BigTex 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I just voted for the NHL all star roster at NHL.com. Yes, my roster for the West was what you would call a 'red wings homer' roster, but you gotta admit, you can make a really good case for Ozzie to be in there. Based on his win-loss alone I could see it. comments?
theman19 47 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 there's no way he makes it, as the NHL all star game is more about popularity than stats. But i'd love to see him get a write in nomination.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I keep writing him in, but I heard it doesn't matter because only the starters get the votes and the rest is up to coaches.
vangvace 12 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I didn't want to do it. But he's played too well for me not to have wrote him in.

Offsides 21 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I'll work on it but I don't think he necessarily deserves to be the starter.... I would like to see whatever coach gets in (isn't it the one with the best record) to appoint him. I worry if it's Babs he won't pick him.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 The difference between Osgood and Rory is that Rory was in no way deserving of being in the game and it was a way of bucking the system to try and vote him in. If Osgood really deserves to be there, then there would be no need to vote him in, he'll get chosen. He won't get enough votes to be the starter, so I wouldn't bother writing him in. Offsides 21 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I heard the coaches pick a couple years back. Maybe the used to and don't now???

If Osgood really deserves to be there, then there would be no need to vote him in, he'll get chosen. Why do so many people think the Coach picks the rest of the roster? You assume the universe is fair and proper (or that everyone looks at the players equally). Osgood really isn't a household name goalie... so even if he did deserve to be the starting goaltender of the West, it's highly unlikely that he would. I don't know who picks the rest of the roster, but someone or group does. Edited November 21, 2007 by Flip-check

Vincanni 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I already made him my write in candidate for the West and I do believe he should be on the ballet, but then again we all know familiar names are more common to draw votes then those who truly deserve it. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Good luck. Osgood is not enough of a high profile name to be a starter, and the rest of the choices depend on the coaches (who I can bet will be Randy Carlyle on the Western Conference team). There are too many other guys ahead in the pecking order, based more off of name than anything. Example: I'll bet that Kiprusoff will be there, even though he has been horrible this season. It just comes down to that simple fact. They like to put the big name players in. That's just how it works. Osgood should be in, but he probably won't be. In my opinion anyways. interminded 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I have been writing him in, too The whole All Star voting thing is a farce anyway... Ryan Miller ??? Gimme a break.. Emery is on the ballot, but no Gerber ??? Hasek is on, Osgood isn't ?? Where's Tim Thomas ?? It's the All-Star game, not the SHOULD-HAVE-BEEN-ALL-STAR-GAME !! toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) All Star Selection Process: Voting - those receiving the most votes at each position will start in the all star game. Those finishing with the 2nd most number of votes may get in the game, but it won't be due to voting, so if the player doesn't finish with the most votes, voting is absolutely meaningless. Selection of the rest of the roster: NHL Hockey Operations (headed by Colin Campbell) in consultation with the 30 GMs select the rest of the players. Coaches - typically, these are the coaches whose teams are leading their respective conference at the time the rosters are announced. They have ZERO impact on the determination of the rosters. EDIT: My last bit of ranting....you absolutely need to consider what the players accomplished during the last half of last season. What they accomplished during that time period would not have been recognized (obviously) for the selection to last year's all star team, why would these accomplishments be completely thrown out the window for this year's game? Is that fair? So many people being upset about whose not on the ballot and who is on the ballot instead, etc. Complaining about that is insane as far as I am concerned....seeing as only 12 players out of about 50 or so actually get to the game that way. There hasn't really been many examples of guys that have been voted in that didn't deserve to be there. Sure, there would be better players that should have been the starter, but that makes no difference. Edited November 21, 2007 by toby91_ca
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I've been writing him in (repeatedly). So maybe he won't get the most votes, and maybe he won't play at all, but doggone it, with a bunch of write in votes, he's going to get people noticing him. I think we all agree the guy deserves that much.

AvalancheBad 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 Ozzie really deserves it. I'm trying to get a "Vote for Osgood" campaign going. I posted stuff on the ESPN boards, and Mlive.
