Babcock says Osgood will start All-Star game

Posted by George James Malik January 22, 2008 08:51AM

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock says that he's not going to be swayed by Ron Wilson's sales pitch--Chris Osgood, not Evgeni Nabokov, will be the starter at the All-Star Game on Sunday:

January 22, Detroit Free Press: Babcock said no one has told him anything other than that it's his decision who will start in goal for the Western Conference at the All-Star Game.

Vancouver's Roberto Luongo, voted in by fans, has pulled out to be with his pregnant wife. It's expected Babcock will go with Osgood.

"I'm pretty sure it's my call," Babcock said. "And I'm not leaning -- I know."

Providing Hank even plays.

True, so potentially 4 of the 6 starters and if not 3 of the 6, still pretty damn impressive, not as impressive as had they all been voted starters, but it is hard to get voted a starter when your name isn't on the ballot.

That is why I don't like the voting starting so early. It is like they start earlier just so some one can break the number of votes record or something. Why start the voting with 10-15 games in. Wait for at least the 1/3rd mark of the season.

I think the all-star teams should be announced a week before the game. That way we won't have to see so many guys getting injured after they get picked. It happens every year, and it gets annoying.

So deserved. Even though Oz has had a tough last couple games, it doesn't change the fact that he's been lights out for over half the season. Despite what some people here think it hasn't been luck, its been hard work thats gotten him to this point.

Enjoy it Oz, you deserve it.

I don't see any difference which goalie starts and which goalies play 2nd and 3rd period...

I'd rather see the best goalie in the 3rd...that's when the opposing team is going to be desperate if they're trailing

Its the whole starting line up thing... there is something special to it. Teams announce the starting rosters every night before games, because of the specialness of it... they don't announce those starting the 2nd or 3rd periods. Just typing out loud is all.

You gotta be happy when you see the NHL.COM GAA leaderboard and have 2 goaltenders in the top 5 ;)

That just means we've got the best defense in the league. :beerbuddy: I bet Dan Cloutier could have a GAA under 2 with this team in front of him.
