Superman54 91 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Now I have just been hearing, since the hiring of Fletcher for the leafs, that after this season the leafs may be looking at some GM'S including Ken Holland... Now I found this rather stupid, as I find Holland is totally fine in Detroit, but TSN keeps stating his name as one of the possible canidates.... Here is a link for more information http://tsn.ca/blogs/mckenzie/?id=227963 Just want to know what you guys think of it, and if Kenny would have any want to move to the leafs? Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 The one valid point I've heard is that being the GM who finally brings the Cup back to Toronto would basically make you a hockey demi-god. On some level, that would have to be appealing to anyone. It's just a matter of whether they think the situation they'd be dealing with in the meantime would be worth it. egroen 384 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 (edited) Seems like it would be a pretty awful career move. Imagine having to answer to a committee instead of one owner in Illitch? Edited January 23, 2008 by egroen

Barrie 900 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Holland's going no where. Fans and media in Toronto have no sense of reality. They think that there's going to be people lined up wanting the GM job, since Toronto is an original 6 team, but it's sooo far from the truth. Also, Toronto media said the Leafs GM job is the crown jewel of GM jobs. Again, that's sooo far from being true. I would think under the current conditions, Toronto would be very low on someone's wish list. I've heard reports that no one high up in Hockey wants the Toronto GM job, because the organization is in such a mess and the ownership is horrible. Add to that, the pressure from fans and media is literally insane! People in Toronto either, like I said, have no sense of reality, or they just don't listen. I've mentioned this before, but Jimmy D was asked if someone from the Wings Organization would be hired by the Leafs and Develano said, "The Leafs are dreaming in technicolor". Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Here's one of the comments posted by a user on TSN about this topic...... Ken Holland is the best GM of our time- hands down. The Redwings have been at the top of the league for a decade and a half. They win President's Trophy after Presidents Trophy, and though they have had some playoff struggles, they also have THREE cups in the last decade. No other team has been so consistantly great for so long, dispite hall of fame players coming and going. They always seem to keep the team on top, no matter who they sign or lose. Any don't look now, but they are also a lot younger... the wings will continue to be on top for another decade, and Holland is one of the main reasons. He built Hockeytown and he could never hope to have a better legacy. He will retire there, not Toronto. AMEN!! Holland isn't going ANYWHERE....Do you really think Illitch would let him leave.I think Mike Illitch would put a hit on him if he decided to go.LOL.But no really this topic is not based on any facts and doesn't hold any weight. Saran 1 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Now on the TSN NHL Page they have a picture of the candidates. Scotty Bowman, Steve Yzerman, and Kenny Holland are pictures. I dunno if it's just me but I HATE seeing that. I hate having three people that have been with the redwings so long being rumored to go to the SH*T *SS leafs. Im like 99% sure none of them will leave, but the mere mention of their names as a rumor pisses me off. For some reason everyone in Canada with a public voice and especially Leafs fans think that Toronto is the PREMIERE hockey club in the world. To me, a premiere hockey club has a solid foundation with scouting, minor league success and depth, and the stability to be a consistent contender and make the play-offs more times than not. Now I know hockey was created in Canada and the HOF is there and the NHL HQ, but other than that and being the largest city in Canada... what is the appeal? I can tell you that its not just you, as a Wings fan I don't see any of those guys leaving here for Toronto. This has been discussed in previous years on this board..Holland, Nill, Yzerman and Bowman to Toronto? NO it isn't going to happen, and it pisses me off, that TSN even thinks there is a distinct possibility in the matter. NO NO NO NO all of them are here, want to be here and will remain here. Now, Toronto has sucked for 40+years and there is no way in HELL that any of those guys will leave the situation here for that s***ty team. Toronto is going to have to live with the retreads of GMs (Neil Smith anyone?), for now, because I don't see them winning for a long time! What I would like to know, is why did the Leafs keep JFJ that long? Actually I wanna know why they hired him in the first place?
Barrie 900 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=228047&hubname= Not that it's going to do anything, but I've been sending e-mails to some people in the Toronto media, who are realistic, to please give the Toronto media and fans a reality check. I understand what and why this is going on, but it's getting way out of hand. I bet none of those guys mentioned are even considering coming to Toronto, and would probably say "Ewww no", if ever asked. Being the Leafs GM has to be one of the worst jobs in all of sports. Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) I could understand the Leafs want of these guys for GM, but peoples' speculation of it actually happening is beyond irritating it's just.....PEOPLE NEED TO SHUT THE F*** UP! Maybe we should just start our own rumor and see what happens... ...So have you guys heard Felix Potvin is interested in the Toronto GM job? Wow, now they are talking about the leafs stealing away Hakan Andersson from us....OK GUYS. Instead of talking about the Leafs why can't they just say this.... "...and now for the next 5 minutes we bring you "Whole Lotta Love" enjoy..." Edited January 24, 2008 by Bluedevils_13
Doctor G 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 I think you guys are missing some things here. It is a great compliment to the Wings organization to have 3 of your people to be considered for running a team such as the Leafs. If by chance the ownership leaves you alone and you can turn that team around! WOW you would be King of the hockey world. Now if Cliff Fletcher is smart the one he should target is Jim Nill. He has great hockey knowledge, he has had some great teachers, he would be easier to get than Ken Holland or Stevie Y and he is a lot younger than Scotty. It will be interesting to see what happens with that soap-opera they call the Maple Leafs.

Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 I agree that Nill is their best bet, but I'm sure he'd have the same reservations that Scotty did when they first approached him - total control over the club isn't going to happen, so what's the point? But I wonder if there will be any extra incentive coming through in Leafs trades from possible GM's... But theres gotta be something illegal about that, right?
