with the Ducks. Not a smart move Todd.

I knew he'd get injured, it's not good to have him out, but I hate the Ducks, so it's AOK with me.

I also love how Burke continues to look like an idiot, tonight for example when the Oilers beat the Ducks and Penner nailed about 6 ducks tonight.

I wouldn't call this team especially fast, but they don't really need to be. The Wings play to their strengths.

Hey, it's better than paying $10 million this year and an average of $7.4 million a year for 7 years for a guy that has 2 goals an 1 assist over 10 games so far (Gomez). They also have another expensive off-season acquisition that isn't exactly blowing the roof off either (though he never really has).

How's the prospect we gave up for Bert doing!!??

Don't shoot the messenger...

"Nearly two months into the Ontario Hockey League season, Matthias, a Belleville Bulls center, has produced more on his own than current Red Wings prospects Jan Mursak and Cory Emmerton have combined.

Matthias's 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points in 14 games leave him tied with 17-year-old sensation John Tavares for the OHL's scoring lead.

Mursak, a Saginaw Spirit winger, and Emmerton, a center with the Kingston Frontenacs, each have 14 points in 15 games. In what should be banner seasons for both, Mursak has experienced a 38 percent drop in production from last season, while Emmerton's totals have plummeted by 77 percent. "

I saw this at Mlive. It was very painful to read. Add these stats to the fact that Matthias is 6-4, 205lbs and still growing, and it hurts even more.

Mursak will be a top six winger at some point. I was never that big on Emmerton.

Matthias is going to be a good third line center in the NHL. Nothing more. The fact that he is keeping up with Tavares in the scoring race doesn't change that. It's like Tampa Bay's Chris Kontos in 1992-93..he scored 4 goals in the team's first game, and kept up with Mario Lemieux in scoring early on. Kontos had a league-leading 20 goals by the end of November, but finished with only 27 goals and 52 points, and never played an NHL game after that season.

Talking about prospects who are still developing is a little different than talking about "streaky" NHL players. Whether it be Kontos or John Druce or Jim Carey. No one's suggesting that Matthais is going to be challenging Tavares for the scoring title come spring. Also, I'm not saying I'd pick Matthais or Mursak. But you can't deny that he's an intriguing prospect with that big frame.

Which prospect would you have traded for Bert? Do you think Shawn was a good choice?

He would've been worth taking a chance on for maybe 2m or under...all things considered I'm glad he didn't stay, although a Hudler-Filppula-Bertuzzi second line would've been interesting.

Exactly. Whats the going rate for a washed up, big and talented, oft injured, former almost was-been with more baggage than Paris Hilton. I'd have to think far less than $4mil. Could have been a good little line, but ya can't blame a guy for taking the extra $2mil per. Here's to hoping the best for Todd, other than beating the Wings and getting the Cup.

Matthias has the lowest expected ceiling of the prospects that would have been acceptable to trade for Bert. And it's been said many times during this young OHL season that trading Matthias was a mistake, because look he's leading the OHL in scoring. Whin in turn implies that giving up Matthias was a mistake, because he's a badass prospect who's going to tear up the league.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have made that deal. But that has more to do with the fact Bertuzzi has had exactly one good game since we made that trade, and that was the first Wings game of this season.
