Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 In the off season of '05 Detroit picked up 3 journeymen players that made most fans think that the front office had one too many off the top shelf. Now nearly 3 years down the line all 3 have played a big part of the continuing success of this hockey club. All 3 where going nowhere in their careers and must have pinched themselfs when they got the offer to sign for the Wings. None more so than Dan Cleary who earned a place via the Wings camp. After earning a place on the roster as a checking line forward he has worked himself onto the 2nd line as well as seeing time on the top line when Homer has been out injured. So my question is can anyone see a potential steal out there for the Wings to snap up? I'm sure some of you will have players in mind, but the ones I mean are guys who have played in the show for a few years but haven't hit their peak or pulled up tree's they where meant to in their draft report. Cleary as a Wing PL 203 43+51=94 +33 Prior PL 329 41+71=112 -3 Lilja as a Wing PL 193 4+27=31 +29 Prior PL 180 8+19= 27 +6 Samy as a Wing PL 175 45+61=106 +40 " " PL 188 19+30= 49 -11. GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 I think we should give Mark Mowers another shot. He was just misunderstood when he played here, and in reality he possesses great talent. Besides, he's Canadian so that means he works hard.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Vaclav Prospal maybe? his name was floating on this board, and altough I still fail to see why Bolts could trade him I'd be glad to see him on this team. dependable if not spectacular. other names... don't know what's their contract status but I'd look among the names like: Bates Battaglia (assuming he's not completely done), Derek Armstrong, Trent Hunter, David Vyborny, Radek Dvorak, Scott Walker, Fernando Pisani, Ales Kotalik... Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 We wont get Bates, he's been on waivers earlier this season, and we didnt snag him. Trent Hunter would be the only 1 id really WANT

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Matt Pettinger, Brad Stuart, Tom Kostopolous, Pascal Dupuis, Scott Nichol. Just a couple guys who could.
skacore 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 I think Ellis will eventually grow on people when given a regular checking line shift he has always started out slow and evnetually became a force (OHL, ECHL, AHL...)
theman19 47 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 speaking of renivation projects,....what the heck have the carolina hurricanes been feeding sergi samsanov? then again i bet i could score goals with rod the bod and ray whitney. Here's hoping we get a cheap addition who becomes a huge force.
Yemack 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 forget about prospal, I want someone who can actually throw his body! How about Winchester? A very cheap player who has size, doesn't backdown, more than able to hold his ground in board play, has a cannon, and not afraid to take the puck and crash the net. He can also develop into Homers role if we ask him to. I think it is a good idea to trade a draft pick for someone like that.
Opie 308 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 I think Pettinger would do well on the 3rd line here, he is a worker and we all know that Drapes is a worker too. But then again he could turn out to be crap, but I wouldn't mind seeing that done.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 We wont get Bates, he's been on waivers earlier this season, and we didnt snag him. Which I'm still infuriated about. Battaglia is not a great player, but he's a hell of a lot more useful as a depth forward than Drake or Ellis. Plus, he doesn't make that money, either. I'd like to see Matt Pettinger come in, since he's a decent checking line forward. He would be an upgrade over who we currently have down there, which is what the Wings need.
