They just do not look like the Stanley Cup Champs anymore. There 12-12-4 after another loss to Oilers (In which they were shutout) and they've lost 2 in a row. There struggling to score goals, Bertuzzi, McDonald, Kunitz all underachieving this year. Getzlaf and Perry are the only real standouts up front for them, and there 3rd year forwards. There defence hasnt been very good this year. Pronger, Schnieder havent been very good lately and the goaltending, dont get me started. The "Michelin Man" has been pretty bad in the last couple of games, and he looks lazy on every save he makes or goal he allows.

I'm starting to think Brian Burke is going to lose it soon. On Sportsnet tonight they were talking about Scott Niedermayer and how he's still 3 or 4 weeks away from returning if he does return. Rob Niedermayer was talking about how Scott is coaching his sons hockey team and has no intentions of doing anything now. I'm starting to lose respect for him, and I'd imagine the Ducks are starting to lose there patience with him.

As for Selanne, who knows what he's going to do. Whatever it is, Im sure the Ducks would like him back. He'd help them out in the goal scoring department for sure.

Another problem for them (No Surprise) is the amount of penalties they take. They've almost got 600 minor penaltys so far this season. George Parros keeps getting tossed from games, and racking up misconducts. Sooner or later he's gonna be suspended and that wont be good for there organization.

I'm really glad to see the Ducks crashing and burning, I just thought that after tonight somethings gotta be done in Anaheim.

I've lost so much respect for Niedermayer.

If he does end up retiring, what a crappy way to end your career. Leave your team hanging for half the season then call it quits.

If he does come back, he's basically abandoned his team for half the year while they struggled. Nice job captain.

It always brings a smile to my face watching teams who knocked us outta the playoffs struggle

iam sure it does.... Anaheim needs this year to find a scorer or 2 and get their defence back where it used to be and goaltending to stop some pucks for once. Dont be surprised if they dont make playoffs. I wont. They will NOT repeat this year iam sure everyone knows that (even ducks fans). Hopefully they can get some things in order for next year, its not like iam writting this year off but we will see...

it feels to make that Anaheim is waiting for Selanne and Neids to come back, and they seem in sort of limbo at the moment.

i would be better if they'd just make a decision and even if they don't come back, it will allow the Ducks to just get on with it...

must be infuriating for a ducks fan (ha ha ha!!!) - not that i'm bitter.

+ they signed Bertuzzi, for 4 mill...which was just a massive mistake.

When their cup hangover wears off, and their injured players come back, with the addition of Scott Niedermayer, I still see them as the hardest team to play against in the playoffs. They're big, have a great defense, and have one of the most clutch goalies in the league. We make fun of them now, but how many people here think that their troubles will last? I don't.

I don't mean to play devils advocate, but if Anaheim finds a way to get out of this slump before it goes too much farther and makes the playoffs, they'll be in fine shape. I don't care how you feel about Giguere, the guy flat-out steps up during the playoffs.

A Cup hangover is the lamest excuse in the book. I can take that for about the first 5-10 games of the season. After that, get your head out of your ass and play some hockey. And who are these injured players you speak of? As far as I know, they do not ave anyone on the Injured List. They are completely healthy. That excuse is out the window. I would say they have a a slightly above average defense, not "great." They had a "great" defense last year. Beauchemin and Pronger are going to be completely exhausted by the time April comes around. As far as goaltending goes, Giguere has been playing poor all year. He is barely keeping his SV % about 900 and is at a GAA of 2.63.

As a Wings fan, I take no comfort in Anaheim's slide at all. I imagine a team working hard all year to secure the best record in the West, only to take the Ducks on in the first round or something. Nightmare, no matter how bad they're playing now. Especially if Niedermayer comes back.

I can understand the thoughts that some have around losing respect for Neidermayer, but I take a different stance on it. He is effectively retired right now, he just hasn't "announced" his retirement.

He's probably just trying to avoid what so many other athletes have done over the years (i.e. retire, only to come back, retire again and come back again and retire for the final time). He is effectively doing the same thing as I see him as being retired right now, so if he comes back, then he will be coming out of retirement, he's just avoiding all the formal announcements.

True.

If Niedermayer came back and the Michelin man gets hot, they'd still be a tough first round opponent, even with their scoring problems.

Exactly my thoughts. Score 1 or 2 goals a game in the playoffs and Giguere finds a way to close the door to the other team. Even if their scoring problems continue into the playoffs Giguere will keep them in the game.

Watch out for the Ducks in a couple seasons. They have two 1st/2/3 rounders this year because of the Penner deal. Yea, they took a step backwards this season, but they are going to be good for a while still.

Yeah,we should all just enjoy while it lasts and worry about the future later.
