So there is alot of speculation about Hossa and Sundin coming to Detroit. But why not try for Olli Jokinen. Physical Guy, Will donnybrook for his team, and puts up on the scoreboard too. A all around player minus his -11..

What are your thoughts on Jokinen?

i love the idea for jokinen. if the Wings can't land sundin or Hossa (my preference)

jokinen would be a great addition.

he's hating it in florida (and would you blame him?) obviously that contributes to his -11 in playing on a team like florida.

1st rounder / Franzen / prospect

Jokinen is signed for more than 5mil through 09/10.

5m could be made up easy, with Kronwall being part of the deal. and with the amount of promising D we got in GR, I wouldnt be upset if kronner left.

i really like Kronwall, but if it came down to landing Jokinen, id go for it. dont forget to throw in Franzen, he does nothing for me. a guy with a lot of size and strength, and has scored 9 goals thus far. he's a mystery to me.

i think thats about right... players like Franzen haven't really done enough to impress me this season and so would be a good bargaining chip in a deal like this.... good call!

I like the idea of Joki...he would be my second choice to Hossa, but I don't think we should give up Kronner to get him. Kronner is finally coming into his contract this season and good D is hard to come by.

Trading a D-man is not something I think will happen, instead I think we'll be trading for D-men.... We have the best D in the league, but its not very deep. Meech/Quincy are not guys I'd want to have to count on in the 3rd round if someone gets injured, they lack playoff experience.

On that note, did Danny Markov ever sign anywhere? I wonder if he'd be a depth option for a couple of months at 750 for the rest of the year?

im with you, but i still might pull the trigger to bring in Jokinen, then again, whose gonna fill the Kronwall void, Derek Meech?

...you guys cannot have it both ways! How long have we been screaming about grit and size? "Where's all our 6' plus 200 plus pounders?" Well, Franzen fits that bill and now you want to cast him away and keepo someone like Hudler? Hudler is exactly what we DON'T need anymore of! Too small! Package Hudler and picks for Jokinen and I am all for it! Hate to give up Kronner, I would think that with all his injuries, other teams aren't so high on him as they once were. We may be stuck with the china doll...

i understand what you're saying, but id rather have a small guy like Hudler and have him put up numbers than have a big guy as is Franzen who scores 9 goals and 14 points and looks like he's wearing cement skates when he's on the ice.

I think Florida will ask for more than that. If not, I make the deal in a heartbeat. Him and Flip could have their own Finnish connection, providing we don't have to trade Flip.

A lot of upsides to landing him but we'd have to have Kronwall in as part of the deal most likely to make it work as he's the only player with a big enough contract that is somewhat expendable. This has been his healthiest year, no? Yet he's still been injured at least a couple times including now and heaven knows if he'll make it to/through the playoffs without something else popping up. YConsidering we haven't really had him to contribute in the playoffs, we couldn't really be too upset to have a younger guy or someone we traded for in his spot. It'd just be like last year when we were paying him to be injured yet again! If Kronwall can stay healthy it'd be great to have him in the playoffs, but that just seems to still be such an "if" statement.

I like Franzen enough but wouldn't be upset to see him go to bring Jokinen in, nor Hudler for that matter. At times it seems like Franzens on the cusp of turning it on and becoming a big game player and then he goes back to just being in the background. That's not to say he's bad, but again, for Jokinen? Deal done.

So eh, on paper it's a "cute" idea but that's about where it ends most likely. I like this idea a bit more than some of the others as at least it wouldn't be a rental and he brings a big game. But I'm not counting on it nor do I expect to consider it again even after I press "Add Reply."

Id go Kronner - Sammy - Low/Mid Tier Prospect

Olli has - 51 Points

for

Kronner Has - 25 Points

Sammy has - 27 Points

I cant think that Olli would honestly take more then that to get him, When you put into account his +/- , Salary and the fact that he doesnt want to be there. No reason they wouldnt ship him to us. Expecialy considering they pretty much stole a future all star from us for Mr.Ill Paralyze You, Himself. :P

Jokinen's deal is another example of how UFA/cap inflation can turn big deals (at the time) into bargains in the matter of a season or two...similar to Datsyuk's deal. He'd be an excellent pick-up to center the second line but there's no way the Wings would deal Kronwall for him. Who is going to pick up Kronwall's minutes? My guess is that the Wings are looking to add a defenseman before another forward anyway.

Haha, I don't see how Samuelssons point production is going to make up the difference lost when giving up Jokinen. It's funny how everyone hates him here, yet everyone also overates his trade value to just plain ridiculous levels. You're not going to get a star player for yesterday's trash.

Samuelsson played in Florida before, and they got rid of him. Why exactly would they want him back? He sucks. Nobody in the league is going to want him, unless it's either for a really s***ty player with a large contract, or last weeks TV guide.

If the Wings were to get Jokinen, they'd have to give up a variety of players. I'd expect one, two, possible even three from this group: Hudler, Filppula, Kronwall, Kindl, Quincey, Helm, Howard, Ritola. Along with those names, there'd also be draft picks involved, either in the 1st or 2nd round.

From what I've heard, the Wings haven't been one of the front-runners to get Jokinen, so I don't know how interested they are. I don't believe one second of Eklund's bulls*** rumors, but there probably is a better chance Jokinen ends up in Calgary than Detroit.

if that's true, and if Jokinen gets moved to calgary, this whole western conference arms race might be very well true.

if calgary adds him to the mix, they very well may be able to shake up some things in the conference.

about sammy:

you hit it spot on, no one is gonna want him, especially a place where he was before, in return for their best player.

Yup... Jokinen is an elite player in the league. 5.25 is a very good price for a guy like Olli.. this guy is not an old man, playing out his final few years in the league.. to be realistic, we're looking at something like Kindl+Hudler or Filppula, Ryno, and a pick... players other teams would actually want.... just think if it was the other way around and we're out of the playoffs trying to rebuild... St.Louis calls up and offers Erick Brewer and Jamal Mayers for Pavel Datsyuk.. we hang up before Larry Pleau can even finnish his sentence, thinking.. if you want Datsyuk you better come with Oshie+a 1st.

Agreed. Gritzkey: You are on crack if you think we'll pick up Jokinen for what you've laid out. The guy is elite, he's signed to a very modest contract, and Florida has him for two seasons after this one. Do you really think they'd give him up for Franzen/Samuelsson and/or Hudler and Kronwall? Uhm, no. Beyond that, I see no reason why people are bitching about our great need to break up what is right now by FAR the best team in the league. Seriously, people.

Sheesh.

Im speachless on how defensive you got over a silly post :S

Your posts must all be silly, then, because you bring up such things consistently.

I must say that only having issues with stuff like this is a considerable step in the right direction from the rampant negativity we had on here last season.
