DenJ91 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 I'm aware the chances of Kenny Holland seeing this, is slim and none but it's worth a shot. I would love nothing more than for sergei to retire a red wing, the boo's turn into cheers and have a chance for his number to be retired in detroit. It can happen, let's make this a petition to get him back here! I've read alot of support for him on these forums. Let's rally and beg kenny to bring him back here! Only say yes if you want him back, don't bother arguing about not wanting him here, save that for somewhere else. this is only if you want him back. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's not gonna happen in a million years, unless if he plays into his mid-40s and leads us to a few cups in the process. Then MAYBE he'd get consideration. I wouldn't mind seeing him back though, provided that he comes at a reasonable price.

I don't see why his number should not get retired as he was a very important reason we won the cup back-to-back and was pivitol in bringing the organization to a succesful team. I would dare to say he was almost equally important to the team at that time as Yzerman. Myself, don't really care for him, but that being said I was not as deep a fan back then as I am now. I don't agree he should come back but as we know about Feds... If money talks.

No offense to Feds, I love him and he was a fantastic player for us for a long period of time but IMO you just can't talk about him and Steve freaking Yzerman (or even Lidstrom for that matter) in the same sentence when you consider their Red Wings legacy. But if Feds does come back and plays at a respectable level for another fivish years, who knows... Edited February 9, 2008 by FinWing

Hey now. No need to be so dramatic, don't worry about it. The great thing about public forums is that you can talk about whatever you feel. He said he is just a lurker but out of all the great discussions he could be a part of he jumps in just to say don't talk about this topic anymore. Seems like he is the one moderators need to delete him. LOL. Your pretty new here so just understand that there will always be someone, no matter the topic, that will post just to talk crap about your topic. Ignore them. I am not saying that Yzerman is less important or that Feds has an importance far more then Stevie. Look back to that time and you would have seen as many Federov jersey's then Stevie. If you think that he is not almost as important then your crazy! lol.

Yzerman had played for the Wings SEVEN years by the time Feds even got here. And Stevie played here for another two after Feds left. No doubt Feds was instrumental in our championships but we're talking about retiring a number here. That's quite another thing.

That's quite another thing. yes your very right, Yzerman was a career man here and that is what I think is clouding your sight. Yzerman is the greatest thing the team has ever had, but in those seven years before feds got here how succesful were the wings? Feds was detrimental to the wings success and championships and at that time was equally important as Yzerman or Lids. Slim possibilty the same could have been achieved without him. DenJ91 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 what year did the wings current playoff seasons streak start?? that's right 90-91. who was a rookie that year with 31 goals? that's right. as much as i love yzerman, his team before feds didn't make the playoffs. and 163pts in 162 games in the playofs is among the best in the history of the game. i was gonna let the topic die but apparently people didn't feel it was neccesary. sorry again but might as well let it roll now

Even Stevie can't bring his team championships on his own. Sure Feds came along but so did many other important guys: Vladdie, Lids, Shanny, Lapointe, D-Mac, Larionov... a lot of the guys could probably have their numbers retired in other places but in Detroit the bar has been set pretty high. Lids will have his number in the rafters in due time but he will have played at least another two years for the Wings by then. Fedorov's Wings career and credentials won't even match Nick's unless he does come back and regain his old form for a few years.
DenJ91 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 (edited) feds credentials as a wing doesn't match lidstrom's?? are you crazy, granted they are at different positions but let's get serious now. fedorov is among the top 3-5 spots in nearly every offensive red wing record category + mvp, 2 selke's, 3 cups, 163 playoff pts, 13 seasons as a wing, calder runner up, 4/5 all star selections, he even played defense very well and he was something like a +278 as a wing. one of the best +/- ratings since the stat was created. i think that's nough said btw there are already 2 topics in the poll section about whether his number should be retired. should probably move over there, i just felt compelled to defend this crazyiness. FinWing 26 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Whatever guys, you be Fedorov slappies all you want... I'm just saying a lot has to happen for #91 go up in the rafters in Detroit. And the trophies, well about Lids let's just for example say 5 Norris Trophies (possibly 6-8 by the time he retires) and a Conn Smythe. I wouldn't hold my breath over Fedorov's jersey retirement. Agree to disagree I guess...

Agree to disagree I guess... I am far from a fedorov slappy. I even stated earlier I would rather not see him back. What is going on here is that you are ridiculously short sighted, and narrow minded to boot. Fedorov was the reason for the success of this team but lived in Yzerman's shadow. HELLO. GP G A 1994-1995 Red Wings 17 7 17 1995-1996 Red Wings 19 2 18 1996-1997 Red Wings 20 8 12 1997-1998 Red Wings 22 10 10 1998-1999 Red Wings 10 1 8 1999-2000 Red Wings 9 4 4 2000-2001 Red Wings 6 2 5 2001-2002 Red Wings 23 5 14 Those are just some of his playoff numbers!!! Show someone else on the wings in our era with Playoff stats like that. I am comfortable discussing this here. Again public forum
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 I hope all those who are saying no to feds... are also the same that think the regular season success and playoff shortcomings is just fine and dandy.... 'cause why else would you NOT want the one player who still holds several PLAYOFF records even after being several years displaced from this team?
SweWings 45 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Aside from Yzerman this guy was always my favourite when I was growing up with the Wings. GET IT DONE!! I don't care if he isn't the same, he scores one goal and smiles, raises his hands and I'm gonna go absolutely berserk. Sorry about the man-love over here but a hero is a hero...
