Cleary

...who's better, Cleary of Hudler? Dump Hudler and there's $1,015,000 freed up. Take the 2-3 million he would get from Holland, add Hudlers $1 million and there we have somewhere between 3 and 4 million for someone who deserves it more than Hudler. Hudler blows anyhow, his missed his opportunity this season to prove he belongs and it's obvious he doesn't...

Cleary is better than Hudler, BUT if you get rid of Hudler, you will have to put someone else on his place..can you get there a better player for 1mil?

i'm so sick of this get rid of hudler stuff. they guy scores goals with still not alot of ice time. hes a 30 goal scorer for sure. few more years when ice time is freeed up. reason wings win is cuz we got different type of players to make a winning team. we need hudler just as much as we need clleary. only guys that are just on for the ride right now that we dont need is drake and kopecky and maybe malbty even though it pains me to say that since hes been here so long.

They won't trade Cleary before the deadline. Even tho i like him, let's be realistic here...Cleary needs the Wings more then the Wings need Cleary. The Wings made him, and he'll be nothing playing on another team!

GUARANTEE THAT!!!!

If the Wings can't sign Cleary to an extension before the deadline they may trade him and that would suck. I understand that its his big contract year, so he needs to decide if the big pay cut the WIngs expect him to take from market value is worth it. I hope that Cleary takes less to stay here, but I can't blame him if he doesn't. With Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Rafalski, and soon to be Zetterberg all raking in big money, this is the kind of thing we are going to see as our younger players get better. This is the first time the cap has saddened me....a possible loss of my 2nd favorite Red Wing Dan Cleary....

If the Wings can't sign Cleary before the deadline, why would he be of any trade value to another team which would have the exact same problem?

To everyone: the OP has absolutely ZERO information to back this claim up.

I will be the first to say that i absolutely love dan cleary, but i have a problem when players are like I love being here, I want to be here for a long time, etc. etc. and then end up leaving for more money. For me, it is like if you really want to be a red wing you'll take the pay cut and this wouldn't even be an issue. This is going to be Cleary's biggest nhl contract and I know that he wants to do what is right for his family in the long run, but if you want to stay here long term and truly enjoy being a Red Wing take the 2.5 mil. that holland is willing to offer and prove it.

Trading Cleary would be the stupidest thing Holland could do, which is why it will never happen. On the other hand, I think it is very possible that someone could take Flip during the offseason. If someone puts down an insane offer-sheet, I don't think the Wings have room to get it done, especially with Zetterberg's contract running out in the next year.

I think nothing might be a little bit extreme. Who doesn't want a guy who works his ass?

He's my favorite player, I'd hate to see him go. I really dont see him leaving, it makes no sense on his part. 4 or 5 years at an average of 2.5 per year is a good deal for Danny. I just hate player agents. They always ruin things, Cleary would be very close to signing, then his agent tells him, oh Danny, you could make 1.4 more in Toronto or LA! Lets go there, in that situation, I'd hope Dan is smart enough to tell J.P. Barry to f*** off, and sign with the wings.

He's had 0 sucess elsewere, no point in leaving. He'll make his money before his career is over.... if he stays here.

what was he before the wings gave him a chance? nothing.

but i get what your saying he's better now - but he won't be anything close to what he is now with the wings.

Instead of trading him, how about we sign him to a 3 year contract close to 3 million a year, and make him an alternate captain when Lids/Draper retires.

This guy brings to the table what the 90's era Wings had. He's gritty, not afraid to fly into the corners and sacrifice his body there or in front of the net to get the puck or create a scoring opportunity. He knows how to score, whether it be from a wrist shot in the slot, or gritting it out getting the garbage goals (or as I like to call them, playoff goals). He's not afraid to stick up for himself, or his teammates, even when it means facing Pronger, who is a clean 9 inches taller than him. And hes hungry for a cup. You could see it last year in the playoffs. He was one of our mvp's throughout the entire postseason last year. He was hungry as hell and it showed. Thats the kind of attitude our team feeds off of, and its the kind of attitude that we need to stick around.

Besides, despite his being born in Europe (which is apparently a turn off for all the bandwagon fans), he has the blue-collar attitude of McCarty or Shanahan, players that were idols in the 90's and help put fans in the seats. He may not have that kind of effect on his own, but its something. Especially if McCarty comes back.

ps as of right now only Zetterberg and Homer have more goals than he does, and he's fifth on our team in points, behind Z, Dats, Lids and Rafalski.

Last I checked Carbonear, Newfoundland is in Canada. And supposing that he is really from Newfoundland, I find it hard to believe that he can be a European-born player. ;)

But anyways, Cleary will sign and wear the winged wheel for a long time. Of this, I am pretty certain.

I didn't post it becuase I was in a rush to class this morning and it was on spectors and detroit free press so i figured it was news that was relatively out. I apologize for not providing the links but they are here:

Sorry but Homer is more valuable to this team than Cleary is or ever was. And what does Homer make? I cant think of one good reason why Cleary should get paid more than Homer, other than cap inflation. Theres absolutely no reason Cleary should be looking towards 3.9M, let alone 3. 2.5-2.8 should be acceptable for a guy who A) was a career underperfomer until he played under Babs and 2) hasnt ever even scored 25 goals or amassed more than 50 points in one season. Those arent 4 million dollar stats if youre 30 years old..
