Hudler needs to adapt to the teams needs, if he doesn't he becomes superfluous. He's very gifted offensively (which is great) but we need another dimension from him. If Babcock wants to extract that from him by taking him out of his comfort zone and forcing him to be accountable than I fully agree with that.

This can only be good for Hudler as a player. Zetterberg, Yzerman and Fedorov are/were all two-way players. Wouldn't be a bad thing if Hudler joined that list.

And if he does not pass this 'experiment', it wouldn't hurt to trade him. Losing Hudler wouldn't affect this team in any way.

He has size and can score every now & then, but the man is a turnover machine. {Pssst: Babs could just think of it of balancing the attack by putting the scoring machine that is Samuelsson on the fourth line.}

I'd play Hudler with Franzen & Filpulla in this scenario, or if Babs is intent on splitting the twins, we could line everyone up thusly:

Hudler, Zetterberg, Holmstrom

Filpulla, Datsyuk, Franzen

Maltby, Draper, Drake

Cleary, Kopecky, Samuelsson

Depth: Downey & Ellis

Keep the top line together:

I think Hulder will fit in along side Drake and Downey or Ellis... As for kronwall, i love his defensive style, but im really impressed with Meech. Hes taken that role and is making the best of it. Look at last year... We had nobody who picked up his role like meech is doing.

So I ask of you whom on the wings roster right now do you know that isn't on the top line or top D pairing that puts up the numbers Sammy does. Whom is going to replace him, you say Franzen but can Franzen put up Sammy's numbers.

I am not a Sammy lover, but I like to consider myself a realist, his stats (to re-use my post 3 above this one)

Hudler can still get his points on the PP, it's not like we have a shortage of PPs. Having him on the Drake and Kopecky's line gives that line considerably more scoring threat and gets us a tiny bit closer to the ideal situation of just being able to roll four lines.

Sammy has scored more points, and has a better +/- and you know what, he's much more physical and bigger.

As for the lines that were posted, seems like if Hudler doesnt out perform Homer, hes scratched(He's useless on the 4th line, Cleary, Filpula, and Franzen will be the 2nd unit, no room for Hudler there either). Too bad, he has played well but he doesnt do much in the way of defence or physical play, and Franzen does.

Honestly I think we should be splitting up Z and Dats...but they are like our whole scoring force...so you can't. It makes the other 3 lines seem really unbalanced imo. I feel like we have a 1st line...and a bunch of stuff going on in the other lines...not really sure what...it's unclear.

Putting Flip with Pavs and putting Z with Huds I think would give us 2 solid lines...and have Franzen and Holmer in similar roles on each line. I know everyone will flip out about splitting up the 2, and it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying so we have more than one dedicated scoring lines.

Doesn't use his teammates? He has 7 assists and only 2 of them coming on the PP, so where does this "doesn't use his teammates" come from. [sarcasm] Oh I know, the scorer had no one else to give the assist to and the first person to skate past his field of vision got the assist. [/sarcasm]

I can understand people not liking him because he doesn't fight or hit, because that is a preference, some of you prefer to watch physical hockey with a lot of fighting, I prefer to watch my team win.

Sammy helps the team do that.

Try explaining your posts instead of just throwing out statements, in your research you may just find that your opinion is a little off base.

People bashed on Lang because they were not happy unless they were bitching, it is the same with Sammy, Huds, and to a lesser degree with Kopecky, but Downey can go out have a fight in 4 minutes of ice time, and he is the team savior. He is the reason why the wings will win the cup. However a ROLE PLAYER goes out and does his job, is building chemistry with two brand new (this year) linemates who are in their second year, and he is a bum who needs to be relegated to the 4th line.
